    I seem to recall some 386 and early 486 boards let you install a "math chip", which was basically a processor upgrade for certain high level math computations.

      Wasn't it called a "math coprocessor"?

    The "glue" on CPUs is thermal paste. If dry comes off with a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol quite easily. that 385 chip was probably the old math co-processor.

      387 is the math copro. 385 is some cache/memory management chip. Is very rare as it was not used in mainstream clone PCs.

    These remind me a lot of when I first started getting into PCs, back in the late 90's and early 00's. Especially those with the cover that fits over the top of the desktop casing. Back when they all had separate graphics and sound cards as well as serial and parallel port connectors. Floppy drives were standard as well as a small capacity but huge sized hard-disk that was really heavy compared to later models. CD-ROMs were just starting to become popular and weren't cheap. Memory was fairly sparse, with only one two module slots to a machine. Most weren't ATX, so had to be turned off manually once the OS had closed down. USB was only just starting to appear but hadn't quite been included as standard, yet.

    I needed a ISA VGA card and the cheapest I find was 50-60 euros in rough condition. The better looking (not tested, sold as is) were for more than 100€. And you destroy them to scrap metal. Good job.

    I have 10 "Circuit Boards"(?). They're in MINT condition, each in a gray "Static Free" bag. Unfortunately, I cannot find exactly what they are (researched for weeks)...Printed on all of them are the words, "CAUTION HIGH VOLTAGE" (👍) and printed underneath, what looks to be a wrapped "C" Battery, is the following: MRL 580127-G
    If anyone knows what these are, I'd be eternally grateful, if you'd share your knowledge with me. Thanks so much!!

    • @stephenw2992
      @stephenw2992 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I knew what copper and PVC cable would be worth these days and stock piled it. I scrapped hundreds of CRTs back in the day for parts mainly, but also saved all the scrap copper and aluminium out of them. 25c a Kg for PVC and transformers, $2 a Kg for copper. Old PCs were just dumped at the scrap yard to go to China.
