- Customer purchased this '83 2204 sight unseen online, so had it shipped directly to me to check it over. The request is to bring it back to 'stock' and to make the amp the best 2204 it could be!

I have a Canadian 1/2 stack from 1983. Complete time capsule rig. Maybe 20 hours on the original tubes. Incredible tone and no hum and
virtually no hiss when preamp and master are dimed. My semi-famous guitar player friend says it is the best amp he has ever played.
Great stuff Jason! You made this amp sound awesome, and arguably better than when it left the factory all those years ago. Cant wait to get stuck into my 2204 and give it the Headfirst treatment!!
my old amp awesome amps..i liked how the gain structure was slightly edgier then my plexi. i used them in stereo for this monster tone and played pubs in the 80s like this haahahahahaa..whats weird is people didnt say we were to loud they actually loved it and in our city we were easily the most popular. I had a girl that used to stand in front of my cabs and i said why do you torture yourself she said i just love the raw sound and she was non musical..i think times have changed so much that now were kinda generic copy cat and soft weaker species..ps loving my origin mod i learnt from you jason your a awesome tech cheers....oh yes the 2204 i used tube screamer or my dean markly warlock.it was still a plexi in a way

Wow That JCM 800 Rocks! The more i think about it the JCM 800 are a work horse for sure! One thing everybody this guy he know how to repair a amp and its done right!
Just picked up one of the last vertical input jcm 800s early 84 2204 completely stock about 6 weeks ago in Perth couldn't believe my ears and a true gem to play great vid

Musos corner newcastle were the last people to service amp,when I 1st bought it mick Sampson from newcastle serviced it,the guy that used to build baez amps.hope rick enjoys that amp as them 800,s are total rock machines

Sounds good! Didn't care for the last couple videos and that one OT seemed to have issues as not bringing the goods you'd expect, but at least you made better.
I saw the -45V+ and said....bias is going to come up cold...but was shocked at how cold that thing was and why farting out. Looks like the old Ken Fisher -40V bias rule still holding merit! It's in good shape now and voltages where they need to be, for sure!

I recently got an ‘87 2204 with a “good”’tube buffered effects loop installed. My tech said it was a good mess style one. He said it appears to be stock, but it’s so much nastier sounding than my ‘15 2203x. He said it measures 51w output on clean and around 70w on the driven channel…..is/was that common ?
My 800 has no sound ? Any ideas ? Checked all the simple stuff.

@@HeadfirstAmps I liked the multimeter at the bench from a few months back. I got some really good tips out of that one. Might even have saved that windsor I'm, ever so slowly, modding. I keep thinking "what would Jason do?"

This one had definitely been tweaked/modded by someone else. Poorly too!

I am having a hell of a time finding the cap for my fuses on my 2205 early '80s jcm 800 50 watt. Dual channel this thing was and is awesome! So I need to get it working again. The fuse caps that were sent to me by some company out of England were too small... Do you have an idea what size fuse capsis would be the fuses in the back are 500 ma and 3 amp. HT if that means something special.? Thank you ahead of time.
You you mean the plastic screw in caps rather than capacitors??
What impulse response are you using? Also, I have a SC20H and it doesn’t seem to have anywhere near as much gain (stock for stock) as this amp. I wonder why not?
Probably from the Ownhammer GNR pack. As for your SC20H, not sure why. Maybe try replacing V1.

Hello great video! Have you ever compared an original jcm800 2203 with the 2203x reissue?. if yes there are differences?
I've had them both one the bench. The reissue is a faithful reproduction, with the exception of the FX loop. But if you bypass it, you'll get proper 2003 tones from a 2203x.

Did you play it straight in after the restoration? That's the way I would have liked to have heard it. And I think Marshall should reissued this amp.

Have you ever seen a 1982 Jcm 800 2204 with Green Tolex and Basket weave on the face plate covering? I got one recently and was wondering if that was just an option at the time? I saw a picture of one from 1986 with horizontal inputs. Thanks!
I definitely worked on a few with the basketweave front panel, they were black tolex though.

When describing knob positions on an amp with clearly labeled 1-10 you can just say 6 and a half instead of 12:30 like you were saying as that clock face only hinders Marshall and fender amp users as both amps are clearly labeled 1-10 🤷🏻♀️😜👍🥂

!/2 watt dropping resistor on the second node ? why not a 1 or 2 watt metal oxide instead?
1/2 watt? I never use 1/2 watt for power droppers.
