    Correction: When I said Blackmagic cameras are power efficient, I referred to when they are being used with V-Mount batteries. The battery life with the standard in-body batteries is still bad and always has been.

      Well they do it on ltt a lot too though, it's too heavily tied into the other content. Editing especially. Editing is either not their content or absolutely mainstream content on ltt. Filming is kind of unnecessary it doesn't change much from the videos they do and those are too rare for a full channel. They also need all people qualified for such a channel for filming videos in the first place and to hire a camera operator purely for making videos on it surely doesn't make the employee as happy as... operating cameras. I think unboxings and the occasional other video dedicated to it is fine for now until they get so big that they can dedicate a full team to this which is just too much as of now

    In one of reviews on this camera they said that the battery grip allows hot swap of batteries which comes in handy for long duration shooting with no wall plug or other power supply, which kinda make sense to me.

    • @jurrich
      @jurrich 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinda, but bringing a portable power supply like the 1000W Jackery Power Station that got reviewed on LTT a while back probably makes even more sense.

    • @davidyu1813
      @davidyu1813 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jurrich ikr. it's just people don't really shoot video in portrait (vertical) so I think the battery grip is not really a 'grip' because people won't be holding the camera vertically. thus hot-swapping batteries is the only explanation that might be useful in some cases. but yeah I agree that using something like one of those portable power supplies or vmount bat will be better.

    • @davidhasbrouck7948
      @davidhasbrouck7948 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah all of the other far better battery solutions let you do that. The tilta vmount riser is the way that should be implemented if you want to stack for some reason. But for hand held I really like the weight behind the camera to counterbalance the lense and other front heavy accessories.

    I love it. It's a crazy product, and a useful one. It's definitely a fun piece of kit. I hope BlackMagic continues to make fun cameras in the future, while also maturing their bigger offerings like they have already. And that grip is definitely an odd choice. Though, with a cage added to the body grip combo, and a p-tap battery hanging off the back, your weight distribution may actually balance.

  • @JoblessDirector
    @JoblessDirector 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Been using this since it came out in the UK, I have to say, massive improvements over the 4k and 6k, not quite as good as using an Ursa, but the size is nice. The battery grip height is slightly annoying, but the fact you can hot-swap batteries have up to like 3hours of recording is amazing. The flip-out screen is literally probably the best feature on it, when you have the 4k,6k, and 6k pro next to each other, it just leaps ahead in quality. It does have a fair few software bugs though, one being when it came out, seems to be patched now (Mostly) built-in LUTs would have so many problems actually enabling, even though it said it supported the new camera and new colour science.

  • @agenericaccount3935
    @agenericaccount3935 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The 6k pro may well end up being my first cinema-ish camera, tbh. Someone traded me a bunch of EF glass and an EOS for a mirrorless Sony I had but was not using. The only thing that is missing is something to use that glass to film with.
    I have large pockets 😏

  • @PatrickStirling
    @PatrickStirling 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    the pocket cameras have definitely not been known for power efficiency. but with some solid external power delivery options the battery grip does feel pretty niche. I can see some operators going external power on most rigs and battery grip for some more handheld-y situations

    The battery grip on the BMP6K is super useful when shooting real estate videos, as the camera is usually on a gimbal, with most V-mount kits affecting the balance and the time to replace in-body batteries and rebalance being functionally prohibitive. And at $150 it’s cheap enough and functional enough to make it worth the investment.

    The one thing that people seem to skip over with Blackmagic cameras is the image quality and color science. They easily have some of the best you can get in the price ranges their cameras fall into. Yes the form factors are unconventional and 3 party accessories aren't as plentiful. But if you want a real cinema experience and look and YOU ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING TO GET THE BEST POSSIBLE IMAGE their cameras (basically the whole eco system with Davinci Resolve) is a no brainer.

    I don't see this as a particularly useful all-rounder videography camera, but as a streaming/live camera (for 4k nature etc, obviously not twitch streaming) this is a pretty compelling camera. Mount it, connect a fiberoptic HDMI cable and a decent shotgun mic, and off you go. Before this, the only affordable option you had was something like a GH5 or 6D-II with a good monitor (and the same decent mic).

    The battery grip could be useful for those who need to shoot lots of social media content in vertical format. That being said it wouldn’t work well ergonomically if you need to connect lots of accessories.

    Can you do lens reviews, or a separate camera unboxing channel? Really like this style of video

    I would love to see your opinion on the ZCam E2 M4 as it is in a similar price range as the Black Magic cameras!

    cinema cam... you have to rig it as such, , also none of those other cams will give you 12 bit raw internal so that's a plus.

    why are they making a motion camera more and more DSLR-shaped??

    I recommend Titan Ridge (!) Thunderbolt 3 NVMe enclosures as an external USB-C SSD solution to record to. These can fallback to USB 3.0 5 Gbit/s the camera can use and afterwards you can attach it to a computer with Thunderbolt 3 to get full 32 Gbit/s speeds to transfer the files or directly edit off of them.

    Less than 20 seconds in and Brandon has already shown he's a rightful LMG employee (0:14)
    2 minutes later (2:08) "Notice how the original Pocket is a lot easier to get the sensor messed up with." Camera professional at work ;3

    The Sigma fp is the spiritual successor of the pocket idea.
    There is a market for the p6kpro but it's not the most people. It will be people that come from DSLR which is a little odd.
    It's a Sony sensor for the p4k and p6k, unlike the Ursa line or original cinema/pocket camera which were Fairchild custom developments that BMD had an exclusivity contract with for a while. The 80MP sensor is unknown as I doubt BMD has their own fab.

    Clunky AF - but the output is beautiful, LMG going Blackmagic has generally been a treat for the eyes

    Linus could fit the handheld gaming PC in his pocket. Brandon should be able to fit a DSLR.

    Honestly kind of want to grab one of these to replace my Canon GX10 (the body retails for the same price that this whole-ass camcorder retailed for in 2017 so, like, it's entirely doable).
