- A Pokemon Base Set Booster Box is opened in this video. This is the 3rd booster box I've opened in my 16 Pokemon Booster Box opening series for the summer of 2014. This box I bought from Blowout Cards for $619.95. This is part 1. This box is easily the most expensive box I've ever purchased.

PrimetimePokemon I got one for christmas when I was 7. Blastoise was my best pull.. memories! Seems like this was actually pretty cheap though haha. I know it's 2015 now but on eBay one of these is £1500.
The prices have skyrocketed in just over a year.

It's awesome watching you open this, you even seem excited when you pull rare trainers, I don't blame you though, must feel so great opening a fresh box of 36 Base Set booster packs. :)
This box is now $50K - 100K. The 1999 Charizard is now $330,000 1st Edition and psa gem mint 10. 1 Pack is actually $5K to 10K.

Ah man i remember watching you open this when i was a kid and couldn't even afford to buy packs for retail in stores. It's quite sad to see how the card game has just become a hypebeast thing nowadays with guys like logan paul ballooning the prices and making it impossible to even get normal sets anymore

Yeah a few years back when I was younger my babysitter's neighbor gave me his whole Pokemon card collection and the majority was 1st edition shadowless which I still have to this day hehe
i cant even look at ratatta now that pokemon go realeased.
I know what you mean, I'm level 22 right now, and have caught tons of Ratatta.
+PrimetimePokemon i evolved to raticate but stopped getting them after that.
For leveling up I would catch as many Ratatta as possible, turn on the lucky egg, evolve all of the Ratatta, and then transfer them.

I do this with pidgey, weedle and caterpie. I name them "Z" when I catch them so I can organize them be name later for quick subsequent evolutions.

Now THOSE are original booster packs...I watched some other video where he claimed his boosters were the originals but he had some kind of haggard team rocket packs, gym packs and shit...Back in the day those cards were worth nothing in a trade setting. I had no idea where people even got them because being so young I was only allowed to go as far as my local card shop on my bike and he didnt stock that junk. I always always always bought these and you were the shit if you pulled a Charizard, of course. None of that 3 ways to get a card crap. It was holo or not. I really need to go look for my trapper keeper man...i had a ton of cards in there and i am pretty sure i finished the original 151 set before I moved on to other things like vagina and cars.
Those two sets you were talking about were one of the original sets base set and those two are from generation 1 of the card set

Yeah well, everyone says that they would wish for world peace if a genie appeared, but we all know everyone is going to wish for more wishes. Treat yourself first, then when you have amassed enough to the point of satisfaction, then give the rest of what you have to the poor. You'll also get tax writeoffs for it.
Oh God, the memories of watching these types of channels when I was younger. I'm feeling a lot of nostalgic feelings since you were one of my favorite channels back then. I just rediscovered this channel after at least 5-7 years. Thanks for the great memories. I hope younger Pokemon fans can enjoy this as much as I did. :)
Edit: UnlistedLeaf was also a channel I enjoyed. I remember you sent a comment to this channel (Primetime) and he responded. It was an amazing feeling, I even planned on sending fanmail to UnlistedLeaf,but I never got around to it. These types of videos are amazing and I love that you're still doing it. The first pack you opened gave me shivers. It is the exact same pack I opened in the year 2000 when I was only 8 years old or something. The same order of pokemon cards even! I remember buying it from a stand in florida and the stand was selling single cards. I was still fresh to pokemon but I remember me and my brother agreeing on buying a pack and if we both dont get what we want we'll buy the singles! I wanted a blastoise and my brother wanted gastly! We pulled both from the pack and were really happy! While I was watching this video I knew you would get a blastoise because every time you changed a card I remember holding in my hand and fliping through. Amazing!

The original base set of Pokémon cards was the best. Back when finding a rare holographic actually meant something and was very hard. Now a days booster packs come with 3 holographics, 1 reverse holographic and freaking all rare cards, and if you didn't get a card you wanted, just get on ebay and buy it for 5 dollars. Back when this set was around, did you want a holographic Blastoise? Well you better have known somebody who owned one and was willing to trade it to you.
You get one rare and one reverse holo, no guaranteed halo, cards that are rare cost a ton still
+Cameron Lynch I was over exaggerating and I no longer collect cards but once every blue moon (once a year or once every 2 years), I'll a couple of boosters and I legit get 1 holo and 1 reverse holo in every single pack.
You're guaranteed 1 star card, it was just a matter of getting the one you hoped for. I was fortunate to pull holographics from a lot of my packs. I used to say "I could feel the holo" when I'd pick them out xD I have no knowledge of how pack content works after Neo Revelation. If what you're saying is true about getting multiple holographics and stuff then wow lol.... I still love pokemon, but I would not go back into it again since basically all my cards are not tournament legal in any format. I played Yu-Gi-Oh in 2004-2005. It wasn't until last year that I took Magic The Gathering seriously, I play an awesome format that doesn't rotate cards out. But yeah it is nice to just buy the cards you need online, it's more cost efficient.

My eyes were watering nostalgia tears while watching this video. I love watching somebody opening up an old booster box.
Although, I did not originally grow up with Pokemon. I grew up with Classic Spongebob and the legendary Rock group Queen.
Eventually these booster packs are all going to be extinct, including the 1999 fossil sets. I'm keeping all mine sealed just to keep that nostalgia alive.
I remember my dad used to work across the street from Wizards, so he'd go in once every couple weeks to get the packs before they got shipped out for testing or into stores...if only I knew how valuable those packs were back then.
Yeah, but I opened all of them. I was in Kintergarten at the time. I remember pulling a Charizard EX from one of the later 2004 packs that they released along with Sapphire...I also remember it being stolen and lost on my elementary school playground. That was like ten years ago, though, back in preschool/elementary. My point is: hit amazon or ebay, don't worry about the price, buy some sealed packs, and just keep em mint and don't open them. In 10 years, I guarantee you the few remaining boosters are gonna go for 100+ bucks each.

Just noticed that this base set booster box is a special variant! It’s the U.S 4th print where all cards except the holo foils have the 1999-2000 date. You can also tell by the curved wizard logo on the booster pack.
Always loved the Poliwrath and Alakazam holos. Mine from 20 years ago are so scratched up, but I still love em.
I just want to say that I enjoy how calm his voice is and the fact that he remains calm throughout the video. I feel like this is the kind of unboxing video where you can kick back and enjoy the nostalgic artwork. It's like a bunch of gentlemen around a big fireplace in comfy armchairs with big cigars leisurely discussing pokemon. Keep up the great work PTP.

I remember when I was a kid (roughly 7 years old), my aunt got me and my cousin a booster of a very old set. Unfortunately I didn't get nice pulls but my cousin got a Zapdos and we freaked out. Very nice video

To think getting one of these would set you back $20k nowadays. Insane times. Awesome pulls! I’m not much of a vintage guy myself since HGSS era is when I got into the cards, but man I can just feel the history and nostalgia when I see these old sets unboxed
It is certainly crazy how drastically prices have increased on boxes like these. Unfortunately that has made me unable to afford vintage products, but at least in the past I could open them on my channel and have those memories.

What were the only holos from the base set that could be found in booster packs? besides machamp, I recently found out ninetales, hitmonchan, mewtwo, & gyarados could be found in theme decks. So in that regard, what would you consider the order of rarity of the 16 holo base set cards? Thanks!
Machamp couldn't be found in booster packs, the Pokemon you pointed out you could get in theme decks too, all other holo cards were only available in the packs.

There was this tip online that I read when I was a kid that said if you open the charizard booster that is the darkest color (the packaging would vary from light orange charizard, to dark orange) would give you an actual charizard card. I went into my local shop and asked if I could search through their charizard packs and pick the one I wanted.. and they let me.
On my ride home, I opened them. And bam. Charizard. Its a memory from my childhood that I will never forget.
Probably more of a coincidence than an actually way to get a Charizard, but congrats either way!

Ahhhh. I think your channel was one of the first ones that got me into youtube! I was originally a pokemon back opening channel like yours, that didn't get very far. Now I'm more into the youtube Gaming scene with Markiplier, Game Grumps, and Tech reviews like MKBHD and Unbox Therapy. But it is so nice to come back to what got me into youtube in the first place.
