"Enibla" literally means "let's eat together" or "join us." If you choose not to join, you can reply with "yetebareke yihun," meaning "let the food be blessed." It beautifully expresses both togetherness and gratitude!
9:30 you had me weak 😂😂😂 as an Ethiopia American I”ll like to say that it was a gesture of of respect and love to be “fed” in our culture! It’s called ‘ gursha ‘ ! His friends were joking and saying he will brag and say he gave gursha to a white person 😂 it’s all out of love and respect! ❤
I love your British accent! I find it charming, sophisticated, and simply enjoyable to listen to. There's something so captivating about the way you pronounce words-it's pure elegance. Congrats! You got my subscription with full bell notifications.
Woah Such a beautiful cross over that I didn't expect. Been watching Harriet's Addis Ababa videos and lo and behold she's the "Ugandan" dorm mate you mentioned. Awesome :)
@11:11 the "bon appetite" version of Ethiopian expression in Amharic is "Yetebarek Yihun❤🙏" = "የተባረከ ይሁን❤🙏" It's like politely saying "no, am full now/good" when someone or group of people invites you to enjoy sharing the meal with them. This expression goes with all graceful n thankful gesture to say "Am good, may God bless your meal"
@abdishakurabdi1844 that song you heard at the coffee ceremony is a religious song from Ethiopian Orthodox church. I am not sure the title of it. Its common thou to hear such melodies in most of commercial places in addis and in fact accross other cities as well. start the day praysing the almighty God, and with Coffee.
Ruby U r humble and respectful girl thank you for visiting ethiopia 🇪🇹 hope u will comeback again, also thanks Swedish girl but u have to try other's tradition u don't have to be afraid 😊
Both three of you are beautiful. Try Tommoca coffee, too. I will be happy if i see both three of you wearing Ethiopian traditional clothes. Thank you for sharing
I rarely watch these u tubes but I enjoyed your efforts, analysis, and comments about the languages as well the church ceremony. Your language skills are good too. Keep it up.
So proud of you 👏🌼🫶love how Green everything is and all the food looks incredible. Also I think the universal term for ‘enjoy your meal’ is Bone App the Teeth xx
jesus christ this british woman is so god damn adorably hot whoops. i mean, Very nice video! Love these Ethiopia videos and Ethiopia in general, one of my very top favorite countries I've been obsessed with. Wish I could visit there myself lol. Hope you're having a great time out there ^_^
Happy to know you visited my homeland Ethiopia, the land of Origin. Beautiful people, friendly and loving people. Hope you share more of your expriences in Ethiopia. Hope to be back to see motherlqnd soon.🙏
at 4:21 lol if you were actually an Ethiopian doing that you'd be getting the "stares". The one spoon in the sugar is to only add sugar into your coffee but the other one that is on the saucer is to mix with it. But good job switching their places :)
"Absolute bangers in this coffee shop"😂😂😂 I'm dead...You were listening to an Ethiopian Orthodox Religious Song... you clearly didn't know though so you're good
11:13 Bon appetit for Amharic can be "melkam kurs" if it's breakfast "melkam mesa" if it's lunch and "melkam erat" if it is dinner...."melkam" means good.
It is so different but to be honest, it was not a huge culture shock. I have lived in Morocco and Egypt and while they are different from Ethiopia, it meant that I am used to many things 🤗💛
I really appreciate seeing Ethiopian pancake Enjra your efforts appreciated Ethiopian people who are welcome addise Ababa ento Park really zomm vowing like lions many other animals to see ,top that Adwa memorial during was being presented that wonderful place to
Dear Ruby, I've traveled to many countries myself and have watched so many travel vloggers on TH-cam for years. I've found that the best ones are those who remain authentic and vlog their own interests and experiences and not just what people want to see. Even the great Anthony Bourdain🕊️ wasn't above visiting the slums and eating from street vendors. Sure, watching fine dining and fancier parts of town can be pleasing to an audience, but that may not be authentic to your personal experience. My advice: people will always have something to criticize, so don't mind them and just do what makes you happy. 🥰
Am I the only one who feels as listening music when the British speak English? Thank you for introducing our culture. I loved the 'Gursha' part🤣, in the beginning she felt insecurity but issue resolved immediately😄 It will likely be a moment that stays in the man's mind for a long time.
It will stay in my mind too haha! I thought it was just something he wanted to do but when I learnt it was a tradition, I immediately felt comfortable ❤️
'Enbila' an invitation made by the person while he or she is eating, but When somebody is eating and you can express your wishes by saying 'melkam megib ' or 'Yetebark yehun'.
Great to see you enjoying Addis, I was born there. Hand feeding in Ethiopian culture in Amharic Gursha embodies the act of feeding someone a small bite using one's hand. This act of sharing food goes beyond satisfying hunger it symbolizes love, respect, and gratitude, making it a gesture of deep significance.
Hej Eva välkommen 🙏🏼 till Ethiopia. Det är bra att du är försiktig men folk är ganska trevliga men alltid lita på din instinkt. Ha en trevlig tid i Etiopien. 🙏🏼❤️
In Ethiopia, if someone you know comes while you are eating, you say "Enibela" which translates to "let's eat" it's considered a very polite gesture. Some people get offended if you ignore to offer some & and continue eating. Hope this helped a lil
"Enibla" literally means "let's eat together" or "join us." If you choose not to join, you can reply with "yetebareke yihun," meaning "let the food be blessed." It beautifully expresses both togetherness and gratitude!
