I decided to grab a copy of Strange Days off of eBay. I was surprised at myself for not watching it sooner. One of Angela Bassett’s best performances, and a visual roller coaster.
“What one man can do another man can do,” Hopkins, from The Edge. I saw almost all of these, when they were new, and their lack of popularity informed my opinion on the ineptitude of everyday audiences.
All of these movies were absolutely great, and I have most of them in my collection. Some of them I can understand why they bombed, but I'm glad to see that some of them also recouped it later on and became classics. The Shadow, and the Phantom were both excellent movies but I can understand that they appeal to and much older audience who remembered the characters from their childhood, whereas the younger Generations would just be perplexed. I would have loved to see a franchise of both of those characters, but it just is not to be.
The thing that killed Last Action Hero was that it was pushed as yet another Arnold action movie. If they had pushed it as the satire of action movies that it was, it likely would've done much better.
OMG, awesome list. I saw literally every one of these with the exception of 2, and most of them in the theater. And after decades of trying to tell people how great they are people are finally catching on. And if anyone was wondering, the Cutthroat Island budget adjusted for inflation was $184 million... I didn't really enjoy that one to be honest.
I always felt that the pre=emptive attacks on "Showgirls" were less about Paul Verhoeven or Elizabeth Berkeley and the rest of the cast, and were more to do with Joe Eszterhas' massive payday and what he was "really worth."
Last Action Hero's fantasy element is actually the reverse of Purple Rose of Cairo. Last Action Hero, a movie fan is transported into a movie and Purple Rose of Cairo, a movie character is transported to the real world.
Jesus Henry Christ I went to the movies alot in the 90’s, I saw almost all of these in the theater!! Starship Troopers was a midnight show and it’s still one of my most fun movie experiences.
23:19 I went into True Romance totally blind. A little ways in, I had the very distinct thought that it seemed very similar to Natural Born Killers.. Even though I had only seen a couple of scenes from NBK, I could see similarities. I had to pause True Romance to look it up on IMDB and discovered they were both written by Tarantino, and his only scripts not to be directed by him. Wild.
I watched Galaxy Quest. Didnt like it. Bad. I dont like Showgirls. Fight Club is great movie,I remember Hocus Pocus a little, when little,Phantom is great movie,Strange Days too,Shadow great too,Last Action Hero is great movie. You can enjoy it no problem. Long Kiss Gioodnight great too. I love it. It has everything. Simply great. Watched to 23:20. Great list
I still despise Starship Troopers. It totally misrepresented a great book. And I didn't like the director "satirising American filmmaking" If we ridiculed the Dutch would he appreciate it?
Another big hit “Fight Club” took was when Rosie O’Donnell spoiled the film’s third-act twist and urge her viewers not to see it on her talk show. She said this I believe on the Friday the movie was released back in October of 1999.
Hocus Pocus might have been okay (in my humble opinion) if the three witches hadn’t chewed up the scenery. The plot, dialog were there, but the charicaturish performances by the three mains pushed too far rendering a cringe-worthy movie. Good for kids but yuck for adults. Most of these movies are still on my “gonna skip” list, Galaxy Quest is firebmver on my monthly rotation of favorites.
Not a bad list for sure, most of these movies are true classics, especially the sci-fi flicks (Dark City, Event Horizon are excellent) and film noir, not to mention True Romance, I had no idea these movies made so little or no money.
The only 90's movies on this list that I enjoy are the following: Galaxy Quest, The Iron Giant, The Rocketeer, The Phantom, The Shadow, Last Action Hero, The long kiss goodnight, & Cool World.
What is your favorite '90s movie?
johnny mnemonic, hackers, I still watch these movies multiple times every year.
The Shawshank Redemption. Great movie.
Overrated
@LakeLyfe315 I didn't think you were alive, Brooks..lol 😂
Galaxy Quest is an absolute gem.
This is basically list of all of my favorite movies.
I decided to grab a copy of Strange Days off of eBay. I was surprised at myself for not watching it sooner. One of Angela Bassett’s best performances, and a visual roller coaster.
Galaxy Quest was wonderful
I’ve literally seen all of these 😂
Last action hero flop is crazy.. putting robert Patrick in the movie was a total genius move and everytime I see that scene it gives me goosebumps
Ed Wood, Strange Days and Army of Darkness (along with the first two Evil Dead films) are among my Top 💯 Favorite Films of All Time!
“What one man can do another man can do,” Hopkins, from The Edge. I saw almost all of these, when they were new, and their lack of popularity informed my opinion on the ineptitude of everyday audiences.
It connected with me. Rocketeer is one of my favourite movies.
The Last Action Hero slander was weird in the 90s, and weirder now. It was a hilarious satire.
I saw Dark City in the theaters. Great movie
The Long Kiss Goodnight is so awesome.
I think movies were my babysitter cause I watched almost everyone of these

Darkman, Go, Jacob's Ladder, and Welcome to the Dollhouse all come to mind.
Darkman 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sam Raimi can do no wrong. Also one of the first great comic book movies outside of Superman and Batman
Go at the time was really good. The days of extacy lol
I love what you do

Galaxy Questbis hilarious, especially the performances from Rockwell and Rickman. I also enjoyed The Big Lebowski.
when the iron giant came out wasn't a big deal !
Jesus Henry Christ I went to the movies alot in the 90’s, I saw almost all of these in the theater!! Starship Troopers was a midnight show and it’s still one of my most fun movie experiences.
Galaxy Quest made twice its budget over 5 months. Not sure its a flop when home media and tv money probably broke the film even.
the rocketeer was good !
23:19 I went into True Romance totally blind. A little ways in, I had the very distinct thought that it seemed very similar to Natural Born Killers.. Dark City doesn't have fight scenes like The Matrix !
strange days weird movie !
i can relate to Johnny Mnemonic, shit jesus shit !
I saw Galaxy Quest in the theaters with my friends from a Star Trek fan club, and I think were the ones enjoying the most in the theater we were in.
I still despise Starship Troopers. It totally misrepresented a great book. And I didn't like the director "satirising American filmmaking" If we ridiculed the Dutch would he appreciate it?

I never heard about that. What a crap move from someone who was also in the industry.

I love Showgirls 😂 it’s so bad it’s good and I can’t help but watch it every time I see it on

Event Horizon is one of my all time favorite horror movies, there's parts that are still freaky as hell even after you've seen it several times.
I loved _The Phantom_ when it came out. It was astonishingly faithful to its source material.
Good list... except for Cool World. a truly terrible film.
The only 90's movies on this list that I enjoy are the following: Galaxy Quest, The Iron Giant, The Rocketeer, The Phantom, The Shadow, Last Action Hero, The long kiss goodnight, & Cool World.
