I don't think I've ever watched a 10 minute video on how to grow a flower, but this was so relaxing and grounding. Your voice is very relaxing, you could do guided meditations for sure. Thanks for putting out something so chill during this crazy time 🌿
When we first planted Sweet Peas in the 70s, we waiting and waiting till we could pick a big bouquet. But they just weren't producing well. The few that came would die. Then someone told us to start cutting them, and as soon as we did they bloomed in mass!
You can use diatomaceous earth (food grade, not the stuff for pools) to eliminate ants (and other bugs). It is extremely effective. I used it to remove some giant anthills in my lawn. It is also safe for humans & pets, and can be used in an organic garden.
Thank you so much for all the great videos you produce. Sweet peas are a challenge for me because of chipmunks. But I'm going to try again this year. Here's to all the people who are not morning people, who don't do everything right, but who can still grow beautiful flowers like you and your partner do. They're absolutely gorgeous! These videos give me hope
With same species flower arranging, sometimes just pulling the stems all together and casually putting them in the vase works best. It’s when you start pulling them out or being too too careful with their arrangement that it becomes less pleasing to the eye. Love your sweet peas!
Love how this video is done, straightforward information, well paced narration, really chill music...relaxing overall, very enjoyable to watch and I learned a lot most of all!
I love sweet peas and wanted some tips for a bounty as there fragrant is everything. Your vid was so relaxing, and your voice comforting, took all the stress away...many thanks
I've only just discovered your videos today, and now that I know you're in the Austin area I'm even MORE impressed you've grown Sweet Peas! I always thought it would be too warm, even in the "cold" season! I live in the Austin area too, but have never taken the time, or made the effort to grow the beautiful Sweet Pea! I'll have to give it a try! Yours have turned out MAGNIFICENT!!! Here's a good tip for ants: Beneficial Nematoads Sounds like a weird thing, and maybe it is! But they are 100% organic. They are a natural microscopic organism that lives in the soil. So tiny you'll never see them! They feed off all the things we humans do not like to live with. Things like fleas, ants, beetles, and lots of other things too. You can buy the B.Nematoads at just about any reputable garden nursery. The way you "apply" them is with a measured hose end sprayer, or a pump sprayer. It's best to do it during rainy times, but any other time, just keep the ground moist until they have time to acclimate under ground. Anyway, they work really, really well!! I hope you give them a try ♡ Oh, and ang ants above ground I always dust them with Diatamacious Earth, otherwise known at D.E., and it's also organic, so no worries for veggie pkants, or pets! Hope this helps ! Thank You for the great vids!! ♡♡♡
Brings me back to my childhood as my grandma cultivated "pois de santeur" scented peas... as we call it in France , for my mom , they were , oops are ... her favorites , the scent is heavenly , my grandma grew for me , my favorite the Forget me not , soft light blue and the pink variety also , the least pretentious , adorable little flower , my fav to this day . Remember Forget me not , they add a sweet touch to a garden and create long lasting memories ...
Scented peas! I LOVE THAT!!! I’m in Louisiana and just haven’t had much luck with my “scented peas”. Maybe I need to try and plant them during the fall so that they will have time to do their thing before the heat comes. I’ve always had high success with germination but when it comes to flowering they just don’t perform like I want them to. Hopefully I’ll have better luck starting them earlier.
@@erinstaley2885 Some people in the comments mentioned that you have to cut the few you have, before you get more. As per one person, a lot more! Perhaps that might help? I've never had much luck with them previously, but am hopeful that this year I will. Good Luck!
Best thing of my life actually is spring coming ( Patagonia) and being rewarded with sun and a garden to go and work after so much loneliness during this terrible pandemia ...
I’m a romantic senior and consummated sweet peas lover, and yes, growing them just helps remembering that they are here with us for our joy and pleasure. Lovely arrangement - your creative vase and dainty flowers are a joy to look at. Thank you for sharing.
You know what, I felt asleep from listening to your videos. Thanks! I have been waking up at 3 in the morning lately. Tonight I will try your video as soon as I wake up in the night. Nice, calming voice.
Your video inspired me to start growing sweet peas from seed this late this spring! It’s now summer (I’m in Central Coast of CA) and now they are about 3 feet tall! I can’t wait until they bloom! 🥰🥰🥰
New subscriber here. Love your chill mood. You remind me of my brother. I am growing sweet peas for the first time this year and I know I am already making mistakes. I soaked the seeds for 24 hours per the package instructions and planted them at the base of a trellis. Very soon, I saw some critter had dug up at least a some of them. I also fear that if I do get lucky enough for them to take off, they will overrun this poor little rinky-dink trellis that already has a clematis on one side. I have a bad habit of biting off more than I can chew with seeds and plants in my enthusiasm to plant everything. I need to just slow down and take things one project at a time. Your careful attention to this project is inspiring. Also, I busted out laughing when you initially jammed all the sweet peas in the vase together! Looking forward to watching more of your content.
To get rid of ants sprinkle corn meal. They will take it back to their home. They can eat it but not pass it and they will die. Works for all types of ants. Doesn't hurt other creatures. Hope this helps. Love your videos!
Oh, best solution so far! I came here for Sweet Peas, but we have an Ant infestation, so this is very helpful. I was concerned about putting down something that might not be safe for our pets. Thank you Salty Chef!
Very nice video. I tried growing them last year in a pot and they grew but didn't flower much. Yours turned out great. I actually really liked how they looked grouped separately in the three glass vases. But I do also really like that pale pink glossy vase.
This was your best video to date. I was quite impressed with the production value-the voice over, the change of focus, the background music, the speed ups . . . all of it was well done. I realize these videos take much more time to produce than the talking head variety, so I certainly appreciate the quality and work.
Thanks for your video! I live in zone 5 and I just planted a variety of sweet pea seeds. I’ve never grown these flowers and your video helped know what to expect should they grow!!
The editing is great! This is my first year growing sweet peas from seed using Botanical Interests and Burpee seeds. Botanical Interests is my favorite, too! ☺️ I picked the high scent sweet pea, hope they do well.
3:51 - Netting was a good idea. Deer fencing and snow fencing also work. River rocks are an effective and aesthetically pleasing solution. Personally, I use hardware cloth under mulch to deter the digging critters.
This video is still relevant a year from the date you posted it. I love sweet peas. Just planted the “Old Spice Blend” and can’t wait to experience them. Thank you for making this video. ✌🏼💕💐
I can (almost 😉) smell them from here in Vermont. And, I agree with with the person who commented about this video being even more “peaceful” because you have a very soothing voice. Would be a good “guided meditation “ voice to listen to👌. I’ve not added a layer of mulch to my sweet peas in the past, however I’ll being doing that today after watching this & seeing yours. Thanks for a lovely video 🌱
We love your informative and beautiful videos! This one is particularly relaxing to watch, not to mention you've got a great sense of humor. Thanks for using our seeds and we hope you continue to enjoy them!
Wonderful video. I just bought my first pack of seeds of the spring, sweet peas, the mix. Thanks for taking such care with your camera shots and angles. I know it is harder than it looks, and time consuming, but the fact that you LIKE making these videos shows through.
Hah. I just watched this video for the second time while I was sending reiki energy to a friend who needs it. Thank you for these flowers, colors and shapes and calming narration.
Just found your channel. Nice video! I couldn’t agree more about Botanical Interests seeds. Not only are the packets really pretty, but they give you a TON of info. And the seeds themselves are top quality. I always get really good germination.
Unfortunately I am deaf so could not hear your voice, but those lovely Sweet Pea you grew, the colours were amazing . I used to make a wigwam with canes when I lived in England, a very small garden I had. I would grow also feather and fan as my dear mother called it. It looks lovely in a vase with Sweet Pea. Love your video and take care.
This is a super helpful video with tons of valuable information for this noob. I'm going to attempt to grow sweet peas. I'm not a green thumb but my mom was and this was her favorite plant. I figured trying to grow her favorite plant would be a nice tribute. I saved this video so I can watch it again at different points of my liddo sweet peas lives. I really hope I can keep them alive! Wish me luck
It's hard to describe how outrageously fragrant those pale-lavender edged HIGH-SCENT SPs are! Over the moon, and such a delicate coloration. I wish everyone planted them! (was a BI rep west coast)
Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is a great, non-toxic way for killing ants, and all sorts of other garden pests, too! I definitely suggest searching for it online and looking into ALL it's many uses (I use mine sprinkled around the perimeter of my garage for spiders and ants), but one definitely needs to make sure they purchase FOOD GRADE DE in order for it to be non-toxic/safe for pets. Another GREAT thing about DE is that it's cheap, and doesn't expire. I bought a ginormous bag of DE at Tractor Supply for only like $10 back in 2016, and I'm still using it! This comes in handy, as you DO need to reapply DE after it rains or if washed away from watering plants, as it's only effective as long as it remains dry. Also, one should wear a mask when dusting with it, as it's a SUPER FINE powder that you don't want to inhale. You can make your own sifter out of a plastic container with a lid that you can poke holes in, or, what I do that I've found is really useful as a duster, is using an old sports squeeze bottle that has one of those twisty tops. The one I use that I've found is perfect for me, is an old Gatorade Perform 02 Thirst Quencher bottle (with the twisty orange bottle cap). Hope this helps someone! (:
Beautiful blooms! Nice video! 😊 Sweet peas remind me of my mum. My dad used to plant lots of seeds directly into the ground in March, and then Mum would pick large bunches every day in October, which is the middle month of spring here in Victoria, Oz.
For those hard seeds (they are very similar to Okra seeds), cover the inside of a coffee can with 180 grit sandpaper. Place seeds in it, attach the lid, and swirl around for a minute. This scuffs the hard coating. Next, soak the seeds in 3% hydrogen Peroxide for about 20 min. Rinse seeds with water. You may soak the seeds in plain water if desired. Plant the seeds. Scuffing makes it easier to get water into the seed and the seed to sprout. Hydrogen Peroxide kills off any external diseases and oxygenates the seeds at the same time.
Lovely, thank you! Was the "high scent" variety noticeably more fragrant? I am growing some for the first time this year, and I am very excited about them.
lovely video! I'm growing 2 plants..thanks for showing the difference between in ground and pot..will definitely put in my raised bed. great voice over!
Thank you so much!! I have been trying to grow sweet peas and have been unsuccessful no matter what. I find most videos confusing or contradictory. ANYWAY your video was perfect from beginning to end! I will give it another shot…thanks again!😊
I simply love Sweet Peas. My favourite fragrance. How did your High Scent work out for you? I’ve very successfully grown Royal Blend before but was underwhelmed by scent and only got a couple of reds. This year, it’s my first time growing high scent varietal. Am in Zone 4b (not expecting blooms for a while).
I'm currently trying to grow this in the tropics. I planted 'Cupani' because it is said to be one of the most heat tolerant varieties. They're currently a feet tall, and look quite healthy too. Still not sure how far they can go. Hopefully they will mature and fkower.
I have always had sweet peas in spring and summer. Grandma, mum, sisters and me all grow them. In Australia the sweet pea seeds must be sown into the prepared ground by 15 March,.St Patrick day to have a good crop in Spring. No later than that. Its the best smell.
If you buy seeds in different varieties and separate colours you might have a tad better control over them. And if you pinch out the growing point over two leaves you get sideshoots that won't go 'blind' so quick as a main stem does. Sweet peas in pots are usually not so good idea unless it it a variety like Supersnoop or one of the newer dwarf varieties. Sowing in september and keep them in a long tube type pot and pinching perhaps two times give loads of blooms... and long flower stalks are produced by removing tendrils and flower stems that has fewer than 4 buds.... but then we are talking showing of sweet peas and competing for the best vase...
Thanks for sharing these awesome sweet peas !!! They smell amazing, drop of lemonade in a vase helps them last longer . Tc stay safe. Neem oil fertilizers or vinegar , lemon peel or zest will keep cat's off your garden plants ,,special pale lavender stupendous beauty. Kind regards Swift from England .Keep smiling . :--)
Lovely. Maybe I’ll try some this year. It’s been cold so hopefully it’s not too late here on the Central Coast in CA. A very beautiful video. So glad for your instructions.
Yay, zone 8b! I garden on slope too, and I am NOT a morning person! Haha! SO weird that we are the same zone, even though I am way up in the Seattle WA area! I used cinnamon for the ants that were farming aphids on my honeysuckle, and for the ants that seemed to think it was great to congregate right outside my garage door. (It kept them out!) PLUS it smells good! I would guess that cats might not like it either, and it's not toxic. You can even buy big containers that are organic, and pretty affordable. I replaced the cinnamon fairly regularly after it rained, and actually, my honeysuckle seemed happier this year. Maybe the cinnamon broke down to fertilize it too?
Hi love this video I’ve tried growing them with no luck. Can’t wait to start this method out . Can you do a video on nasturtiums I have not been able to get those to grow from seed

Very impressed the way explain....tell me one thing , india waht time to snowing pl tel me..
Haha it didn't feel like 10 minutes 😅
It's kinda coincidence. Just saw this video and was about to comment the exam same words you've mentioned. I feel the same way in 2021 lol 💖 Thanks!
At the beginning wasn’t sure about sweet pea, but oh this s what I need in this stressful time. N your voice so soothing too! Thanks man👍
I really love that you made a video from start to finish rather than a short video of each stage

Highly recommend. Powder best when dry.
These have been a favorite cut flower for every Church Tea that ever there was. At least when people used to garden.
They're stunning in person!

I’m also in Texas. Was thinking about starting them in spring but after reading was worried about the heat. Thinking of giving it a go this fall. 🙌🏽
The burgundy/ maroon ones are soo beautiful 😍
This video is still relevant a year from the date you posted it. I love sweet peas. Just planted the “Old Spice Blend” and can’t wait to experience them. Thank you for making this video. ✌🏼💕💐
How did the “Old Spice Blend” work out? Did they have a particularly different smell? I’m considering which to start for the first time.
I actually have some sweet pea seeds that I purchased last year and mever planted. Now I have the motivation. 🙂 Your arrangement looks gorgeous.

This is my first year growing these, pretty excited. I wish I started more!
Pam's Pretty Plants I think just a single plant can give you tons of flowers!
They’re gorgeous! Where I live in UK, they grow as wild weeds on dry land. Thanks for sharing.

Remedy for Ants: Used coffee grounds to get rid of ants it worked in my succulent garden 😊
agreed
I have great success with diatomaceous earth. I knock out almost ever with it, dust my dogs for fleas, and put it in our smoothies!
Omg. I need these! I always thought of them as NOT Texas flowers, but. I have some seeds and am starting them ASAP.
Nice video where to get the seeds of sweet peas
I didn't expect to like these cut flowers as much as I do! Wonderful video!
Hermila Durán Thank you so much!
I’m growing sweet peas indoors from seed currently! Wow, Yours are Beautiful! I’m looking forward transplanting mine outdoors. 🙂
Unfortunately I am deaf so could not hear your voice, but those lovely Sweet Pea you grew, the colours were amazing . Love your video and take care.
I love this. I think these would be perfect for a casual wedding. Thank you for the delightful video.
Oh they're such a happy plant! I've loved them since childhood. The smell is so delicious!! 👌❤️❤️

Mayfield Manor Well said!
Sweet Peas are my favorite flower, I plant them every year. Your video is amazing and inspiring Thank-you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your kind words!
Beautiful sweet peas 🌸I’m growing lots this year every variety
Just subscribed and was totally absorbed in the process. Thanks for sharing this. I’ve planted some sweet peas and can’t wait for the final reveal..

Lovely, thank you! Was the "high scent" variety noticeably more fragrant? I am growing some for the first time this year, and I am very excited about them.
I have the same question! I didn't see any white flowers so not sure???
Loved this video! Gorgeous flowers😍🙏❤🌸🌼🌺🏵
Gorgeous blooms.
I absolutely loved this video! Your voice is so soothing and you are so knowledgeable and that in itself is quite refreshing
lovely video! I'm growing 2 plants..thanks for showing the difference between in ground and pot..will definitely put in my raised bed. great voice over!

My mom calls me Sweetpea and I’m trying to learn how to grow them and your tutorial and I’m soooo excited :)
When my life fades and I enter into the next expression, I imagine it to smell like sweet peas.
Love the music and your garden techniques. New subbie 😌😌🙏🙏
Loved the editing on this! And the sweet peas of course ;)
Krystal Schmidt Thanks Krystal!! Xoxo
Thank you so much!! I have been trying to grow sweet peas and have been unsuccessful no matter what. I find most videos confusing or contradictory. ANYWAY your video was perfect from beginning to end! I will give it another shot…thanks again!😊

I got a pack of these seeds today. Has anyone used these flowers to infuse in oil?
Very relaxing and fun. I love sweet peas but haven’t been able to grow any. These are exquisite and I’m ver envious. Thanks for sharing!
I miss these videos. I wish you'd make more!
I'm currently trying to grow this in the tropics. I planted 'Cupani' because it is said to be one of the most heat tolerant varieties. They're currently a feet tall, and look quite healthy too. Still not sure how far they can go. Hopefully they will mature and fkower.
How is it going?
Ok, so I have to grow them now!
Its my first time.growing them, so we'll see how well they do. I loved your video. Thank you
Great colors but the purple really sets it all off. Nice job !
So beautiful and yes very very relaxing to watch! Thank you for sharing 🥰
Beautiful, I love sweet peas!
Oh wow, you made the vase?! It is so pretty and was perfect for the color scheme of the lovely sweet peas. I love it.
My favorites! Sweet peas smell wonderful!
Wonderful feedback, thx!

I love the burgundy sweet pea,,were they fragrant? I love growing them in amongst cottage garden annuals and perennials
Louise Ahmed Yes! They were all very fragrant.
Lovely. Maybe I’ll try some this year. It’s been cold so hopefully it’s not too late here on the Central Coast in CA.
A very beautiful video. So glad for your instructions.
Thank you the arrangement was particularly helpful!
💚
Those colors were beautiful 😍💕
Thanks for the video! Learned a lot! I plan on using a birdcage as my “ trellis” for my sweet peas which are still seedlings 🌱
Love the arrangement you did!!!really tasteful!
Peas and relaxation. I see what you did there~
greetings from Arkansas. Thank you for the information. We are planning on growing these this year.
Hi love this video I’ve tried growing them with no luck. Can’t wait to start this method out . Can you do a video on nasturtiums I have not been able to get those to grow from seed
