Ideally tidying up, sheculing my day, making my morning tea and moisturizing my skin. Lately I've been putting off those last two tho

Due to the recent passing of my mother - I'm really trying to hone in on my morning routine. I want to find something I can stick to and something that I can have complete control of in this uncertain world. Ideally, I would love to wake up take my dog for a walk, make my coffee and sit down to write my tasks/priorities for the day in this journal (I currently just use stickie notes from work). I would love to be able to keep track of thoughts I have during the day as well to really free up some brain space. I need a good morning routine since the morning is my time. My wife likes to sleep in so the morning in just me and my pup to think and set our day up for success.

My job ended and the quarantine began and i was feeling ungrounded, so I started journaling. One of the great joys of not working is waking up when i wake up-my routine includes moving, journaling and knitting. A quiet gentle start to the day. A huge contrast to the rush rush rush of my past. Thanks Matt, I love your channel.

The most impactful thing I learned from this is that I can do the same thing every day, no matter what time I get up.
Second most impactful is not being frustrated when things don’t go to plan and allowing it to ruin my morning/day.

you have no idea how much this video has made me feel!!! I have been trying to build a strong routine for over a year! and everything I tried and all the youtube videos I saw nothing stuck. Ive been attempting to fall under this method for awhile " putting my energy into what matters" and I feel this video really answered so many of my doubts and insecurities as both a parent and an individual. thank you for the content.

Two days in a row I've watched a video that has one tweak and it totally changes my perspective! It doesn't matter what time you wake up, it matters what you do. I've been beating myself up because I can't get myselft to wake up really early and then setting myself up with negative thoughts all day. Tomorrow morning I'm going to wake up when it feels natural and be intentional. :)

Thanks Matt, love your channel. Something that gets less focus with the development of daily routines is that they conserve energy, namely a phenomenon called "decision fatigue". Our energy allows us to make only so many decisions before we tire out. Routines conserve energy along with many other benefits. This is a rich topic to discuss, decision fatigue.

My routine has definitely changed since the pandemic. I now have time for a daily workout, and I spend time every day on personal development. I watch videos, read books, and then plan an element of self-improvement to work on daily and weekly. Coffee and feeding the dog are the other big items for me. That takes up my morning and sets my day up for success.

    4:45 - Dress to Toe
    5:00 - Prayer & Devotion
    5:45 - Goals/FFP/Control Journal
    6:00 - Book/PP/YT-PU90DJS
    7:45 - Travel to work

My ideal morning routine is journaling, going for a short walk, praying, and actually sitting down to eat breakfast at the table (that last part is tricky for me). Thanks for the great simple template and for taking the pressure off. I tried the miracle morning but couldn’t sustain it and have kind of “given up” on a morning routine because I felt like I couldn’t commit to that level of intensity anymore.

Interesting that just as I'm looking for inspiration for my new morning routine I find this video! So far what I've got planned for the new morning routine:
    1. Meditate (Minimum of 5 minutes)
    2. Exercise (Minimum of 7 minutes)
    3. Morning Cold Shower
    4. Journal + Day Planning (Minimum of 10 minutes)
Still debating though whether I should continue bullet journaling or try some other form of journaling.
    Thanks for the video, Matt!

My first things in the morning are to deep breathe, meditate and affirm, then a few minutes of stretching to wake up, followed by a walk with my dog or a mini trampoline jump. Then I journal any thoughts or ideas before starting into the To Do list for the day. Oh yes, and a cup of coffee is a very important part of my morning routine/ritual and making my bed.

It does not take me long to complicate my morning routine with the addition of tasks that i "ought" to do first thing in the morning. Thanks for the reminder to simplify down to basic 3 of journal; movement; meditate. 1. Take morning meds that are to be taken on an empty stomach. 2. Journal 3. Walk my 250 steps before the first hour evaporates. 3. Meditate 10 minutes, usually with Calm app.

    Great video, Matt!
My morning routine is quite similar. I start with some meditation time, move to a workout, and after my shower I spend some time reading. In all, it takes about an hour. I started the routine about 3 weeks ago and it's been great!
I appreciate your thoughts and the end of the video, that you can't let a hiccup throw you off though. Taking time to reset expectations is key, in my mind, to making your day great!

Hi Matt. Another great video. About 6 years ago I decided to get my life back on track. I was overweight, major lack of energy, and very unorganized and feeling rushed all the time. I decided to develop a morning routine along with loosing weight and getting my life together. Here is my routine:
    Up at 6am
    Take care of the dog
    Journal
    Plan my day/week
Learn something new from either a book or TH-cam clip
7am run 4 miles six days a week with the dog
    8am get ready for work
It’s a great feeling to have control. Thanks for making these great videos.
Oh and by the way...my routine helped me go from 225 pounds to 173. 🙂

My wife is a night owl and I’m an early riser. Rough to get a good rhythm for the both of us.

Great video! Your comments inspire me to consider some important adjustments.
Before Covid, my routine consisted of waking at 5:30 am, walking the dog, devotions/prayer, and journaling the day. I typically use my journal more as a planner, however I'd like to develop a habit of actually journaling ideas, thoughts and emotions.

I have been journaling in a notebook - just brain dump. It’s great. But I looking to be more organized and productivity. Though, frankly, overwhelmed by seeing other peoples “bujo” expansiveness.
Also, my goal is to start my day with better focus, clarity, and peace. So I can handle what ever gets thrown at me in a day. Avoiding overwhelm and burnout.

Since lockdown I have been able to fit in a morning routine which gives me an hour or so before the rest of the family wake up. I love it and it has really helped get me through the day having set my intentions for that day. First I feed the chickens whilst the kettle boils for my cup of tea. I meditate, track my goals, say my affirmations, visualise my day ahead and how I'm going to show up for me and my family. I then journal and read a chapter of my current self-development book. I love it and think it's really helped.
I'd like to add in some stretching and yoga as I struggle to incorporate that for reasons unknown to me!
    Thanks for the video Matt.

Hey Matt, this is so good to hear! I am often way to attached to my morning routine and feel like my day is shot when I miss it or it gets interrupted. But this is exactly how I don’t want to live or the person I want to be. I want to be flexible and not have my joy be based on circumstances. So am trying to learn and appreciate whatever I learn from the morning I end up having and not getting upset if it doesn’t go according to plan. The whole goal of a morning routine is for me to grow, not just go through a certain set of actions. Thanks for all your content Matt, keep up the great work!

    Ideal morning routine:
    1. Go for a walk with my son(11) while practicing focus and mindfulness(he has ADD so being present is an issue for him).
    2. Devotions and prayer
    3. Journal
    4. Shower, get dressed and actually not rush to work!! LOL
We’ll do it together until he forms the habit and can do it on his own.
Thanks for this video. Very useful.

What I’m aiming for is to be presentable (People in the family run a business so customers and employees are in and out), have meditated, journaled, exercised, and eaten breakfast. Doesn’t always happen. After watching this video I’m thinking I need to simplify it. I’d be more likely to start the day off right if I only had three things I did right after waking up. First step, tomorrow is to bullet journal first thing. Followed by exercise.

Pre-corona: I would go to gym for 5am HIIT class 3-4 days a week and head to work. It was nice to have that done so I could transition to family and Army Reserve duties in the evening. Post-corona: I was able to get my teenage daughter involved in a home workout we do together. I don't get up super early since doing a workout at home would wake up everyone, but we are able to get it done some time in the evening.

I only start any sort of productive work at 11 a.m. Before that, I would have a proper breakfast while catching up with things that matter to me. For now, it’s general updates of the COVID-19 situation. Of course I have to pick a trusted, level-headed source in order not to be upset first thing in the morning. After that I’ll do some quick journalling and write a few tasks I want to accomplish for the day.

My Mourning Routine. Expectation vs Reality.
    Expectation
    1. Wake up at 6
    2. Down some water, put coffee on.
    3. Attack the early morning creative task - usually writing something - with coffee
    4. Pray
    5. Get daughter from her room, play game and prepare breakfast.
    6. Write journal in Day One when app prompts me.
    Reality.
    1. Wake up at 6
    2. Down water and put coffee on.
    3. Start morning tasks and then hear my daughter wake up.
Would love to add some exercises/moving body in but I haven't worked out anything that really works for me at the moment.

I've been doing this routine on and off for about a year now, and its heavily influenced by the Stoics (which sounds pretentious, but hey, you asked).
-Wake up, shower, eat, ideally under 30m but that's usually too stringent.
-Listen to a podcast while I eat breakfast
-Because of COVID I've been going for walks when I would normally stay home to be ready to leave for school
-Halfway through the walk I plop down on a bench and pull out my journal to briefly reflect on yesterday, do a memento mori exercise, read a short section from whatever book I've selected for morning studying, think about the challenges in the day ahead, think about what small change is going to help me the most.'
-Fill out a couple of gratitudes
    -Meditate (usually)
-Walk back home and start working
Personally I can't recommend it unless you A) have the exact same needs in a given day and B) have 2 hours at your disposal to do a morning walk and routine at the same time.
    Love the video!

My morning routine of exercise and planning my day usually starts after my husband and daughter are gone for the day. So corona has it completely messed up. Maybe I should switch it to before they wake up... Thanks for the tips!

Thanks and I think this is really helpful. I get very frustrated when people try to tell you that you have to get up early to be successful. What works for one person may not work for you. I do appreciate the value of a starting ritual, though. Tea for me! Journaling or casual low-stakes writing can also be a great way to get started in a writing session. It's like warming up before a run.

Thanks for this video, Matt! My ideal morning routine is:
    1. Move: Stretching as I get up
    2. Connect my senses to the world: drink a glass of water, breathe fresh air from outdoors and listen to the birds
    3. BuJo: write my focus for the day

Excellently produced video! Listening to your calm voice would be a good start to a good morning routine 😉... right now my focus is more a establishing an evening routine due to my prolonged insomnia, maybe I should consider a bracket-approach (shift some of my current evening activities to the morning like the task planning, but I still want to keep my journaling at the end of the day). I definitely have the temptation to want to jump directly into action after waking up, even if its only breakfast... saw you drinking your coffee during a meditative phase, maybe that’s something I should try instead to bring my body and soul steadily up to speed.

I do need to improve my routine, at the moment the only thing I do without fail is 10 min meditation with Headspace, and make a coffee. I need to remember to do something physical like stretching and also I want to add journaling in there too.

My ideal routine typically involves: planning/journaling for the day, a workout, and 10-15 min of house work especially while working from home. I for one have gotten into the trap of "having" to wake up early to be productive. I have to remember it's not necessarily when I wake up rather than what do I do when I wake up.

Hi matt, some helpful points in your video as always, some and take and try some I dont. I'm 4 years into bullet journaling and this has coincided with leadership roles I have taken on, so appreciate the organisation. I'm keen to get my mornings kicking add would love to use the full focus planner to plan my morning routines and see if I stick to them.

I'd love to start my day with meditation and journaling, and then a brisk walk before the day really starts. And without being sidetracked by the phone (that's the real challenge...). Love the Focus On This podcast from the people at Full Focus Planner (not using the planner though, yet...)

I take about 5min to get out of bed after waking up naturally or with my alarm to head to the kitchen and grab water or coffee. On an ideal morning I do a quick 15ish Min workout, skincare and shower, grab breakfast and chat a little bit with my partner before starting my day. On a quick morning it’s all about my skincare, shower, and morning convo with my partner.
