I love watching these videos made in a country I don’t live in, about a format I don’t play
Me too. 😂
Honestly, same
You should try it sometime, it's one of the coolest ways to play Magic. I say this as someone from Michigan!
Just proxy a 2-3 colour deck and play!
@@KymenKiro bold of you to assume I have the time and playgroup for that. Lol. I would seriously love to, but I can barely find the time for an fnm once a month. 😏
One day I hope we get the _Canadian Highlander Showdown is filmed in front of a live studio audience_ announcement that the first few seconds here evokes.
Wheeler IS correct, i _am_ mad that y’all are on the wrong sides
And you are valid good sir
But that's Ben's side.
@@lordofbears9463*syr, not sir
"This video (filled full of a christmas backdrop) was filmed before January 7th" will never fail to make me laugh
Invert Polarity may be my favourite card from last year. It’s both whimsical and wins games.
Top 5 cancel variants for real
Winsical
Card is horrible for 1v1 magic imo. If the casters wins the coinflip they almost always just win the game. It's another version of Comet that is funny and cute for EDH or limited formats but just a horrible feels bad in games that matter.
@@AnawnMouse As someone who HATES chance in competitive MTG, I actually disagree. I think it’s a very interesting card with a very high cost of inclusion with a high ceiling. Cancel is kinda bad and cancel with the generic pip becoming red is huge, and the upside makes the decision of what to counter a lot more interesting since you really want to maximize value since you have a chance of taking the spell, which I think can lead to a lot of skill expression and be a bit deeper than just using a force of will or something. I think it’s a really neat card, but there’s also a very real chance I’d feel different if it was a 4-of staple or something , but as is I think it was balanced pretty responsibly.
_New dice-roll-win theory:_ the Ben on the left side of the table always wins the roll.
Think accidental misplay happened when Wheeler added 5 mana from the Tolarian Academy. I think he counted Shadowy Backstreet as an artifact. Don't know, if at the end of the game he had a land in hand to discard to Mox Diamond, that way it would not have made a difference.
I agree, but i think the error could have been mitigated* by playing the wishclaw before tapping the academy. Also ben ben did two takesies backsies. So, fair is fair?
@@MintChocDoublin glad there is a "perfect play" line that still wins, good catch!
BING BING BABY GIMME THAT CANLANDER GAMEPLAY! Make it weekly please I will buy yall drinks
That beseech line was dope, also the Citadel being on top was so funny, great episode!
Did Wheeler count Shadowy Backstreet as an artifact land at 59:10? The surveil lands are not THAT busted.
Love the series from this recording sesh where you guys are jamming new and fun stuff! Still has that Highlander power with spins we usually dont see for those who aren't players of the format. Loving it!
Congratulations Ben for winning the match
i like this comment because I don't know which one you're talking about and thus cannot be spoiled
@violetto3219 I commented before I even started watching it
Thank you guys for another episode featuring great gameplay once more.
That finish was pretty amazing. Well played, both of you.
That was such a great match. Really fun, fantastic play at the end of the last game.
I LOVE that there isn't background music on this. I can hear with no issues and that just doesn't happen a lot with Magic content.
The food slander 😂
Grixis White Midrange vs Citadel Storm is my kind of jam. Good stuff!
I just love canlander. The year end tournament was so fun, and I can’t wait to see some of those decks on North 100
You see north 100 you click too? Awesome
Excellent, as always. Thank you!
I did not, in fact, hate it. 😁
What the hell is this Thumbnail :D
Citadel Storm was the first true artifact combo deck that I fell in love with in the format. Haven't played it in a dog's age but seeing it piloted now in 2025 felt good. Makes me itch to resolve my own tinker to get through similar lines!
Playing Imperial Seal into that Daze with the Signet right there was brutal.
Azorious signet doesn't tap for black mana sadly
@@alttiseppanen I know, but the promise of an extra mana is there. If it were a talisman, this would have been a non-issue.
Pogging out over that Sunset Revelry, great value.
I'm here to watch fun games and to hear Wheeler roll his throwdown.
I don't know if it would have been good, but in game 1 if I were in Ben's seat I don't know if I could resist Reprieve-ing a suspend spell lol. It's such a setback, while also drawing a card. Especially with Daze backup.
Very much a great North 💯 match. I wish Paul was a little more attached to the game when Ben is not producing but still very enjoyable. The optimisation conversation was amazing between/during the said conversation was great. Love you guys keep up the amazing content.
I really like these videos, however I do wish that they were released closer to when they were filmed
I hate that Ben is in Ben's chair.
It was great to be here
I have been thinking about the viability of Citadel in Higlander just this month, what timing
wheeler's impeccable Wookie impression.
ben playing an esper deck vs ben playing a red esper deck
I have to agree with Wheeler. Tapping Tolarian Academy is an amazing feeling, addictive almost, and you can cast more than craterhoof and elves with it unlike what mostly happens with cradle!
I think wheeler did a slight "cheat"/miss sequence in executing the game 3 combo. After playing the Tolarian academy wheeler taps it for 5 mana but I only see 4 artifacts in play at that point (2 artifact lands, petal, and signet). It looks like the shadowy backstreet is inadvertently counted as another artifact land. Ultimately, I don't think this matters (and this is where I'd be curious for others thoughts) as the wishclaw talisman could have been played before activating the Academy to be the 5th artifact but at that point I'm not certain how it works out for the colored mana pips visavis tracking floating mana. I'd imagine at the point cabal ritual is cast it makes it fairly moot anyways and since wheeler has more than enough black mana on board there isn't a huge constraint there, just the sequencing to have the 5th artifact in play at the right time.
This grixis white list is just a pile of everything beautiful
How does Wheeler shuffle like that, I can hear the fanning of the cards and now I want to learn.
Practice practice
Naive questions, how did Darkslick Shores enter untapped with 3 lands in game 2?
It’s how the card works, it’s untapped as long as you control 2 or fewer *other* lands, and Ben only had 2 others
Would love to see yall play 30$ vintage
Shouldn't Wheeler get his darksteel citadel back after the tinker rewind?
ITS HEREEEE
Is this a re-Upload ? Or am I bamboozled due to Ben using the Same deck again
I think ben should take some inspiration from 7pt and call that colour combination Gwixis to make everyone uncomfortable
13:55 did you hear they announced a sequel to Orcarmy at the Game Awards?
i hope the ben with tattoos and glasses wins
tbh I think it's bummer drummer that Food Fight just doesn't quite cut it cause the idea and theming is so fantastic.
But Ben, you could be playing Wet Mardu!
Wheeler is correct, switching the Bens is irritating. The content however is excellent as always. We got to see the decks do their thing. Very close last match!
God I love combo decks
Wheeler on the right threw me off more than it should have
15 seconds ago? HYB
Loved the video. Hate that wheeler is on THAT side.
Really wish there was a displacer kitten in the 99 of that artifact deck would make winning a lot simpler with 3feiri
This is not Commander.
@ yea no sheet, it’s an artifact deck flickering nonland permanents is just good
I need post game commentary... mostly so I can know what tutors found what.. and for wheeler to keep throwing serge under the bus 😅
AHH!!! Ben is on the wrong side
What? Why is Wheeler on the Challenger side?
Sorry but points? It might sound stupid but I don't know what that is.
The format banlist only really has ante and racist cards on it, but some cards are so busted they have to be pointed so people can't just run everything. Ten points maximum. More info in the description.
Academy only taps for 4 mana, so wheeler was unfortunately 1 mana short from this combo line
I wasn't gonna say anything last time but I'm here early so ... the Grixis White list has just as many white pips as it does black and red. Comet??? My sweet shard, what have they done to you.
ARAGORN????
looks mardu blue to me
If you hadn't mentioned that you were on the 'wrong side' it might not have bothered me. Now we'll never know.
If it can be called Grixis Red or Jeskai Black, why not split the difference and call it Azorious Rakdos
It's obviously Orzhov Izzet.
@@cyntheticconjurer Orzzet
Looks more Boros Dimir to me.
I can't believe Ben is on the left and Ben is on the right. Ben is supposed to be on the left and Ben is supposed to be on the right. It's unnatural I say!
Please play more of this wheeler
And if you can show to the camera what you are getting with the unconditional tururs so can follow along it will be great
Also why is wheeler at the wrong side of the table?
SO FAST
honestly I'd love to see a shorter form of content (hopefully in addition to n100 showdown) that sits down in front of the camera with a deck and shows what the deck is and how/why it works, and then maybe ending with like "what can this deck do on turn 1 with the nuttiest, most magical christmas-land hand ever". Or if not turn 1, then after it has set up, or something
I would love this, but I don't think the content would draw enough views to make it viable.
Wheeler please consider collabing with Maldhound on something your irreverent humor together I think would be a great back and forth
Not first
>:D
Ben wanting to run back the Tinker knowing full well he was gonna loose is such a BM. Regardless if its casual or not accept your mistakes and learn from them
1) This show is more about showcasing what the decks do than a competitive match so it tends to run a little casual like that.
2) Ben is still relatively new to this format. He doesn't have the reps in to perfectly pilot.
3) Ben is new to both decks and Tinker specifically.
4) Ben is relatively new to this kind of game play. He's always thrived as an aggressive player and this is outside his comfort zone.
5) The game is basically over if the Tinker resolves as opposed to seeing what else the match should have looked like if both players were the original pilots.
In addition to this list, the Bens mentioned a lot of this in the show. Ben didn't take the time to read Tinker and when he did he rethought his line. Wheeler hadn't revealed any new information. No other game actions had been taken. Wheeler didn't have any counterplay. I'd say it was technically a GRV, but better entertainment and demonstrative the way it was done.
@@markbrierley6367I agree with all your points... except the additional one. He learned Citadel wasn't in Wheeler's hand. I don't mind the take back for all the other reasons you listed, but that is absolutely relevant information.
Meow
Phlage reanimate Phlage? EW
Being unfamiliar with a card is understandable like Tinker for ex, but what I don't understand is why you would just let a card resolve from a combo deck of all things and just be like yeah whatever it resolves...oh wait what does it do...kinda sloppy.
I like the complexity of combo decks and the interesting lines of play, four color "good stuff" piles however seem sweaty and kinda boring for content and entertainment purposes..
I prefer ben Ulmer behind the camera.
He's a super nice guy, but I have noticed that he consistently asks to take back plays. Even in casual, that can become irritating sometimes because, more often than not, it's in response to him learning new information he shouldn't have known. It's not a huge deal, but it can certainly add up.
Edit: I'm aware Wheeler offered, but it was only as a result of Ben implying he wanted it. And Ben could've said no and just accepted the mistake.
@SyntheticReign if this were a show about having a competitive match and not a couple of deck showcases I would agree. But this show isn't about Ben learning things; it's about us learning things.
Tinker is an addition cost unfortunately, so that means you shouldnt have an artifact to sac after it was remanded
It doesn't get called but he sacs the darksteel citadel
Assuming you mean the Reprieve in G1, Wheeler sacced Darksteel Citadel on the first cast, and Azorius Signet on the second cast.
He sacrificed the darksteel citadel when he cast it into remand. Then he sacrificed the signet on the second cast, didn't he?
