I still run a 1980 1586 IH tractor in the Panhandle of Nebraska. I use it from primary tillage in the spring through spring and fall planting. It has been a decent reliable tractor since bought new in 1980.

We are running a 1086 with fwa, as well as a 186 with fwa, we feel very fortunate to have these beauties on our farrn here in Alberta. We have done cultivating, harrowing, haybine, discbine, raking, round baler work with them both. As much as I appreciate the hydro, the 10 has stolen my heart...
    Great video, thanks for posting.

Dad purchased an 886 ROPS only tractor brand new in 1977. He went back and forth between the 886 and 986. For some reason he could only get the 986 with a full cab. He didn’t want that because all of the forage equipment we had at the time had manual controls. It was our biggest tractor, did 95% of the tillage work, ran the chopper for hay and corn.
Still have and use it today. Mainly for baling hay now, some tillage work to help the neighbors at times. Had to rebuild the engine a couple of years ago when one of the liners got a pin hole leak and dumped the coolant into the oil. Well worth putting that money into as well as some new rear rims and tires all around. It’s now good for the next 40 years!!!
    Go red power!

The 886 ROPS is one of my favorite tractors. My neighbor had a 1981 ROPS 886. It was the planting tractor until the 90s when it was traded on a 7220 Magnum. Thank you for sharing the history of you 886.

I sure do agree with you on the go Red power. I've got nine of them ranging from a 1941 BN to a 5-year-old Case IH Farmall 75c. Pretty good sprinkling of letter series that are still at work in there plus a cx95 McCormick which is basically a 690 Case IH Maxim right now I'm loading spray water behind a 460 1960 model can't beat them. I sell farm seed one of my customers said one time he told the John Deere later he said we might try one of them green when some day if we ever managed to wear a red one out! Lol!

Yeah there so cheap second hand too in Australia. $10,000 USD for a 140 HP tractor is a bargain when in AUS if its case and new that would be $120,000 USD for that size. They prob are the best value money for HP tractor that is very reliable they are very heavy long lasting and well made.... the old 60HP 70s international tractor is double the weight of a chinese brand 60HP tractor if you bother to check , goes to show the quality and how well built they are

Very cool tractor line up. The 986 and 900 Cyclo are a perfect IH planting team.

My uncle had a 1086 in the 80’s, planting tractor and pulled a two row lilliston hi-cap peanut combine.

The 1086 was very popular in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Good sized row crop.

I will never forget in 1976 the bicentennial parades the IH dealers had that new line of tractors and we were in aw and farmers bought them as fast as possible

my first tractor is a ih 986 which i still use today , mostly used to mow hay with w 3pt disc mower. in the past it pulled a new holland 1431 disc bine. been a very trust worthly tractor and with only minor break downs {ac and ta} but over a great tractor

That is good to hear. A dairy farm I grew up by had new 986 when I was a kid. It was their main tractor until it was traded for a Case IH 2096 in 1985. The 2096 was interesting because it was the first Case IH in the area. It was so new it was painted red but still had an orange CASE decal. Both the 986 and 2096 were used to plow, forage harvest and spread manure.

We Australians never got the 86 series till 1978, we were being sold the 66 and black stripe 66 till then. My neighbour has a 1086B, the last of them. He is forever complaining about the TA and how it sticks the gears. Yeah, they do that when the TA is not in low for a gear change. He had his TA welded up so lost half his gears. I'm still running a '72 766 with the original Torque ampifier and no dramas.

Very cool info. Thank you for sharing. I have a 1982 IH Buyers Guide from Australia that features the all red 86 B series. I also have an IH Acre Master brochure. I hope someday to feature an 86 B and an Acre Master here on the channel.
