MANIPURI KHICHRI RECIPE

Ingredients:
2 cups of short grain rice
1/2 cup of split pigeon peas / hawai mairongbi /toor dal
1/4 cup of split red lentils / hawai musori /masoor dal
2 tbs of cooking oil
1 tbs of ghee
1 bay leaf
2 serving spoons of chopped chinese chives /maroi nakuppi
1 tsp of crush ginger / sing asuba
5 green chillies / slit lengthwise
2-3 pinches of asafoetida / hing
1 tsp of chilli flakes /morok asuba (optional)
3/4 tsp of turmeric powder
1 and 1/2 tbs of crushed coriander seeds and cumin seeds
salt to taste
2 and 3/4 cups of water

We call it KHECHI not Khichri. Let's not spoil our local dialect. Please put Khichri inside a bracket besides Khechi if you have to put it!
