Hyuna unfortunately was so sexualized in her younger years. Of course she is confident, she loves speaking about any subject openly but it clearly was put to her
I remember watching her in a tv show called invisible youth were she was the youngest and very innocent to later on be so sexualized and naughty up to this day lol
It definitely was Hyuna even said back then that she wants people to see her as cute not sexy. Honestly I think the sexy image really messed with her confidence and she truly didn’t embrace it until later on in her career.
Look at the change in concepts, with her first release under P Nation. Flower Shower was sassy, fun, and fresh, but not overtly "sexy". I think Hyuna had enough of her old image, and just wanted a change.
M C well with i’m not cool it’s very much different lol, i don’t think she wants to change, if she did she wouldn’t have resigned with cube knowing she would be given sexy concepts again
The fact that Hyuna built Cube from the Ground Up and got kicked out for dating will always be a shock to me because if it weren't for her Cube would not be where it is today
Especially because hyuna has stated that cube encouraged their idols to date behind closed doors. Cube also heavily emphasized romantic/sexual tension of Trouble Maker because the controversy made them money. Cube KNEW they were dating and likely encouraged it, but just got mad that hyuna confirmed it on her own.
It was really memorable. 2ne1 fans blackjacks and SNSD's fans Sones were going all out to make their faves win that music show trophy... It was so tense and hyped that even bystanders couldn't help but stop and watch how it'll end. But at the last minute, when all 3 groups were battling it out for first place, 4minute like a dark horse appeared and won 😂😂
the fact that cube sucks so hard that we’re getting a whole series on their sins 😭 i can’t wait for you to drag them for what they’ve done to clc. also if you need any info for the clc segment i’m definitely willing to help!
After Cube screwed over CLC at every opportunity I decided I am never supporting another of Cube's groups ever again. They will not get a single penny more of my money.
as a 4minute stan, it's so nice to see someone actually acknowledging how poorly cube treated the girls instead of just making a whole video shitting on hyuna and claiming it to all be her fault
Pointing the finger at HyunA is so low... I mean, she herself was thrown under the bus with Dawn after the relationship reveal... I'm glad they both moved on under a company that actually seems to value them not just as artists, but also as people. I only wish all the 4Minute girls reunite at least to clear misunderstandings...
I've been a 4Nia since 2010 (they were the ones who really got me hooked on Kpop at the time) and it always pained me to see how 4Minute were treated, in addition to arising tension between the members - mainly towards HyunA, even though it wasn't entirely her fault. Cube pushed her too much and out of all the members, SHE was the one member who was oversexualized and people called her a "slut" and a "whore." On a side note, I've always had a love and great appreciation for ALL the members - baby leader Jihyun, Gayoon, Jiyoon, and Sohyun. The girls all deserved so much better, but they will always be my Queens and ultimate female bias group. I can only hope for the day in which a reunion with all of them together can become a reality.
Being a CLC fan, I know how bad this company is. Wish 4MINUTE was still with us, they didn’t deserve this. And HyunA’s love for both 4MINUTE members and CLC members show how amazing she is. CUBE is the only one to blame
@@jeremiahyoungblood6943 yeah i mean cube already kicked soojin.. one of the most popular member. and sure bullying is never good but it was never even confirmed she bullied
Back in 2009 Jiyoon was set to debut right after HyunA in 2010 (Hyuna in January and Jiyoon later that same year) but it kept being postponed and she never actually released a solo until she left Cube. While most groups wait a couple of years before having a member release a solo, HyunA released a solo when the group wasn't even 7 months old, it was clearly too early and HyunA was overworked, she fainted and got hospitalized in 2013 during the WYN promotions bc of how overworked she was.
gidle does not owe anything to cube, they owe it to themselves and their talent and their success comes from their amazing way of working together and knowing how to take advantage of what they have
Love the video but i have a little bit of correction: The 2018 Hyuna-E'dawn incident started like this: They were seen very close behind the scenes and people started acusing Hyuna of being sexually innapropiate towards E'dawn and the hate started again. Then, E'dawn asked Pentagon members if they were ok with him and hyuna going public, and all of them gave their blessings (since they already knew about their relationship, even to the point they secretly started making fun of him xD). After E'dawn got pentagon's members blessing, that's when BOTH Hyuna and E'dawn went to a local magazine or publisher or whatever it was, and THEY did a interview where they revealed everything; and that's the article Hyuna shared on her instagram. She did not do this alone, she didn't went against Cube's decisions since nobody communicated with them or vice-versa. But I'm telling you this bc I've seen a lot of people blaming Hyuna for "destroying" pentagon bc she "revealed everything", when that's not the case: both of them did it and with pentagon members knowing it. Also, this next part is not a correction only additional information that i think it's very funny: before Hyuna left Cube, she wrote a letter and send it to them. In that letter she said how she tried to contact with the company but they basically ghosted her and no clear answer was given to her. So she basically threatened them by saying that if they don't give her an answer untill 15th of october she would go to the press and reveal her side of the story. What a coincidence that Cube gave her the answer on the 15th of october. It's pretty funny since a lot of fans think she was going to talk about her contract, 4minute disbandment and everything shady that cube did for the last decade, LOL. She really had the power there 😂
I’m SO SO glad I saw this. I’ve been blaming Hyuna for Dawn being kicked out of Pentagon every since I heard this story. I was seriously mad about it lol. Thank you for this comment, this is info I did not know about.💖
@@VampyTori hey! i'm glad you saw it too haha, and that's ok... people kinda twisted it a little bit or didn't know about the whole thing and it made hyuna looked worse than ever. With the information people was saying yes, she did seem selfish but once you know it wasn't her alone and that edawn also took part of it and that pentagon members also knew they were going public, the story changes... it's really sad what happened but the truly victims here are cube's artists. The company should have supported hyuna and dawn even if they didn't know about their relationship, that doesn't matter. They should have protected them, not go against them.
Thanks for this. I hate it when people blame Hyuna or Dawn for "ruining" Pentagon. They all knew, Universe kinda suspected (that drawing Wooseok made of Dawn's ideal woman on PTG Maker looked exactly like Hyuna), members were fine with it, but CUBE went mad that they went public without talking to them and yeah. That's not on Hyuna, Dawn, or Pentagon.
One interview I remember vividly was when Jiyoon was asked why she and the other members didn't do many variety shows. She said that Cube told them that they were going for the "luxury concept" like YG, and that that's why they weren't sent on those shows. She said that in a very incredulous tone. Hyuna did get to go on some shows though I remember. I also remember that Sohyun was invited to join Invincible Youth too, but Cube turned down the offer for her. This was a good video covering 4minute. As a 4nia, I've found a lot of videos about them sorely lacking. Cube is the one to blame. I don't really like that there's so many people that weren't fans of them that either make jihyun, jiyoon, gayoon, and sohyun out to be jealous meanies, or hyuna to be a selfish person. The only side to take is that Cube is terrible. You can like them all. lol.
there are problems with troublemaker (ie: hyuna's age at the debut) but i find it so weird how the public protests and yells about two people doing sexually suggestive dances together or idols dating but are totalllllly fine when a group does a sexy concept that they can objectify for themselves
@@eifiethemeep it's a song park ji yoon and it's very provocative and honestly just flat out weird to be sung by teens who just turned 18 lmfao look up the lyrics
Personally I wouldn't say tension, if it were me in the other members shoes I'd feel somewhat jealous and or unneeded. If that makes sense, like it's supposed to be a group yet all these big opportunities are all centered around one member only plus popularity wise said member outshines everyone else.
If I remember correctly, I think there was some video pre-debut where the execs explicitly admitted it was "hyuna's group", or at least that was the code name used before their debut. Favoritism in kpop is really bad, but it was so blatant with Cube. Cube is especially good at finding their idols expendable, and every single one of their business decisions prove they're trash. I love 4minute and hope they eventually reunite. PS I love your videos! Can you please do one on JTune Camp and how they failed MBLAQ and Two-X?
they were called hyuna's group bc gidle was really close with hyuna lol their relationship is actually cute since most of the time seniors dont care for trainees who havent debuted but hyuna wasnt like that with gidle
yes idle is so favored that cube kept delaying their debut to the point where most of the girls were in their 20s so soyeon decided to write their debut song, gave them no promo besides dancing on the street once, debut photoshoot in front of garbage cans, selling 200 albums on their debut day... so privileged wow
Omg that was in the early days cube had no idea gidle was gonna be so successful.. also keep in my mind the they had to accept to soyeons song to be the debut song and atleast the have the rights to produce and write their own music. But now that cube knows gidle is the money maker the dump the other groups in dungeon and focus on gidle only (I'm scared what will happen to lightsum) And ofc no doubt gidle is freaking amazing and officially not their fault they deserves it and soyeon is great producer and all.. but my point is why debuted another group if your focus on 1 only.. and clc has the potential to write and produce as for yeeun but not giving the opportunity to do it apart of her own raps.
You do realise that just because they didn't believe that much in the group at first, that doesn't mean that they aren't prioritising the group to the detriment of other groups now, right? The company’s focus has clearly changed to be on gidle, not giving their other groups the same attention and care. I'm not saying it's the fault of the girls, they are not to blame for the way the company do things, but that doesn't mean we can't point out that it's harming the other groups under the company.
As someone who had been following Hyuna since her Wonder Girls days and 4minute since before their debut, Cube has solidified itself as one of the worst examples of buisnesses I've ever seen. The girls themselves had huge following, huge potential, did well on the charts, had almost no scandals (that were caused by them and not the company), their albums were well produced, written and made. Cube screwed them. They completely failed to connect the group to the public through variety shows and individual promotions (minus some minor ads and Jiyoon's horrendous Unpretty Rapstar thing), and just let the group waste away on unsteady promotions - 4minute was always an afterthought for them. They had decided all four girls minus Hyuna were deadweight and they cut them, that's the truth of it. And it's awful and they truly ruined the careers of one of the best groups in kpop just out of their sheer inability to be a business, especially after they changed CEOs back in 2011/2012. It's a fucking embarassment and the quicker they go bankrupt, the better.
is it favoritism if your group (gidle) doesn’t ever flop? cube literally didnt give gidle a debut song. soyeon said she had to write and produce that shit and she still got insulted for that shit by cube officials. they also had a debut with zero budget.
the album photoshoot aren't even in a decent place ... i mean a plastic bag on the wall and trash cans to the side? really? If it weren't for soyeon writing the songs and they've done well since then ... Cube surely would have left them in the basement. But hey! they have "favoritism" 🙄
@@jeondsoyeon5489 exactly it’s so obvious cube doesnt care about any of their idols groups and exploits them. it’s annoying to see gidle always be accused of favoritism just because they are one of their most popular groups
@@jinnisbae7832 cube should never give idle a title track then they will lose their identity as a self produced group. Minnie and yuqi are the only ones at this time I’m willing to have a title track from
4Minute introduced me into K-Pop and when they disbanded, I was shocked and I cried. I always hated it when people named Hyuna as their bias and that people only liked Hyuna. I always blamed Cube on their disbandment, but the fact that Cube never gave the 4 members a chance to resign... I have list severe respect for the company. Cube really ruined 4Minute by keeping Hyuna as their milking cow 😭😭😭😭😭
I really like that you mentioned how it was iHQ's involvement that caused a downturn in the company. I remember before the merger 4minute had a more equal distribution of support, unlike the later more recent years, Hyuna wasn't always the center in dance positions, photoshoots, or MVs. The original CEO was cared for by the artists, he has ASL and when the ice bucket challenge first went viral they were one of the first idols to do the challenge and show their support. When iHQ came in they not only changed leadership they changed a lot of the higher-ups as well and it caused a lot of the bad change we see today
@@gerison320 Jihyun barely got lines either way. The only songs I can think of where she got a lot of lines was 'Mirror Mirror' and the B-side of Hate (I forgot what it was called).
(G)I-dle doesn't have favouritism. Cube barely manages them, making the girls do everything themselves from writing their own music to helping make their own Choreography. And if it's money then why shouldn't (G)I-dle get money when 1) they the ones that bring most profit 2) save money in other areas such as writing and producing
the favoritism with idle is literally non-existent... cube has been capitalizing so much off of soyeon's self production that they restrict her from going to vacations and breaks just to finish and improve songs
their debut was kept on being delayed until soyeon stepped up to write and compose something and still it was filmed in a warehouse and the bg of their concept pictures were literally pieces of plastic taped to a wall
And where exactly is the so called "favoritism" of gidle? In them getting comebacks twice a year- comebacks they wrote, composed and produced with the smallest amount of help, with concepts they themselves created and worked on? Or the budget they gained by being the best selling artist under cube?
I feel so bad for Hyuna, to have all of your friends turn their backs on you based on a decision that she didn't even make. :^( Series and videos like this show just how chaotic and evil the industry is.
when a member from a group starts debuting solo and in so many project, collabs etc. just one or twi years after a groups debut, usually isn't a good sign the first couple of years for a group a critical and just one member going by herself so many times shows that the company is focused on her and not the groups as a whole
But in the case of idle its literally just their songwriting members deciding to release the music they wrote (soyeon AND yuqi). Its not cube doing anything at all
@@skyofwar123 Aside from Soyeon tho, who already debuted before as a solo artist before gidle, Yuqi had to wait for 3 years before she can go solo. OP is correct that the first and second year are very crucial to a group and having a solo debut within a year is not a god decision but her idea only stands when only a member gets to be promoted. With the case of Gidle, all the members got individual activities. Yuqi, Minnie, Shuhua and Soojin had so much exposure in order to balance the group identity. Gidle transitioned from being called Soyeon's group to just Gidle.
Wow what a ludicrous take. How are idle favored when they have written and produced everything since debut, cube has given them NOTHING. They were lucky to find success with their debut song or they would be in a shit situation like the rest of their groups. Just hating on them because they're successful at this point. Soyeon couldn't even go on holiday with the rest of her members because cube said they didn't like the music she gave them so she had to write more music while the rest of the group vacationed.
Since people are saying Idle is only able to survive cube because of their self-production, can you also do a video about Pledis as well? Similar to Idle, the only reason Seventeen isn't screwed by Pledis is because they are self-produced so that Pledis can't miss manage them.
“the favoritism of idle” at least inform urself before spreading misinformation… bc of those comments of yours they are always on the hate focus, first if it wasn’t for soyeon they wouldn’t have debuted bc cube DIDNT make any song to (G)I-DLE, then “LATATA” produce and wrote by Soyeon, the mv with a very low budget on a warehouse and a garage, their debut photoshoot on the street with garbage… and more things i could tell… not to mention Soyeon does everything and now adding Minnie and Yuqi as producers and writers. (G)I-DLE’s success is for sure not for Cube favoritism!!! Im tired of some of u throwing hate for being success by their own!
That favouritism of idle is not hitting. They are successful so they are privileged? All that success came from members and cube did sht. Privileged and idle don't sit on the same table.
In cube it is a privilege to really have a comeback and that the company accepts it and promotes it, they are not difficult to understand. Idle girls work and deserve that treatment, but there is talk of favoritism because the other cube groups do not receive that treatment, even btob a while ago, who were a pillar for them. yk???
@@clcsupremacy9875 there is no treatment that is the point. I am not disregarding any other grp but talking abt cube playing favourites. cube was and will never do favs. Gidle is cubes biggest breadwinners . Every time auditions for KPOP entertainments open in my area, I go to this channel to research first Thank you for bringing issues like these to light and helping us understand entertainments and the KPOP industry better
i cry every time i hear/read something about this, they were all i cared about back in the day, i was 8 when i heard hyuna for the first time (bubble pop), and i got so invested into 4minute, i still remember the day i got to know they disbanded, i was so confused and hurt, queens deserved better
It makes me so sad that 4minute was treated like this. These women have done huge things for kpop as a group and as individual artists. I hope they can heal and become friends as time goes by. Please do a video like this about 2NE1!
"The favoritism of gidle" girl what? Most 4th gen artists got their popularity from their company or notably because of a sister or brother group that is popular, gidle didnt get any of that, they gained popularity due to soyeon and not cube. SO THANK YOU SOYEON FOR MAKING (G)I-DLE POSSIBLE!
No one could’ve predicted HyunA’s major popularity. Besides, the narrator said something smart, she said wherever HyunA went, money follows. So, the public is what obsessed over HyunA. No one could’ve known that. Still not an excuse for how CUBE treated 4MINUTE. But also keep in mind, during CRAZY & HATE era, the comeback or promotions wasn’t centered around HyunA like before. The group exploded on popularity, due to ALL 5 members talents. Jihyun, was getting know for her visuals and vocals. Jiyoon was being labeled a REAL badass rapper with extreme stage presence. Sohyun for her dancing skills and being on par with HyunA’s charisma and sexiness. And Gayoon for her visuals and god-like vocals. So, during that time, HyunA’s popularity was irrelevant to everyone.
oh my god, I’m so glad you’re back. can’t wait for the rest of the parts of this, as a cheshire I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re really crossed the line of being even vaguely acceptable
Ceshires know how disgusting cube is, and how badly they treat CLC for not being overnight successes when they haven't put barely anything in to promoting then
as a cheshire the blatant contempt cube has shown towards clc is shocking. it’s not even a case of incompetent management, it’s like they actually have it in for the girls. they won’t even let sorn go home to her family despite openly admitting they aren’t giving clc any more activities.
Update: Hyunseung left Cube and redebuted with the stage name Able Members Huiyeon and Jian, the youngest members of Lightsum, are no longer part of the group. Cube made the official announcement that Lightsum will reorganize as 6-members and they didn't mention what they'll do with the two members that left
I don't agree with the part that IHQ is all responsible for the disbandment and that Hyuna is all innocent. Just hear me out. We all know that competition in kpop is tough. Not just between groups but between members too. Everyone wants to shine and is doing his best to be given the spotlight. Hyuna is a charismatic performer, released bop after bop and was making hella money for Cube. Being pushed from Cube (solos, promotions, CFs, etc.) I think created tension in the group long before the disbandment. People want to be appreciated, even more when they work hard for it. I bet being in Hyuna's shadow wasn't the dream of the other girls and that's why they unfollowed her and don't keep in contact with her anymore. I think that Hyuna, already knowing how the industry works, knew that this was coming. And she just made a career for herself, not caring about the others. That's why I'm saying she's not fully "innocent". I know that companies can be hella controlling, but please, idols have brains and can make some decisions for themselves too. If you say that "Oh, poor Hyuna, she didn't know what was coming, she's a victim of the cruel management" - well, mate, I'll have to disagree with that one. She CHOOSE to stay with Cube, let's not forget that. And let me get this straight - I'm not saying that what IHQ/Cube did to the other girls was good. And I'm not saying that Cube and Hyuna planned it to be that way. But, please, stop with the narrative that the disbandment of 4Minute is all a nasty management game and that Hyuna didn't know what she was doing. She's a grown ass person with a head on her shoulders. Maybe she didn't know that the company didn't speak to the other members and basically kicked them out, but I think that she knew that she was the first member that Cube wanted to keep.
Ji Hyun took it the hardest because she felt incompetent as the leader of the group. It makes me so sad because every 4nia felt that Hate was Jihyun's era and she was shining the brightest. Due to all of these events, 4nias are probably the most spiteful fandom out there now albeit it finally died but I'll never forget when the disbandment happened. It marked the day that my love for kpop died :/ I just couldn't find a new group were I genuinely loved all the members and music like I did for 4Minute. I hope to see the day they can all come back together and maybe even release a proper goodbye song to the fans. I just know that if they kept 4Minute, their success would be close to the likes of Blackpink and G-idle because lets be real, 4Minute and 2Ne1 are the blueprints for G-idle and Blackpink.
Sometimes, I wonder what would happened if Jihyun had asked for another member to take on the position of Leader (like Seunghee did in CLC, she was Leader for a year, and Seungyeon took on the job since then). Who do you think would have been made Leader-? I bet either Gayoon or Jiyoon.
i really doubt Hyuna outed herself and Hyojong on purpose to get out of the contract. That would be a horrible thing to do to him, considering Pentagon was finally getting hype and literally had the summer song of the year (with the biggest help being from hyojong himself).
right like, everything that idle is because the girls did it themselves, CUBE does the bare minimum for them and the girls (mostly soyeon) has to make up for their slack
No one said that cube’s behaviour is idle’s fault, people think they’re favoured by the company because they have the opportunity to write and produce things that were denied to other girl groups under cube But it just seems dumb that everyone focuses on idle and not the other artists under cube but I digress
@@naimaahmed9730 yeeun literally produces for clc sometimes... the other members never showed that they wanted to write or produce anything so how are you sure that cube isn’t letting them
4Minute was my favorite group in middle school, and I did get into 4Minute through HyunA. It took me time to learn the rest of Gayoon, Sohyun, Jiyoon, and Jihyuns info and names, but I love all 5 members so much. CUBE did them so dirty leaving them out to dry because they weren’t “profitable”. I’m glad the girls all are happy now and I manifest a 4Minute reunion one day 😩
4minute was my first favourite group ten years ago, and I have been following all of their careers ever since. It hurts to see how much they went through, specially all the pressure put onto hyuna and the whole contradiction that were the concepts they made her promote vs the way she was treated when she ended up being in an actual romantic relationship. I'm happy she's happy nowadays and I hope that all the members get to get together again in their own terms.
Nice video! Just wanted to mention that "favoritism" towards (G)I-DLE doesn't exist, here's great comments that point that out I understand that it's mostly your opinion but that would be great if you make more thorough research on the matter for next vid
you can prove that cube ent is so bad without saying that idle is cubes favorite because we all know they're self produced and is successful (and of course they bring the most profit, so why not use the money gidle brought for GIDLE?) also their debut keep being delayed because cube isn't giving them a debut song that soyeon have to produce their own debut song. they also have low budget debut and just had good mvs because they gained popularity (and brought money to the company) :// ik cube sucks because they can't still promote idle (esp shuhua) and other cube groups but no need to say they are favored just because they're doing good.
it's definitely favoritism. no matter who brings in the most money, the people in charge of management should still be giving others groups and idols opportunities. CLC is doing well too, and so is Pentagon. they still don't get what (G)Idle gets. clearly, it's favoritism. :/
No one is trying to blame the girls, or say that they don't deserve the opportunities they get or thay they didn't work hard on their own to become successful, but it's only right to point out that the other groups deserve the same opportunities and the same care and promotions. If this issue isn't adressed, the second Cube deem another group to be more profitable that Gidle, it's Gidle that is going to be cast aside and no longer get those opportunities they get now. It's clear Cube can't handle as many groups as they have and acting as if Gidle doesn't get favoured right now is just going to be detrimental to the girls in the long run.
@@_twinklesprinkle cube doesn't even promote gidle that much 😭 and compared to the groups you mentioned, gidle is just more popular domestically and internationally despite being the youngest group (and rushed debut) before lightsum debuted and and have high brand reputation ranking. they just get more opportunities because the industry wants them, not because cube is pushing them. how is that favoritism?
@@loevtrio because other agencies don't follow that same pattern? groups under other agencies, profitable or still recieve more from their agencies. it's favoritism. I'd know since I dealt with it as a kid in many cases.
@@_twinklesprinkle and what agencies can you example? that's just how business works, the industry will give more opportunities to more popular groups since it have more profits. and can you list down what is cube giving to gidle since they are "favored" 🤨
(G)-idle is continuing the process of groups having to create and produce their own content DIY style, then having to battle the company for reimbursement and release. A so-called PRODUCTION COMPANY, whose very purpose is producing content is cheaping out, paying executives instead of, you know, making stuff! This is nothing new, though usually reserved for groups that are not the label's favorite, like f(x) under SM. If Amber hadn't basically handed them a full MV, for "All Mine", f(x) would have had NOTHING after "4 Walls". I guess Cube has no favorites, they treat everyone equally badly.
I think Favoritism is not a good word to be associated with IDLE, as it has a negative connotation and non-existent in IDLE's career. I can only hope the OP can make a follow-up video regarding IDLE that is backed with research to validate any claims made, without entering the bandwagon of unessesary h8te IDLE is experiencing.
If you compare it with other groups, yes, the handling of cube with idle would be favoritism (I am not saying that with it they bring good things, since that should bring a lot of pressure) but not in the group itself, if not in soyeon, cube saw who is someone who can make you easy money without any effort after their debut hit with idle. And calling a group the favorite is not necessarily out of hatred, it is normal for companies to have a favorite group or a favorite member, as in the case of heejin in loona.
@@clcsupremacy9875 I agree with you that there is some degree of push by CUBE to artists who show great promise and popularity that are worth investing. The issue here is that OP used the word "favoritism" to describe the status of IDLE, as it denoted that IDLE received special preferential treatment in the course of their careers that undermines other groups, which is untrue. It is a fact that the groups 4Minute, Beast, and CLC suffered mistreatment and mismanagement by CUBE under iHQ. At the same time, it is important to take note that it was Cube under iHQ that IDLE debuted in 2018 when they had a lackluster debut promotions, and continued this kind of promotions during 2018-2019 that is no different with the promotions of other groups under Cube. IF IDLE INDEED received special and unfair preferential treatment, they should have a bigger scope in popularity comparable to Big 4 groups and a bigger fanbase, and steady provisions of songs, that is solely credited to the efforts of Cube. But that is not the case. The popularity of IDLE is credited to them alone, with their self-produced music and individuality and charms of the members (together with the usual lackluster and sub-par promotions from Cube) Honestly, promotions of Cube under VT Cosmetics has no significant difference to that of Cube under iHQ, but there are still some improvements. Furthermore, Cube under VT are providing solo activities and comebacks, and brand deals not just for IDLE but for other groups, as well as strengthening artists protection. It is a fact that Soyeon is the center of IDLE, but even now she is not the most popular member, and each member has separate solo activities and brand deals that capitalizes the popularity of each member. To summarize, "favoritism" is really an inappropriate word to describe the career of IDLE.
@@clcsupremacy9875 They definitely did not have favoritsm, just look up the definition of the word. They did not get any special treatment from Cube, letting Soyeon take command with their debut was definitely a boom or bust moment. Cube could not even give them a title track so when Soyeon decided to do it herself they allowed it. If Latata did not take off, we won't be talking about Gidle today. Cube would have shoved them in the sidelines. Cube is very profit-oriented. You get their support if you make money. Gidle was not really given any favoritism, when they made money for the company they improved the support. Would you define that as favoritism? No, bc they only gave them treatment equivalent to the profit they were generating. The early years of the group was not exactly what you would call a product of favoritism. Although they had hits, they were really not that big and they did not even have good promos. They were overshadowed by big groups who had better support, one best thing that Cube really did for them was send them on Queendom. And for argument that Soyeon is their favorite, she's not exactly being treated that way. The others do the promoting in shows while she focuses on music. And it's not easy money; Señorita, Uh Oh, and OMG did not exactly chart well. That's why with her solo comeback, her main goal was to be recognized by people. After Queendom, they just took off. Sales reached 150-200k sales plus the each member generated fame. It's not just about one member now, they all generate fame and profit.
I agree with the video, but you lost me at the "favoritism of idle". Just because gidle is doing well and are successful it doesn't mean that they are getting favored by cube. They would literally be locked up in the dungeon if they wouldn't produce their songs and come up with the concept themselves. Cube does the bare minimum for them.
They do the bare minimum that is true but lets compare just how much work they have had in 2020 compared to Pentagon and CLC, lets also not forget how LUCKY they got that Soyeon and Miyeon got picked out to be in K/DA which ended up being a hit collaboration, there is favoritism going on in the sense that all the focus and the budget that they do give has gone to Idle while PTG and CLC were left to rot. Like jesus christ they literaly forgot to upload CLCs comebacks like Devil and Me, onto places like itunes which just ruined any chance of their music charting, they also had CLC be on a hiatus for almost a whole year after Devil. Be happy that Idle is at least getting the bare minimum, cuz other Cube artists dont even have that.
@@alexblack4048 I think most of us agree that Idle does get treated better than CLC/PTG, but at the same time it sucks that everytime we talk about CLC or PTG it's under the scope that Idle are a bunch of privileged people who ruined everyone else's chances at a career, that they're spoiled and don't deserve anything, etc. They only debuted with Latata because they refused to write Idle's debut song, so Soyeon did, and then it got rejected a bunch of times before the whole group essentially vouched for it just so they could debut. They got completely lucky with KDA being as big as it was, Latata wasn't expected to blow up, and even after that they STILL mistreat the girls. They threw Mnet under the bus for using Shuhua's proper flag instead of China's flag, they never defend the girls when controveries show up or they need company support, Soyeon is constantly being forced to work while her members are on vacation so she can keep pumping out money for Cube because none of the other groups bring in as much money. Overworking to the point of insanity while also putting every controversy/group issue on her shoulders while abandoning them to rot can be just as bad. And I say this as a CLC fan BEFORE being an Idle fan, and I say this as someone very worried that if Lightsum blows up, Idle will be forcefully disbanded too. Most people agree that Idle is given better management in some cases and does have actual promotions/budget. But Cube has deep-seated, intrinsic issues with its management and mistreatement of idols, and Idle is not an exception.
@@alexblack4048 gidle had two comebacks. pentagon also had two comebacks and CLC had one. how much more work did gidle have? chesires couldn’t even get CLC their first win even after begging for a comeback while pentagon fans actually tried to get them their first win. i guess you missed the point of the video where cube doesn’t care if it’s fair and only cares if there’s money being made.
@@boopboop831 CLC has two wins with No. Everything seemed to be going well in 2019 up until the company just decided to stop promoting them (this being the reason why Elkie left). It's not that Idle is privileged but that Cube fails at artist management. If you don't have a popular debut song with good album sales you will be left to the wayside. CLC had several chances to build a bigger fan base but Cube just seems to hate them. Even recently one of the members went viral in Korea after appearing on a survival show and had a popular song come from it but cube decided to wait a whole 6 months plus to have a comeback. Smh
@@alexblack4048 Wow, u really highlighted the word "LUCKY" when it's TALENT that got Miyeon and Soyeon to be picked as KDA member. In one interview, the Riot music team told that they personally went to korea to find talent for kda. Miyeon and soyeon was chosen on february 2018 which was even before gidle debuted. Miyeon has great vocal and her image suit the Ahri character while soyeon is amazing rapper with great stage presence which suit Akali so much. One more thing, rather than they are "lucky" to be in kda, it was kda who was lucky to be with soyeon n miyeon. Without kda, soyeon and miyeon were still succesfull with latata and hann but without soyeon and miyeon, kda might not be as successful.
This is why I hate Cube, The exploited and sexualised HyunA to a point where it had a huge effect on her. And they never appreciated the other 4 members. 4Minuets created and mate cube into what they where treated awful
Loved the video! I just wanted to add a couple things: The last comeback that 4Minute had, Hate, was not actually that successful (in terms of domestic success). The physical sales of the album were less than half of those of Crazy (which in itself was not a huge issue considering 4Minute was always the strongest digitally). Hate is one of their lowest charting title tracks, peaking at number 13 in the Gaon Chart (when most of their previous songs easily reached top 5). As for digital sales, once again, Hate didn't sell as much as their other songs (they had over 260000 sales, which is still a good number, but if compared to Crazy, which sold over 600000, or Volume Up with almost 1.9 million sales, is not that good). The comeback did so much better internationally charting pretty well on foreign charts and getting them some new records, but it was not really appreciated by the Korean public. I personally feel like Cube wanted them to ride the 'Crazy' wave and stopped pushing them after their comeback wasn't as successful as they wanted it to be. Also (this is just a consideration feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong), Hate and the disbandment of 4Minute were in 2016, the same year Pentagon debuted. And since CLC had debuted the previous year, I feel like it could be possible that Cube just decided that they wanted to focus more on the new groups they had (we all know how that went, Cube is just really disappointing) and decided to disband 4Minute after their comeback didn't meet their expectations. I was a huge fan of them back then and I absolutely loved their music, when they disbanded I was super sad.
The way Neverlands are pressed about you saying idle has favoritism is hilarious. Yes, cube did little if any effort into their debut. Yes, Soyeon had to step up and write/produce their debut song. The real question is what happened afterwards? They got FULL and complete support. CLC has had a steady increase in popularity for them to be left on the back burner. Missed opportunities for them and so much more. Idle isn’t to blame either so stop acting like the victim. It’s cube that’s the issue. The biggest management failure was CLC’s canceled comeback that was sold to another group after the super successful Black Dress which is the biggest scar any group can have. They didn’t even try to give them a comeback after that. Can we also talk about how it’s alleged that cube told those girls they won’t receive anymore support from that blue box of hell? But yeah cube has no favoritism👌🏼
Thank you so much for this video, can't wait for part 2, and other video you're going to do about CUBE. I understand the time line way better now, back then everything happened so fast
In retrospective, Hyuna should have left Cube with her members and stayed together as a group and soloists. At that point, she already knew Dawn, she wouldn't have miss that part of her life.
I remember that interview... I don't know if you guys watched it but Hyuna seemed so scared even the look on her face before she sat down... poor girl she definitely knew what was coming and got all the hate you can just imagine :(... she also mentioned in that clip that she said SHE DID NOT WANTED TO DO THIS ! she was sitting on the ground and started crying and asked not be filmed but of course the damn camera didn't go away.. I remember she also said something like the other members would be sad if they see me crying.. like come on give her an break :( everbody saw the headlines but nobody saw how much of a damage they all gave her.. and how she said: "I hate myself" .. God I'm still getting tears when I think of that interview. I just hate CUBE for what they did to 4Minute and Hyuna!
I just got into Kpop going 3 years in a few months. Of all the 2nd gen groups, 4minute really got me. I was introduced to them bc if my friend and of course it’s bc of Hyuna. As I learned, Cube was really riding Hyuna train hard. My bias is Sohyun, I get it Hyuna was very attractive and the star but it really irks me when people are just fans of 4minute bc of just Hyuna. When Crazy & Hate blew up, I thought they were still performing not knowing they disbanded already since I came to Kpop late. But I see more and more of Hyuna. Now her solos, are catch af. The mistreatment of 4minute and sky rocking Hyuna career really just make me can’t stand Cube. Now with G-Idle, I can see they can roll soyeon like Hyuna, though I understand why but there’s so much promise with idle. Also 2yoon, I loved 24/7. I think bc I’m a country fan at first before getting into Kpop. And as for CLC, Cube basically just shoved them away once idle debuted
Thank you for doing this video series. I learned so much more history here and am glad the girls are better OFF without incompetent and Negligent Cube. Definitely will watch your 2nd part, Chaennie. 👍
Strange how most 2nd Gen Girlgroups ended up in similar situations or had cases where one member was more promoted. As much as I love 2NE1.. but it was CL amd friends, 4minute became HyunA and friends, by the end miss A became Suzy and friends, Sistar... Hyorin and her friends... Tho their disbandments are different but in each case there were members who didn't even get the chance to promote or anything or get solos. Lately I heard Dara also revealed if she didn't accept the beer commercial which had her solo song "Kiss" she might have not get any solo either.
hyuna almost debuted with wonder girls but honestly in a company or another she would still shine. her aura and stage presence are spectacular. i hate how they sexualized her so much...
I think hyuna knew what was gonna happen when she publicized her relationship. She had been so overworked since she was so young, she carried so much on her plate and I think she was just done it’s a bold thing to do but she knew she would be ok without them. The sad thing is that dawn was taken out of his group but I have a feeling Psy and hyuna already had an agreement that he would sign her and dawn before she publicly said anything.
i think if she is given the chance she will but again most of the time she's absent and cant have solo activities (besides her solo now) bc she's so overworked with gidle songs i hate to phrase it like this but soojin's issue honestly gave soyeon the break she needed
She has definitely been control since 2013 .the hyuna we know today the aesthetics and performance style were born with the 'now' era
@@lilkittykat3214 it’s kind of sad too because they’re both in their 30s like did they think Hyuna was a nun?
Okay but can we talk about how iconic it was that 2NE1, Girls Generation and 4Minute were all promoting at the same time
It was really memorable. 2ne1 fans blackjacks and SNSD's fans Sones were going all out to make their faves win that music show trophy... It was so tense and hyped that even bystanders couldn't help but stop and watch how it'll end.

I've been a 4Nia since 2010 (they were the ones who really got me hooked on Kpop at the time) and it always pained me to see how 4Minute were treated, in addition to arising tension between the members - mainly towards HyunA, even though it wasn't entirely her fault. Cube pushed her too much and out of all the members, SHE was the one member who was oversexualized and people called her a "slut" and a "whore."
On a side note, I've always had a love and great appreciation for ALL the members - baby leader Jihyun, Gayoon, Jiyoon, and Sohyun.

Cube not letting 4minute perform Crazy at Mama 2015 was absolutely ridiculous. They were robbed of the Best Dance Performance Female Group award.
what???? how come..
gidle does not owe anything to cube, they owe it to themselves and their talent and their success comes from their amazing way of working together and knowing how to take advantage of what they have
Love the video but i have a little bit of correction:
The 2018 Hyuna-E'dawn incident started like this: They were seen very close behind the scenes and people started acusing Hyuna of being sexually innapropiate towards E'dawn and the hate started again.

You can like them all. lol.

But now that cube knows gidle is the money maker the dump the other groups in dungeon and focus on gidle only (I'm scared what will happen to lightsum)
And ofc no doubt gidle is freaking amazing and officially not their fault they deserves it and soyeon is great producer and all.. but my point is why debuted another group if your focus on 1 only.. and clc has the potential to write and produce as for yeeun but not giving the opportunity to do it apart of her own raps.
You do realise that just because they didn't believe that much in the group at first, that doesn't mean that they aren't prioritising the group to the detriment of other groups now, right? The company’s focus has clearly changed to be on gidle, not giving their other groups the same attention and care.

I mean Nu'est was pretty much self-produced and got mismanaged HEAVILY by Pledis.
She already made a Video about Pledis
OMG OMGOMGOMG ITS BEEN SO LONG, I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!!
Welcome back! Been waiting on this one
Thank you so much 💓
That favouritism of idle is not hitting.
Idle debuted when cube was at its worst , plus not only other grps idle too doesn't recieve any special treatment.
Every time auditions for KPOP entertainments open in my area, I go to this channel to research first
Thank you for bringing issues like these to light and helping us understand entertainments and the KPOP industry better
I AM SO GLAD THIS SERIES IS BACK. THANK YOU SO MUCH! :)
Ur back! 😭
+I still can't believe cube entertainment is still a thing 🤨
I detest them so much
i cry every time i hear/read something about this, they were all i cared about back in the day, i was 8 when i heard hyuna for the first time (bubble pop), and i got so invested into 4minute, i still remember the day i got to know they disbanded, i was so confused and hurt, queens deserved better
At this point I just wish they would’ve just debuted HyunA as a soloist in the first place
I will go in on them for that, don't you worry!
Update: Hyunseung left Cube and redebuted with the stage name Able
Members Huiyeon and Jian, the youngest members of Lightsum, are no longer part of the group. Cube made the official announcement that Lightsum will reorganize as 6-members and they didn't mention what they'll do with the two members that left
IVE BEEN WAITING ON THIS ONE. TURN IT UP!!!!
This is a pleasant suprise. So glad to see you're back!
I clicked on this so fast! Ty your back bestie always love your videos
Thank you bestie 💖
@@ChaennieLisoo Np bestie 😉😌😌
So anyway gidle is best selling artist under cube with 211k+ for iburn ep
with one album iktr!
and other cube groups still cant accept this.. cause apparently they dont have "sungjae" or "concerts"

loved this video until you said "the favoritism of idle"
literally where? its not their fault that they had to produce their songs to be able to debut
right like, everything that idle is because the girls did it themselves, CUBE does the bare minimum for them and the girls (mostly soyeon) has to make up for their slack
exactly. gidle just takes everything into their own hands. three producers in the group will ensure you get music.
THANK YOU USER NIGNMENG EXACTLY
No one said that cube’s behaviour is idle’s fault, people think they’re favoured by the company because they have the opportunity to write and produce things that were denied to other girl groups under cube
But it just seems dumb that everyone focuses on idle and not the other artists under cube but I digress
Volume Up is a timeless classic and my favorite 4 minute song.
Its sooooo fucking good!
The fact hyuna couldn't watch her own debut mv😅
it's the fact that (g)-idle are treated the best yet at the first sign of trouble they get thrown under the bus

I’m very patiently waiting for a DSP series. Kara, kard, April
bubblepop was my first kpop song and remains my fav kpop song to this day 💗😭
Nice video!
Just wanted to mention that "favoritism" towards (G)I-DLE doesn't exist, here's great comments that point that out
I understand that it's mostly your opinion but that would be great if you make more thorough research on the matter for next vid
Just came here to dislike this video for saying gidle has favouritism. They earned their success, I know admitting it hurts but it’s the truth.
you can prove that cube ent is so bad without saying that idle is cubes favorite because we all know they're self produced and is successful (and of course they bring the most profit, so why not use the money gidle brought for GIDLE?) also their debut keep being delayed because cube isn't giving them a debut song that soyeon have to produce their own debut song. they also have low budget debut and just had good mvs because they gained popularity (and brought money to the company) :// ik cube sucks because they can't still promote idle (esp shuhua) and other cube groups but no need to say they are favored just because they're doing good.
it's definitely favoritism. no matter who brings in the most money, the people in charge of management should still be giving others groups and idols opportunities.
The popularity of IDLE is credited to them alone, with their self-produced music and individuality and charms of the members (together with the usual lackluster and sub-par promotions from Cube)
Honestly, promotions of Cube under VT Cosmetics has no significant difference to that of Cube under iHQ, but there are still some improvements.

Came here after Soojin left (G)i-dle...
Loved the video!
I just wanted to add a couple things:
The last comeback that 4Minute had, Hate, was not actually that successful (in terms of domestic success).
I MISSED UR VIDEOS SM IM GLAD UR BACK😫‼
The way Neverlands are pressed about you saying idle has favoritism is hilarious.
Exactly, thank you!
Omg yess was waiting for you to discuss about Cube and finally
Lately I heard Dara also revealed if she didn't accept the beer commercial which had her solo song "Kiss" she might have not get any solo either.
hyuna almost debuted with wonder girls but honestly in a company or another she would still shine. her aura and stage presence are spectacular. i hate how they sexualized her so much...
she did debut with wonder girls tho
She debuted with Wonder Girls. She was just there for the debut and then her parents made her leave due to her getting ill.
12:52 the 7 wins are with crazy. hate didn't manage to get a win.
Soyeon is like cube's money maker rn....
But Soyeon is not the most popular member...
@@jinnisbae7832 yeah
i think if she is given the chance she will but again most of the time she's absent and cant have solo activities (besides her solo now) bc she's so overworked with gidle songs
i hate to phrase it like this but soojin's issue honestly gave soyeon the break she needed
