IDOL in japan always treated as a slave of entertaiment. meaning their life always being watched and being judge by fans. the example of this matters are so many in Japan. getting threated, stalked, getting murdered by their own fanatic fans. and cause of this matters are many but few happend because of relationship of their IDOL. having love relationship in japan for some fanatic fans meaning betrayal to fans. thats why this anime going viral in japan. thats my opinion and correct me if im wrong here. i just giving my own opinion.
first it's awesome but i feel like japan also has change coming to the entertainment industry, oshi no ko (anime) came just at the same moment as the singer ado is getting popular for rejecting societal norms, and also the fact that anything idol is popular there helps lol (tldr: amazing execution, good timing and countering a popular anime wave a bit like madoka magica did back in the day)

nah it's going viral because it's fucking amazing. The premise is interesting but the execution is what sets it apart.
