Thank you for trying the Shepherds Pie. I've always wondered about it, especially with it being so large. I really appreciate your honest opinions, all the while being respectful.
i make a good pie chicken also use the frozen crust and the pillsbury dough for the top and you can make it without crust in a pan temp dosent havento be exact i have a small mixer takes care of all boneless food
Wishing you both a wonderful Christmas and a New Year blessed with many many more adventures. Thank You for allowing all of us to tag along. You are truely an amazing couple . Do not change a thing. God bless !
Love your test kitchen! It’s cool that you started your channel to review restaurants (and be able to force Rich to take you out to dinner regularly, -Jen’s words 😂❤️) and doing takeout and test kitchen reviews was an accidental fantastic addition!❤️😃
Another great video in the test kitchen! We really enjoyed the shepherds pie. On day two, we made a little sauce of worcestershire and ketchup to plate it on. It added a little zip. We are super excited to try that dip! It looks super yummy and unique. Hopefully, they have it at our local Costco. Love you guys. Enjoy the snow!

I love these Costco/Sam’s type of videos! Gives me a good feel as to what to try! As for restaurants, I’d love to see you review Perkins Restaurant and Bakery out in Dandridge. I’ve passed by there for so many years when I come to the area, and have always wanted to stop, but for some reason or another have never gotten there, and have not seen anyone review it. Keep up the great work!
I love the Costco pecan pie. But yes agree, it's just to big. We only get it when we have a big family meal. The Shepards pie did look good so. But again only worth it if you have a dinner or big family. Never had the dip.
Shepherds pie is so easy to make that I wouldn't buy it ready made anywhere. That cranberry jalapeño dip sounds so good!!! My favorite pie is cheesecake. 😊❤
First time viewer! I enjoyed your review of the Costco meal. I’m in Oregon, so I’m probably not interested in your local restaurant reviews, but the Costco review was very appealing.
I don't want to be a know it all but this is a little history which I find fascinating. Shepherds pie was usually made from leftovers from the Sunday joint, lamb or mutton. If it was beef it was called cottage pie. Traditionally it does not have a bottom crust so you can see its "planover" roots.
BTW Jenn, we love the Costco Shepherd Pie. As you mentioned, I put a Monterey Jack cheese on the top about 10 minutes before taking it out of the oven. Mine always needs 60 minutes to get to 180 degrees!
Thank you for sharing. We had the same thoughts about the shepherd's pie and chicken pot pie; we felt that there was just too much crust on the chicken one. I have never had the pecan pie-I am the only one who likes it. I did buy a pecan pie at Aldi's last year, and it was pretty good.
I always feel so relaxed when watching you two! You seem like good people :) Question, have you ever tried persian food? If you ever get to Nashville, please try it, its amazing. Or you both are always welcome to visit NYC anytime! Merry Christmas to you both.
@jennifermountaingirl The square cheese pizzas! My school had good food. It wasn't heat and eat like today. They cooked the meals daily back in the 70s and 80s.
Love Shepard’s and pecan pie. Shepards pie looked good not sure I’ve seen with a crust. How that’s crazy story. Love pecan pie. Key lime is my favorite and like coconut cream. Thanks for sharing, day complete. Bye
Thanks!! It’s from a site called mint pineapple boutique online. The style is the Dear Scarlet. They are a great value- 29.00 but they always go on sale. If you order please let them know I sent you!!
Looked good. I just love how you 2 take care of each other: Rich getting your plate ready ❤❤❤ Love you guys! Pumpkin pie all the way!!😊 I like my whipped cream with a little pie lol!😅
I wasn’t a big fan of the Costco shepherds pie. For some reason the meat seemed to have a weird texture. I think I would prefer ground beef in it. I am definitely going to get that cheese spread for New Year’s Eve! Great video. Subscribed!
That dip might also be good in sliced turkey wraps like the cranberry cream cheese they put on the yummy Costco rollups. The Shepard Pie is "supposed" to have dark gravy but I think this is very tasty. It was herby. It is supposed to be "soupy" because that is the gravy. it is also usually not in a literal pie crust, just potato topping, but I thought the crust went well and was a good addition. Last comment is people doing holiday pecan pie comparisons say the same as you, that the Costco interior is too loose and it usually comes out last in the comparison contest. Glad to see you weighed in on the Shep. pie. I wish if you can, you had shown a close up of both pies after they were cut.
My family and myself absolutely adore shepherds pie! I put ground beef, onions, beef stock, carrots, rutabaga, ketchup and something called HP sauce, which you get in U.K.. It’s almost like a slightly sweet steak sauce, oh and worchestershire sauce. Of course I grate cheddar cheese over the mash potato topping, sometimes I crush potato chips over the top as well five minutes before serving the pie. The only difference is, i don’t make a crust. The pecan pie looked good, especially with some vanilla or butter pecan ice cream! Yummy! Nice pie to round off the meal!
💗 Jen & Rich, I just love starting my day with you two kids … I’m 72 so I can say that!😌 Also, your home 🏡 is beautiful and your two puppies 🐶 are darling. Take care loves, 🌴💁🏼♀️ Susan from Southern California🪴🌷🌴
Would love to see a homemade meal that is your favorite. Like the content and I personally think Sheppard's pie is better when you make it at home. God Bless you 🙏.
that dip is addictive! I like it as a spread on Costcos cranberry walnut bread, I lightly toast the bread, Rich is a pie ever too large?:) one slice of the pie is enough to satisfy anyone. what an experience driving to MI, that young man was fortunate, hopefully he will become a more aware driver in the future. Enjoyed the video and your honest review, look forward to the next one.
I love pecan pie! My DIL brought a Marie Callender’s pecan pie for Thanksgiving. I thought it was better than homemade! 😳 I then went to Walmart and picked up 2 because they were on sale and put them in the freezer! I don’t think I’ve ever had a Marie Callender’s pie that I didn’t like🤷♀️ I’ve never been a fan of shepherd’s pie. It’s not bad, it’s just kinda mehhh🙃 Hope you have a great week! Blessings 🙏
I agree about adding cheese on top. I don't know if they sell alot of those, but to me it would look less bland and more appealing with cheese on it. Pecan pie is one of the easiest you'd ever make using the recipe on karo syrup bottle or google one. Always better than a store bought one, which I agree is usually more runny.
We love the cranberry Jalapeño dip. Summer before last they had pineapple jalapeño dip and that was awesome. Didn’t have it this past summer. Haven’t tried the Shepherds Pie yet. Every Christmas we get the pecan pie!! Thanks for this excellent review! ❤️❤️❤️
Love your videos I have a dinner question....what was the main meal your family could eat every week and never get tired of was it sea food you have said yall worked in the sea food industry...have a blessed day
Glad you said you’re not crazy about Spicy. Coastco and Sam’s has the biggest pies. I’ve never had Shepards pie before. I’d like to try a smaller version. Just two of us like you both. ? Where did you both meet? I like the food try’s you do. 😊
I'm so glad you tried all these things because I have been wondering about all of them. Not sure I would buy the shepherds pie and almost purchased the pecan pie but it's too runny and sweet for my taste after watching this. Thanks for your video!
We have seen the Shepherds Pie at Costco's but have never tried it. Thanks for the review. Have you ever seen the small premade hamburger pattties at Sam's, They come in a large pack.
Hi guys, from your local neighbors. I cant wait till you get back to doing our local restaurants. Do you like mom and pop places? If so try Janices in Cosby. Its down from Carvers apple barn. There are like 4 restaurants down that way and never knew it. I learned of it from J&B in the Hills. Gosh, I could watch your videos every day lol Take care
We thank you very much for watching and we are going to be doing local restaurants again this week we are going into Gatlinburg! I will definitely look at Janice‘s. I do like J and B in the hills. They are really good. Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Out of the three products, the dip looked most interesting to me. I've never seen it before so l'll be on the lookout for it when I go to Costco next week. I could tell by Rich's shrug that he wasn't a fan of the shepherd's pie. Try making him one using stout or some type of black beer. If he likes beer, he'll love the rich taste it imparts.
Pecan pie is my fav pie. I like to take a smaller piece, warm it up and top it with vanilla ice cream. You gotta try it. Isn’t it crazy how that huge pecan pie is so cheap compared to a bakery? Loved the video, loved your blouse, appreciate the reviews❤
It looks more like a pot pie with mash topping. If it has a crust its also mash. Originally recipe comes from United Kingdom, they are proud of it and its served often. How ever that pie looks really good, however I would have had to load it with a cheese topping. I really like UKs Shepard pie, but they like to serve it with mushy peas. Now I like peas I just like them mashed up. Thanks for the review, always appreciate your time and effert. Im late to watch because I've been going back and watching your past videos. I found your channel couple of weeks ago and have really enjoyed your reviews.
Y’all are the best. I doubt that shepherds pie was originally prepared in the size of a large pizza ! In my experience, shepherds pie has been baked and served in either a small casserole dish or a pot pie 🥧 sized container. Those smaller containers allow the mashed potatoes to crust and brown to chosen wellness, evenly across the entire surface. Merry Christmas Jen and Rich and thanks for the time effort and money that you put into each video. QUESTION: for the reviews, each of you only takes a bite of the other’s meal. But when you take the leftovers home, do you maintain that routine or is it more you put it out, family style and each of you share?
You know, I think the shepherds pie would’ve been better in a smaller container like you said. And what we usually do is we each taste the other persons food and then we take our leftovers home and then we eat our own leftover meal. Only because we each usually order what we like the best. But we will always share if the other person wants some.
I've had my eye on the Costco Pecan pie for a long time....wish I'd have picked one up for Thanksgiving. Won't pass it up next time I see it, love your videos!
That dip would be right up my alley but ever since I had "the plague" in 2020 I can't eat onions, they taste/smell horrible like gasoline. I miss onions. Pecan pie is my favorite too!
Hi Jen and Rich! Thank you for the review (: I’ve been thinking of a meal time question for a while aaaanddd, I wanted to ask you guys what Bella and bensons story is! Are they siblings? Did you adopt them at the same time? How old are they? They are so adorable! Have a great day you guys ❤️❤️
Shepherd's pie is such a subjective thing and everyone's mom made it different. I know someone who always put bell peppers in hers - but I'm allergic and never tried it. My mom only did cooked ground beef and mashed potatoes on top (dad was a picky eater, not me! lol). And it can have anything in it. With that pecan pie, they didn't boil the filling long enough nor refrigerate it quick enough so the filling would set and not just ooze. Still, I'm sure it won't go to waste.
I love that cheese spread! I use to buy the pecan pie every year for Christmas, my kids would ask for us to bring it to their house. I would usually take that and the pumpkin pie. Our house is too picky for that shepherds pie. 😂 I live a hour and 15 minutes from Costco now, so I know I’m going to miss out on that cheese spread. Dang it!
Hey guys 🤗 Jen the shepherds pies I've always seen have cheese on top, so very strange theirs doesn't... Hope y'all are enjoying your weekend, and love all your videos!👍❤️🎅🤶🎄❄️
I wish that you would do more local only places because there's so many. Everyone has a CostCo, or Applebee's. A video of local places in G'burg will bring in more visitors. Locals may not like it, but maybe show Anakeesta 😊
I just picked up the shepherd's pie I'm going to try it tonight but I wanted so bad to try the cranberry jalapeno dip but they are completely out hopefully I get it before season but I doubt it, but I work at Publix and they have a pineapple jalapeno so I may have to try that
Lov shaperds pie❤we hav a place here in gergetown ohio.its about 40mile.east of dwntwn cincinnati..called o.malleys..thay make a award winning shapperds pie.yum
Love Warm Apple pie and really good vanilla ice cream cant beat it. Yum😊 Also wow someone hit you while you were going down the road 65 miles per hour I would of been stunned.
I would love the dip, but I thank you for the review on the shepherds pie as I don’t like mushrooms so that item is out for me. I keep saying, “why do they put mushrooms in everything?”
Mmmm All looks delicious, I actually just made a Shepard pie last night but I have never made it with pie crust, would love to try this one. I must try that dip, and Their Pecan pie is the best, so yummy but I agree its too big! 😂😂😂😋👌
Now we need to go to Costco tomorrow to get that cranberry jalapeno dip 😂. I think we’ll pass on the shepherds pie and pecan pie. Thanks for “taking one for the team”! Looks good, just too big. Great job, as usual!
Dinnertime question: Do you ever call ahead to restaurants to find the best times to go; it seems most places you go are not busy at that time. Also, do you need to ask “permission” from places to film. Have you ever been told no recording or you need to stop? Please show some wedding pics and others from your life together. Thanks!
I have a question. Tell us about your yorkies, male, female, names, ages. Do they need a lot of affection from you or are they just happy with each other?
I am thinking this is a dinner time question but I will tell you now too- 😁 Bella is a male- he is the bigger one and he will be 17 this year! Bella is his 1/2 sister and she is 13. She is a 100% lap dog and he loves us but likes his space!!
I love shepard's pie. I put cheese on top of mine too. Well, sorry to say you lost me when said mushrooms. Just cannot do those. I do like pecan pie. My favorite is custard pie.
Did you ever try to make an impossible pie? The recipe can be googled. It’s so easy and delicious. Every ingredient is put in a blender and baked. Kinda tastes like coconut custard pie.
I love everything you both ate. I was eating a cold piece of pizza watching you guys. LOL! Theirs another pie that you guys should try and it's the best pie I ever ate in my life. Google it up and see for yourself and please get the receipt in their website. I currently don't have it sad to say but I don't. It's called Girdle buster pie. If you absolutely love pistachios you will fall in love with this pie. I guarantee you definitely will. Please try to make it it definitely will be worth the time making it for yourself and your beautiful family.
I have never cared for Shepard Pie but the pecan pie sure looked good. It is something you can only have a little bit of though. I am not into really sweet desserts. I always enjoy your videos though.
I've never heard of a Shepherd's pie with a pie crust. It usually is the meat filling with mashed potatoes on the top. In fact Shepherd's pie is made using ground lamb. Cottage pie is ground beef. Shepherds herd sheep and not cows.
Thank you for trying the Shepherds Pie. I've always wondered about it, especially with it being so large. I really appreciate your honest opinions, all the while being respectful.
Thanks- it was good- just not great…
i make a good pie chicken also use the frozen crust and the pillsbury dough for the top and you can make it without crust in a pan temp dosent havento be exact i have a small mixer takes care of all boneless food

I love your Costco reviews! That dip looks interesting. I love anything cranberry! Their pies are so huge! Great job as always, you two. ❤️

Would you share the recipe
The Cajun stuffed chicken from buc ees was amazing. Thanks for the taste test

That cranberry jalapeño dip is really good! Ohh and I LOVE cheesecake too!!
Hey guys. How long can you keep the cranberry dip? I’m guessing it won’t freeze too well? Can’t wait to taste it!!
Cream cheese doesn’t freeze well. Nor does sour cream
Ours is dated until the end of January and we looked and it’s says not to freeze it..😟
Love all your content. Very enjoyable to watch.
Thanks so much, we appreciate it!
First time viewer! I enjoyed your review of the Costco meal. I’m in Oregon, so I’m probably not interested in your local restaurant reviews, but the Costco review was very appealing.
Looks great! I make my own jalapeño, cranberry dip myself! Definitely very tasty!
I just saw a copycat recipe for it on all recipes so I will try it- looked pretty easy! 😊
@@jennifermountaingirl it really is just jalapeños, cranberry, onion, cream cheese, lemon juice and sugar!
I really enjoy your videos! You are so easy to watch & are so down to earth! I love Coconut Cream pie too! Happy Holidays!🎄😊
We appreciate the kind words!!😊
Hello from CA🎄Thank you for opening your kitchen and sharing your reviews from Costco! Merry Christmas!

I am single i do not have a costco or Sam's club memberships but i like your videos very informative thank you
Well thanks so much for watching! We appreciate it!❤️😊
If you know someone with a membership, have them buy a gift card for you. You can shop without a membership.
I never saw a Shepherd's pie with a bottom crust before. School cafeteria used to make a really good one.
I used to love the school cafeteria pizza!! Do you remember that?
It's a sin to put a crust on Shepard's Pie.
@jennifermountaingirl The square cheese pizzas! My school had good food. It wasn't heat and eat like today. They cooked the meals daily back in the 70s and 80s.

Noted! I agree probably better homemade!!
I love Pecan Pie, I heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds. Makes it taste even better!
I make shepherds pie at home. I cook the ground beef with cream of chicken. Ty for sharing. If I saw that at the store I would want to try it too.

It’s so good! I hope you love it!
Love your work style guys ❤
We appreciate that, thanks for watching! 😊❤️
That dip would be right up my alley but ever since I had "the plague" in 2020 I can't eat onions, they taste/smell horrible like gasoline. I miss onions. Pecan pie is my favorite too!
That's a bummer! Hopefully, you can eat them again someday!
I make Shepherds/Cottage Pie all the time. It's nice if you can find a good prepared one.
Homemade is always THE BEST!!
Hi Jen and Rich! Thank you for the review (: I’ve been thinking of a meal time question for a while aaaanddd,
I wanted to ask you guys what Bella and bensons story is! Are they siblings? Did you adopt them at the same time? How old are they? They are so adorable! Have a great day you guys ❤️❤️
Thanks for that great question!! ❤️
Your Dads version sounds right up Rich’s alley!!
I love that cheese spread! I use to buy the pecan pie every year for Christmas, my kids would ask for us to bring it to their house. I would usually take that and the pumpkin pie. Our house is too picky for that shepherds pie. 😂
I live a hour and 15 minutes from Costco now, so I know I’m going to miss out on that cheese spread. Dang it!
I know it's a bummer to be far from a Costco! It is worth the drive sometimes, just for those special items. 😊
It's nice get someone else's opinion when your hesitant about trying something new. Thanks for the review.
That’s what we’re here for! 😊
Hey guys 🤗 Jen the shepherds pies I've always seen have cheese on top, so very strange theirs doesn't... Hope y'all are enjoying your weekend, and love all your videos!👍❤️🎅🤶🎄❄️
I think you are right- it was a little unusual that it didn't have cheese. Thanks so much for watching!❤️
I do really like that cranberry jalapeño dip!
It’s definitely different!
The trick to cutting pie and getting a clean slice out is to cut two pieces before you remove the first one, much easier
I will try that! Thanks for the tip!
Me myself am not a pie person…but im glad you all enjoyed it…another Great review from your test kitchen!!!❤❤❤
Thanks for joining us!!
380 degrees. 😀
😂
Oh Yum! I make my own but how nice to have that on hand . 😊
I’m going to try making my own.
I wish that you would do more local only places because there's so many. Everyone has a CostCo, or Applebee's. A video of local places in G'burg will bring in more visitors. Locals may not like it, but maybe show Anakeesta 😊
I'm always watching and waiting because I've moved away
Next Thursday will be a local place in Gatlinburg.
Lovely couple
Thank you!!❤️😊
I just picked up the shepherd's pie I'm going to try it tonight but I wanted so bad to try the cranberry jalapeno dip but they are completely out hopefully I get it before season but I doubt it, but I work at Publix and they have a pineapple jalapeno so I may have to try that
Ohhh… I need to look for that! Pineapple sounds great!
Lov shaperds pie❤we hav a place here in gergetown ohio.its about 40mile.east of dwntwn cincinnati..called o.malleys..thay make a award winning shapperds pie.yum
That’s great!
Love Warm Apple pie and really good vanilla ice cream cant beat it. Yum😊 Also wow someone hit you while you were going down the road 65 miles per hour I would of been stunned.
Yes we were very lucky!
I would love the dip, but I thank you for the review on the shepherds pie as I don’t like mushrooms so that item is out for me. I keep saying, “why do they put mushrooms in everything?”
I know, I get you on the mushrooms!
Great video, Thank you.
Thanks for watching!!
Coconut Cream Pie is the best.
It's definitely a classic!
Mmmm All looks delicious, I actually just made a Shepard pie last night but I have never made it with pie crust, would love to try this one. I must try that dip, and Their Pecan pie is the best, so yummy but I agree its too big! 😂😂😂😋👌
It is definitely a big pie!😂
😂😂😂@@jennifermountaingirl
Now we need to go to Costco tomorrow to get that cranberry jalapeno dip 😂. I think we’ll pass on the shepherds pie and pecan pie. Thanks for “taking one for the team”! Looks good, just too big. Great job, as usual!
Dinnertime question:
Do you ever call ahead to restaurants to find the best times to go; it seems most places you go are not busy at that time. Also, do you need to ask “permission” from places to film. Have you ever been told no recording or you need to stop? Please show some wedding pics and others from your life together. Thanks!
Thanks!! 😊
Can you show us eating leftovers and by adding cheese or whatever for an idea to flavor it up. Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion, our leftovers are usually casual eating when we are busy working during the week so that would be a hard sell to Rich
I have a question. Tell us about your yorkies, male, female, names, ages. Do they need a lot of affection from you or are they just happy with each other?
I am thinking this is a dinner time
question but I will tell you now too- 😁 Bella is a male- he is the bigger one and he will be 17 this year!
Custard pie is a classic! ❤️
We say Pecon in Ga too. I like Pecan, Coconut Cream & Lemon & Chocolate too if it doesn’t have too much Chocolate in it.
I agree with you! Lemon pie is so good- my Mom used to make it!❤️
@ My Mother-in-law made a Delicious Lemon Pie & also a Lemon Pound Cake too.
Question: Was it “real” Shepherds pie” with lamb or Cottage pie with beef? That may account for the difference in flavor.
It was beef …
Did you ever try to make an impossible pie? The recipe can be googled. It’s so easy and delicious. Every ingredient is put in a blender and baked. Kinda tastes like coconut custard pie.
No, I’ll have to look that up!
We'll add that to our list to try!
WOW! Glad you weren't hurt!
Yes!! We were lucky!
Hi Jen and rich, good job 👍 🤗
Thank you so much!
Please try out the chicken street tocos at Costco or the tempura shrimp tacos
Those sound delicious, we have to try them!
I have never cared for Shepard Pie but the pecan pie sure looked good. It is something you can only have a little bit of though. I am not into really sweet desserts. I always enjoy your videos though.
It is definitely a rich pecan pie!
I've never heard of a Shepherd's pie with a pie crust. It usually is the meat filling with mashed potatoes on the top. In fact Shepherd's pie is made using ground lamb. Cottage pie is ground beef. Shepherds herd sheep and not cows.
When i lived in england many years ago they used lamb in shepherds pie
