  • Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other prominent Nigerians have advocated for the inclusion of women in governance to foster impactful community enrichment at all levels. The call was made during the Opening Ceremony of the 24th National Women’s Conference, organized by COWLSO, held on Tuesday at Eko Hotels and Suites, themed “Soar Beyond Boundaries… Enrich Communities.”
Speaking as a guest of honor, Governor Eno emphasized the importance of involving women in governance to achieve swift, positive, and visible results. He described the conference as a convergence of brilliant minds aimed at expanding development, particularly within the home front. “This conference holds great promise for Nigeria, and I believe that with gender equality, we can accomplish more for our people, break more glass ceilings, and work towards gender-friendly governance,” he stated.
Host Governor Sanwo-Olu affirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering women and increasing their relevance in all areas of government. He reiterated the administration’s dedication to serving Lagosians better and creating more opportunities for women, youth, and businesses to realize their full potential, in line with the THEMES PLUS developmental agenda.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also encouraged continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he leads the nation forward and urged participants to seize the opportunity presented by the conference to bring positive changes to their lives and communities.
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Chairman of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), urged women in her welcome address to be selfless and push beyond boundaries to enhance their communities and challenge gender imbalances in society. She highlighted the invaluable contributions of women across various sectors and underscored the need to prioritize their well-being, as their influence is crucial to shaping a progressive and equitable world.
“The objective of this annual conference is to address the various challenges facing women, empower and support them to become independent, and help them realize their full potential,” said the Lagos First Lady. “Women play crucial roles in modern society, serving as the foundation of homes, families, organizations, and communities.”
Reflecting on the achievements of COWLSO over the past five years, Dr. Sanwo-Olu noted its positive impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals and reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to fostering change and positivity among women in Lagos State.
