    I would mount my pump as close as I could to the rack or box. Keep in mind that you're losing response time and line pressure as you increase the pressure line length.

    • @nickquatrini
      @nickquatrini ปีที่แล้ว

      Has anybody tested this to confirm? I'm doing the install soon and I'm not sure where to mount the pump. But I would think in a hydraulic system the length of the line shouldn't matter because fluid doesn't compress. Therefore once the pump generates pressure that pressure would appear on the other end of the line almost instantly since the fluid doesn't have to flow to build pressure. I would think the flow rate of the line would be more vital than the length of it. Thus, if he is having issues with response he should opt for a thicker feed line, not a shorter one.
      Its the opposite of intercooler piping because air compresses, fluid does not.
      But if you have real world experience with this, I would be curious to hear what you have to say.

    • @user-dx4br5gd1r
      @user-dx4br5gd1r ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nickquatrini I wasn't saying that the fluid would compress. The pump still has to move the fluid and that has weight and resistance. The longer the hose the greater the resistance...the slower the response time.
      The wall thickness and material does expand and contract and will have an effect as well.
      I would want the lightest system with the least resistance and deflection.
      A heavy or thick hose adds weight to the vehicle...not what I'd want.

  • @thecannabiskidfortier6219

    I think the reason why the steering is stiffer, it's the length of the hose for the power steering

    • @SirVic42
      @SirVic42 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The length of the hose and then that 180 just before the fitting to the rack may be crimping the flow.

    • @CoreyStatler
      @CoreyStatler 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be PWM controlled internally but the signal comes from the CAN interface of the vehicle to talk to the pump. I think the default is to run at 70% but that is not enough when tasking it with a load in drifting or racing.

      @eddiereichel9354 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Taylordrifts that may be I guess I just assumed PWM. I mean unless you can find a stand alone controller the only option for this pump to develop the pressure is going to be pair it with a lower pressure rack that or design a controller to go behind the canbus. Can is just a communication protocol. There has to be a workaround because the pump "receives" the signal over can and the controller just turns something on or off.

    If this is a modern pump it has to 'see' a can signal. If not it will turn in limp mode. If this is a can bus pump there are 2 not used pins, were the can bus wiring(always 2 twisted wires) is put on. You will measure 120 ohms on these 2 pins.....Every can bus driven car equipment has a build-in 120-ohm resister, providing signal echo on the wires.

    A lot of good brainstorming in the comments. One comment about the voltage dropping on the skidpad runs, looking back at the video it looks like there is even a yellow light flickering every now and then(warning light?) and it looks like a low to no charge situation. Also a comment about the long runs of the fluid lines. Possibly replace with a hard line and possibly larger diameter for more volume, especially on the return. Another point about the pump possibly needing another input for full pressure output, but I assume that this pump shouldn't need that if it's been spec'd for universall use.

    where did you get the power steering pump controller that controls pressure output for the rack ??

  • @devinbuchhorn
    @devinbuchhorn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well you got a tool for everything else, you should look into getting some heavy duty wire cutters for like 0000 gauge ($30-50). You can use those for cutting those braided and ptfe lines cleanly. And not pay the extra 50 buck on top like Vibrant charges.

    You mentioned the power steering pump can pull up to 80A. Are you providing the power directly from the PMU? According to the ECU Masters PMU documentation, you're getting the following amperage available.
    10 x 25A(cont.), 6 x 15A(cont.) with overcurrent and overheating protection. Outputs may be paired to increase continuous current capability. Current and voltage is measured for each output
    Are you giving it enough whatyamacallit's to supply 80A of current?

    Not sure what pump that is... but the MR2 pump that people run in PRO1/2.. they have them turned up for more assist. They take up to 150amps. That pump might have a similar option to turn it up.

    I used the Volvo EPS (C30) electric power pump. I saw you on TH-cam.
    It's too heavy to operate the self-counter.
    I don't think there's a problem with normal driving. The steering is under a lot of load, or each job is heavily operated, and when it rotates in reverse, it locks every momentarily applied.
    Is there a solution to this problem? Is the motor performance bad?

    That’s a diesel pump which is ecu driven. Need a twr ts astra pump and also putting it in the boot will cause pressure drops and delay In the steering when you first pull the wheel on initiation. Also the belt set up is not ideal. Routing it with the smaller belt means you have lost 2/3 of the belt wrap on the Front pulley. Best way is buy a pulley for a vf commodore from Australia. They have a pulley and bracket that bolts straight onto the bolts where the alternator was and it’s about $50. Then you can still have full wrap around the bottom and will have less chance of belt slip under revs. I have all the gm part numbers for the pulley and bracket if u need them.

    I know this video is 4 years old, but that pump runs in a default RPM setting when it doesnt have a PWM controller to vary the speed. You can adjust the speed of the pump, thus the pressure/flow and make the steering far easier.

  • @audiogamer

    To be accurate, this is an electric-powered hydraulic pump, replacing the mechanically powered hydraulic pump fitted as standard on the LS engine. Electric power steering is something different, where there is no hydraulic system, and is used on many cars.

      I would suggest getting a 2002-2003 but preferably a 2002. The fuel pump is easier to access and it has the LS6 block, and the stronger diffs, while having the best syncros for the C5. Just be sure to have the clutch life checked and lookout for the Torque tube bushing. Other than that just standard C5 stuff. Great car and really needs very little.

    What about running a power steering assist from a toyota yaris, in where you remove all the hydraulics out of your system and use an electric on the actual steering shaft. You might need to get a new non-power steering rack n pinion. All you do is cut section off on your steering shaft under the dash and weld in splines to it to run the yaris electrical motor assist.
