Nice work! I love the 86 Series tractors. As a teenager in the late 70's I swathed with a 186 Hydro and did fall tillage with a 1586. Both tractors were very easy to operate. Again, nice restoration! All the best!
Take her back to the Dealer - She's Factory !!!!! That turned out Beautiful.. And your Edits are on point... the way you recorded almost the entire process was very well done ! Good Job all the way around...
For it's time the 86 series tractors were awesome. A HUGE upgrade from the previous 66 series. However they lacked a syncho transmission and the doors should have opened the other way. My dad bought a new 1086 in 1979 and we kept it on the farm until about the mid 90s. It had over 9000 hours on it and we never touched the engine and had no other serious repairs on it. Is that a tilt steering wheel in that cab taken from a 50 series tractor?
I’m curious if it’s for sale?...my daddy bought 2 of them brand new in either 78 or 79... I remember when they pulled up on the truck...2 of them on a drop deck! Coolest thing I had seen before!!! I had a sheltered life pretty far off the road..😂
Your 1086 looks great. You put alot of effort and hours into it but, I didn't see you touch the motor, Trans or clutch. Did you tear it down that far and didn't freshen those things up? She looked to have quite a few hours on her before resto.. paint will only get you so far. Sorry for being a wet blanket.
From factory they were red but in our opinion those tractors look better with silver rims to match the back rims. We also painted the front pillar posts black rather than white for similar reasons
I respectively disagree about the silver/gray frt wheels looking better. I worked at FARMALL from the fall of 1976 in the front axle assembly area then was laid-off briefly and rehired into production scheduling in the gear maching area directly across the main aisle from from axle assembly. That shade of gray was first used on the 5088, 5288, 5488 with matching rear rims. I was tire/wheel/rim Buyer by then and really didn't like the dull gray. The brighter more silver of the rear rims was better in my opinion, or polished chrome like the 5-Millionth tractor. BUT I do have to say this guy REALLY knows his way around a FARMALL TRACTOR! I was laid-off the last time in 1980 or '81if I remember correctly. I was driving over the road for FARMALL'S contract carrier by then, did LOTS of special pickups of truckload stuff. I even got into J.I. Case's Burlington, Iowa plant one day and later that day into Deere Dubuque's plant. Delivering a split load of BFG rear backhoe tires. I keep hearing rumors about former FARMALL people gathering for lunch at various restaurants in Moline. Even though I live about 200 miles from there I would drive down to see how my old coworkers are doing. Maybe someday I'll buy a 10 or 1486 to go with my 1954 FARMALL SUPER H Dad bought me about 1968, and I also have Dad's 1951 FARMALL M he bought brand new. I wish I could find the '54 Super M-TA he bought about 1960, but I WILL OWN one someday. But there is absolutely no chance I'll buy the piece of junk 1940 Deere B, or the '51 R diesel Dad owned for 3-4 months, a gutless turd and the rearend was as fragile as glass. Not sure what all exactly failed on Dad's '63 4010 that caused it to get sold right out of the repair shop. The four capscrews that held the rear pto stub shaft on the pto driveshaft came completely loose and it shifted itself from 540 to 1000 rpm which destroyed around $3000-$4000 worth of otherwise O-K parts. The 4010 was sold right out of the repair shop, the buyer wanted an M&W turbocharger installed which only needed less than about 9 months to destroy the transmission and final drives. I still have the Cub Cadet 70 Dad bought about 1965, I have my '68 #72 that still runs great, and the 982 I bought about 1988 still runs O-K but I'm scared to death of that 20 hp Onan engine. I bought a Cub Cadet TANK ZERO TURN 8-9 years ago, the 27 hp Kawasaki in it runs great. I don't have that feeling of impending DOOM starting the Kawasaki or the Kohler's like I get starting the Onan. Some day I may look for a 1486, I'll need a taller shop to get the cab inside. I think of ALL the days I had to walk home from doing fieldwork with our 4010 and just let it sit till Dad got home from work.
I like the mirrors. Did you have to weld the ROPS to make the mirrors work? Or was it welded to another part? Can you please clarify the part numbers used for the mirrors and brackets. Great rebuild.
I am getting set up to take on more restorations. I have 1 or 2 boxcar magnums scheduled for restorations this coming spring and will post videos on them.
Not fussed on the mirrors although obviously very practical but the rest of the restoration is fantastic. Restoring my MF165 at the moment - hope it turns out as well as this!
I have a ‘77 886 with just the ROPS Kit. Been trying to find a white top sheet metal roof piece. It’s all one piece instead of having the cutout for the heat/ac cover. Any ideas?
Mike links from triple r tractor might be able to help you out with new sheet metal. Justin Red Nalle might be able to source a clean used roof skin for you also. He helped us out sourceing most of our replacement used parts for the build
The black pillar posts and black interior was intentional. We think these tractors look better without the white posts and an all black interior is much cleaner looking. The black post will hopefully hide scratch more than the white also
Silver rims on the front look better, same with the black pillar posts, IH made both of these changes when they went to the 88 series. It’s all about individual preference.
First tractor my grandfather ever taught me to drive! Will always have a beautiful place in my heart! Wonderful job!

Thanks 👍
One of world's most beautiful tractors. The restoration makes it all complete
Loved working on these was a mechanic at a dealer great job brought back good memories
That’s awesome, I grew up driving a 1486. We couldn’t keep the transmission going, but she was a good tractor to drive. Thanks for sharing your video.
You dont have to be an international fan to recognize how pretty that tractor is. Love the sound of a straight pipe.
Nice job! Happy to see a 1086 restored like this. That's a sharp tractor.
Take her back to the Dealer - She's Factory !!!!! That turned out Beautiful.. And your Edits are on point... the way you recorded almost the entire process was very well done ! Good Job all the way around...
Awesome tractor! I love the 86 series!!
Nice you did an excellent job !!!
I just pulled a 1086 out of the woods yesterday. I can’t wait to restore it.
Wow great job! My grandpa had one of these and I recall him taking me with him out to the field in it! Great tractor!
I like the way you took everything apart and cleaned up everything
1086. My favorite since I was a kid
Absolutely gorgeous. Oh my gosh...the WORK, THE WORK! Love the rain-cap style chrome stack too.
I'm not a red man but you did a hell of a job just perfect
over the top brother,, God bless,,, nice,,
Thank you for the video. Hope to see what’s next
Gorgeous!
This is a great video. Great job on the restoration

Absolutely amazing
You looked like you could have worked at Farmall back in the day,Outstanding job and product!!
Nice job guys. Cheers from sunny down under.
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Awesome job awesome tractor..
Wow! Really nice job you did. I’m in the process of doing mine now
That’s beautiful beyond belief.
Beautiful job, beautiful tractor.
Wow! Awesome!
Very nicely done work, the tractor became very nice👍💪💪👍👌
Great job!!!!!!
Impressive indeed. I spent a ton of hours in 66 and 86 series tractors. A LOT of hours in a 1468 (does that get included in the 66 series? lol. )
Great job ...and good results...👍
Wow 👍
Beautiful job, would you do 1486 😊???
Perfect work ,Nice tractor 👌💪🤓✌️

seeing inters new delivered
is timeless no one can ever take that away.
So good. Nice work.
That is a beautiful tractor and beautiful restoration!
You Guys rock that is beautiful
Mine is next! Looks awesome.

Amazing job
Awesome, good job
Just amazing!
Beautiful
Looks great. I've never seen a cab tore apart so much
Great job!! What would u charge to do another!?!
Its hard to put a number on a job this extensive. We put over 400 hrs of labor into the build alone. I would have to charge around $20k roughly.
Very good 👍
Wow. Well done. This was a good series. Well... I got some ideas from watching this. Who did you buy your cab replacement kit from ?
Excellent 👍😁
Right on brother. Unbelievable job
Remarkable Job
How many hours spent on this tractor???
Over 400 hrs on the restoration.
It's super nice. How many months did this take to do it.
3
Good work
New mirrors are a nice touch
Fun fact about the IH 1486. The rear wheels diameter is larger than the hood length
Looks nice that’s the kind of tractor i want to buy 👍
Looks great. Only thing wrong is the front rims should be red.

Wow, just wow. So cool
I’ve got one like it. That ol girl will pay you back 10 times over. Exactly what she needed.
I’d love to know how much that cost, and be able to compare it to the price of a new 100-125 horse tractor.
Beautiful restoration! Beautiful Tractor!
I like the mirrors. Did you have to weld the ROPS to make the mirrors work? Or was it welded to another part? Can you please clarify the part numbers used for the mirrors and brackets. Great rebuild.
The mirrors are from K and M manufacturing, we made custom brackets that are welded to the top of the front posts
Molto bravi !,
looks great :) i hope to do the same to my 1586 :)
Awesome
Awesome job guys. Looks new again.
Is the restortion for use or sail😊its a beuti better then new💪
For use, not for sale
Nice!
Sweet
Did you make the mirror brackets or did they come with the mirrors?
We made them, and welded them directly to the frame of the cab, similar to the boxcar magnums.
Excellent work! What brand/ type of paint did you use?
CRE primer and delfleet essentials single stage polyurethane base coat
For future reference…How much to bring back an IH 1066?
Great job on this, the paintwork and detail looks great. Do you have a gallery of the pictures anywhere?
Are you doing restoration work, I have a 1086 looking at getting done?
I am getting set up to take on more restorations. I have 1 or 2 boxcar magnums scheduled for restorations this coming spring and will post videos on them.
Not fussed on the mirrors although obviously very practical but the rest of the restoration is fantastic. Restoring my MF165 at the moment - hope it turns out as well as this!
Today in France these mirrors are essential.
Very good looking and efficient
Love it !!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! Fantastic work!
Espestacular👏👍
The tractor looks great. Do you perform restoration work for customers ? I have a IH 1486 in need of restoration.
Not yet, but hopefully in the future.
We have a beautiful original 1486. And another original thats been sitting outside where it died.
I have a ‘77 886 with just the ROPS Kit. Been trying to find a white top sheet metal roof piece. It’s all one piece instead of having the cutout for the heat/ac cover. Any ideas?

You're very meticulous, fun to watch the whole resto at once!
This is awesome. It looks better than new!! Our 1979 Red Power 1086 needs restoration. Thanks for video
I have a 686. Would you restore mine??????
I’d love to, but at the moment I don’t have the time or setup to do more restorations. Hopefully in the ear future I will be able to
Man i would love to do this
Is this for sale?
No, it is not for sale
Others then they got the paint wrong on parts of the can it looks great
The black pillar posts and black interior was intentional. We think these tractors look better without the white posts and an all black interior is much cleaner looking. The black post will hopefully hide scratch more than the white also
What year
77'
How long did this take you to restore?
About 10 minutes.
Hard to say, approximately 400+ hours went into the project
Mint
Not a total restoration because they didn’t come with silver wheels on the front there supposed to be red.
Silver rims on the front look better, same with the black pillar posts, IH made both of these changes when they went to the 88 series. It’s all about individual preference.
Beautiful!!!!!!
👌👍✊👏👏
Thank god you didnt paint the axles red.
I have the matching 6 row planter for this Era of ih tractor
