You are right
First, it is a serious issue. Comments like yours make me wonder about the level of your intelligence and/or compassion. Let me give you a little insight that apparently you haven’t thought about. First if you have become injured, or have a disease of the heart, lungs, etc or have lost use of part or all all of your lower limbs and you can’t access the upper levels of a beloved home...then having a way to do so -even slowly - is preferable to not being able to do so at all. It is obvious some of the comments are made by those either very young, or someone who hasn’t seen much in the way of difficulty in life, hasn’t been a caregiver to those who are elderly, sick, or mobility challenged, nor experienced severe chronic pain. There are many reasons that people can’t or might not want to move to another home and this is better than facing that endeavor. Even in a public building such as an apartment, that must become handicap accessible this could be a good choice if they only have an occasional handicap visitor. In addition, stair chairs are very expensive but in a public building they wouldn’t be able to install on stairs due to children messing with it or being in the way (even folded up) to those younger or more mobile. A lift such as this could be easily set off in an alcove with a key lock. Elevators are very very expensive, require quite a bit of engineering, demolition for an existing building, and must have monthly inspection - would be out of the question for most people in their homes or in a small facility. Now to the comments “when you are too lazy”, “stairs are faster”, “these are meant for lazy people”, “what’s the problem with stairs”, “why the hell do we even need it, we can use the stairs” and the other stupid comments. The designer/engineer of the product is showing it as is usually done - I’m sure they thought most people were smart enough to understand that it’s best purpose is for those who have difficulty with stairs. If you have severe heart or lung problems and can barely get your breath, something like this is necessary over climbing stairs and is certainly safer than getting dizzy due to lack of oxygen and falling down. And as mentioned above, if disease, genetics, injury have caused loss of part or all of your legs or even if blind - again this is a crucial device to allow folks to remain in a home they love. It can be good for a caregiver with an upstairs patient who must make 100s of stair trips a day and who has a heavy load of clothes, a piece of medical equipment, or anything. Even someone who can still do stairs (though slowly and just a few times a day) using it for heavy objects could be quite helpful and allow someone to remain in their home and self sufficient. For someone affected by such ailments or injuries - to be then faced with the trauma of losing their home and possessions, plus the stress of selling and packing up and then settling in another location can push someone’s health and purpose over the edge. It is very difficult to leave a home you grew up in, have raised your children in, and may want to leave to family when you are gone. Something as simple as this could be the difference in someone living in safety, comfort and be self-sufficient for years. There are many ways to solve the issue of mobility, this is just one. And I might mention, sometimes local laws have an impact on how fast a device is allowed to travel. In addition, there are situations, where someone wants to expand to an upstairs level, that there isn’t room for a staircase, that this could be useful. Please consider that individuals who are looking at these devices may already feel bad enough that they have to use them, that they can’t just bound up the steps as maybe they once did - and then you folks make them feel worse. I hope those who see this will think of others before they post such uncaring, insensible comments.
