      Wondering what is the max weight you can carry in the new pack before it becomes uncomfortable?

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jenadeh This is the Max Carry Capacity I mention in the video. Max Carry Capacity for the new Mariposa 60 is 35 lbs, but for comfort, Gossamer Gear recommends carrying no more than 30 lbs. Of course, it's all personal preference and what feels good on your body. Carrying less weight is always going to feel better.

    It's so easy to pimp for GG packs. I had the (still have) the Mariposa and loved every feature - the long pocket and the sit pad are golden. Always priced right. I went down to the frameless G4-20 because my gear got so much better. I'm now on the lookout for a new pack....as my two season old G4-20 was lost two weeks ago in the high sierra. Had a medicine problem (a crime by the government actually) with my very needed adhd meds. My head was not clear at all, I set it down for lunch walked less than 50 feet away to get a location view (off trail) and with zero working memory turned around and could not find my way back to it. IMPOSSIBLE! I verbalized several times how screwed I was at 13000 ft alone off trail and no gear. I climbed this section up and down till I could do it no more. Froze for 18 hours each night (sun wouldn't reach me till after noon) until giving up and saving my own ass thanks to the angel I was hoping for right at the ranger cabin I was going to break into on the JMT. The folks out there are unbelievably awesome. It changed me permanently the love and care I was shown by strangers.
    But now I'm here...I would have put that gear up against any gear assembled. It was perfect and now its gone. 3000.00 worth, wallet, keys, passport, EE 10 degree quilt, used once Xlite pad. 13 years compiling it. I'm retired and won't be able to replace it all.
    As if I could do it, the first place I can't get away from is Gossamer Gear packs. Nothing really compares.
    With the miles you put in, I'm sure you can relate. Thank you for letting me cry on your shoulder
    Greg
    PS to everyone with an emergency beacon a space blanket and a lighter - theres a hundred ways to get separated from your gear - get those item out of and off your pack and on your person or in a (god forbid) fanny pack that never leaves your body. I would have fought a bear bare handed just for its body warmth. It would have been nicer to have that blanket or a fire than just brushing some dirt onto your bare legs. Its a tiny thing that could save your life. I didn't think I'd survive one night much less two. There was seriously no 3rd night.

    Love my Mariposa 60 and have hundreds of comfortable happy miles with it. The Airflow sitLight Camp Seat they sell on their site fits in the Mariposa 60 from three years ago? Their website said it is for the new packs, but not sure if all Mariposas are considered new. I am not sure from this video if you used it in your older packs or only the new one.

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great question! There are now TWO different Air Flow SitLight Camp Seats to chose from on the Gossamer Gear website:
      Air Flow SitLight Camp Seat (Previous Model) bit.ly/3xc4KvX
      Air Flow SitLight Camp Seat (to use with new Signature PVT packs) bit.ly/3PFbE34
      As you can see, there's a slight shape difference between each of these camp seats so you'll want to make sure you get the right one for the pack you have. If you have the older version of the Mariposa 60, you'll want to choose the previous model camp seat, noted above. Hope this helps!

    Congratulations on the new partnership!
    I currently hiking with the old Mariposa. I don't use a hydration bladder, but used that inner pocket for my sleeping pad. By folding my sleeping pad to fit in that pocket, it provided more padding between my bear canister and my back as well as providing more vertical support. The large size of the bladder pocket is something I used to compliment GG on having since some bladder pocket are tall and thin. So I am very disappointed to hear @gossamergear removed that pocket. Honestly, that is a huge non-selling point that outweighs some of the upgrades.
    @TheHungryHiker can you speak about the width of the new shoulder straps vs the old shoulder straps? I always get a little shoulder pain because of how wide set the old version straps are (I have heard grown men say the same thing). Are the newly designed straps closer? Does the S-curve help? Also, can you talk about the difference between the straight and the curved hip belts?

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks and sorry to hear that the removal of the internal hydration pocket disappointed you with the new Mariposa 60. I asked Gossamer Gear why they decided to remove this pocket from the new version and they said based on feedback they’ve received over the years from users, this is the one pocket users used the least so they removed it to save weight in the new version.
      If you’re looking for a place to store a sleeping pad in the new Mariposa 60 (and even in the previous version Mariposa) and still want that extra support between a hard-sided bear canister and your back, you can always try removing the SitPad from the back of the pack and the store the sleeping pad in there. I know a few people who have tried this option on their Mariposa packs and really like it.
      As for the S-Curve Harness, yes there’s a noticeable shape difference when compared to the previous version and it feels a lot different when I wear it too.. With the new S-Curve Harness, I’ve noticed a much more comfortable, balanced and contoured fit in the neck and upper chest area. Thanks to both the S-Curve Harness AND the new and improved load lifters, these two huge updates have already made carrying a heavier load of gear in this pack much more comfortable than the previous Mariposa.
      Same idea with the new Signature PVT Frame + Belt. This whole system is designed to move with your body and natural gait, overall improving the comfort level of this new pack, especially when it's fully loaded with gear, food and water. The difference between the Straight Hipbelt and the Curved Hipbelt is how the belts are shaped. Since we aren't all just one-size-fits-all or fit into the standard small , medium or large sizes, the shape of these new belts now opens up more comfortable and customizable fit options for a variety of body sizes and types.

      @@TheHungryHiker thank you so much for taking the time to type such a detailed response! I never thought about putting the sleeping pad behind the sit pad. I might try that on my current pack and see how it works, that might be a great solution. Thank you! I understand that inner pocket not being used as much since I see less and less people using bladders these days. I would not want to give up my sit pad (that thing is great) so maybe if I fold my pad a certain way, I can fit both there.
      Thank you for explaining the new straps. That is fantastic news! Well, maybe not for my wallet, hehe.
