I feel the need to let you know that you had 390,125 scute swarms after the 8 landfall triggers. (Each trigger having each swarm create 4 more, 5 after the first, then 25, 125, 625, 3121, 15605, 78025, and finally 390125 total.)
So much fun!

Did some quick math for you all, Lupo had 4,294,967,296 copies of Scute Swarm in play, that's 32 doubling of 2 btw
Isn't it more, though? Primal Vigor makes each swarm create 2 more, so triple, not double?
@smallsailingninja That's with the Primal Vigor calculations cause 8 land fall triggers all trigger 4 times here thanks to Primal Vigor

If I'm correct Lupo had one card doubling landfall triggers, so 8 lands ETB causes 16 landfall triggers to go on the stack, each making triple the Scute Swarms - I think that's only 15,136,227 Scutes after all the triggers.
With double ETB and double tokens, each scute swarm makes 4 total scute swarms when one land enters. So you essentially just multiply by 5 everytime instead of two. So after the 8 landfalls he would’ve only had 390,625 scute swarms.
1 has a trigger to make one more but it makes two more, and that happens twice. So 1 scute makes 4 scutes.
5 scutes now, each one makes 4, we have 25 scutes. Do that 6 more times and it’s only 390,625.
@shaunwilliams8943 8 lands causing 16 triggers. Each trigger causes EVERY Scute Swarm to make 2 new ones. So 1 -> 3 -> 9 -> 27 -> ... -> 5,045,409 -> 15,136,227.

Small note at 13:00 for when Olivia plays this deck in the future (not sure how it would have changed this game); Calix is not a may trigger and doesn't specify creature you control, so if your opponent has creatures in play, you can target them. And since all her permanents had shroud at this point, she would have had to target an opponent's creature!

I’m a latecomer to Critical Role as well (campaign 3) and it’s honestly really easy to jump into, largely because there’s a detailed wiki and lots of fan clip content to give you a general idea of past goings on. Also, Campaign 3 ends tonight so you can jump into Campaign 4 soon and just go from there!
Matt doing the Minsc and Boo voice while playing that deck is peak Magic. Love this episode.
This episode really was a bingo card of things to expect from Matt Mercer; In character voice acting, Strongbad reference, casual autograph, 69 "nice" moment, and an unintentional "How do you wanna do this?" To wrap it up.

I don’t think that could work as impending operates like suspend
@@bennguyen4664 technically suspended cards are in exile which is why you cant proliferate them, an impending card usually is on the battlefield and therefore targetable

28:20 I love how DrLupo is just doing all kinds of things, all these triggers, and Kibler is just following along helping the count, Olivia is chilling, and Matt is nodding to himself happily as he looks at the cards in his hand, putting them in order looking all satisfied and pondering all these possibilities. Matt voices Minsc, but we all know he should voice Boo too.
Comander at home has quickly become my favourite commander show. The amazing hosts brilliants guests, funny decks and the fun casual vibe just makes it super fun to watch.
The voices of Matt make it mutch better. :D

36:30 Kami doesn't double counters, she adds an additional counter every time you put one or more counters on a creature
There's fair amount of misreading/bad math in this episode, but it's fine, everyone's having fun. Technically scute swarm plus ancient greenwarden doesn't double the effect again because the greenwarden triggers the initial scute swarms an additional time but the ones created by the first trigger resolving don't get the second trigger. (E.G. one scute swarm goes to 3 from a single land, not four). With token doubler effect, would be four new ones from first land for total of five (second land makes five new triggers doubled to ten by greenwarden then doubled again to twenty new tokens by token doubler for 25 total. Continues as 5^n, but it doesn't really matter past a certain point.
I don't know if Olivia really understood how great that "How do you want to do this?" was, directed at Matt Mercer. Great game, everyone!

Matt brings me so much joy every time I see him and showing his blessed talent with voice acting always warms my heart. I’ve been training on voice acting for two years now and I can relate to Matt with his amazing journey in his career. I had bad speech problem when I was younger and now I’m more confident with speaking normally. Awesome to see him again here. Oh and I’ve been becoming a big Magic fan for the past year bought my first commander deck a few months ago. Haha!!

Calyx +1/+1 counters are not may. If you can't put them on your creatures, you have to put them on an opponents creatures if they have any.

as an old man who once played Magic long ago, and has of recent been enjoying again, thank you for "half-tapping"...of all the magic content I've viewed over the last year or so; this is the first I've seen it.
I was fairly certain I hadn't lost my marbles.
Yet with each viewing of TCC, Commander at Home, MTG Goldfish, Game Knights, LRRMagic, etc. and no half-tap...reality began to ...warble.

I can see that being a commander card: "Pass A Fist" - If you didnt attack this turn on endstep, play on a creature of the next player in turn, said creature must attack next player in order.

Its so cool to see a Loot Deck in action. I've built it a few weeks back and I am really happy how it turned out and seeing other card techs I maybe could use is really nice.

Glad to see more content creators play Glarb. He's one of my favorite commanders I fell in love with. He's so fun and unique.
So the funny thing about Calix and Greater Auramancy is that Calix placing a counter is *not* a may, so whenever an enchantment enters under Olivia's control, she has to put a counter on a creature an opponent controls until she finds a non-enchantment creature of her own - e.g Atraxa

Always love seeing Matt & Lupo both on the channel, and Ben's deck is very reminiscent of an Omnath Locus of Creation deck I made (minus one very vocal Minsc & Boo, unfortunately!) Tons of landfall and building a board almost out of nothing is dangerous with anything green, let alone temur.

27:27, you have no idea how happy I was to see the first card I built a Commander deck around. I pulled this card at a Chaos Sealed event at PAX AUS 2024....alongside another card that paired really well with it.
Some people might get annoyed with long intros and adds but It warms the cockles of my heart that this channel is succeeding so fast from when i saw it first start ❤

For those curious, at 41:25 DrLupo would have 390,625 Scutes. The first land double triggers to create 2 Scutes, which is then doubled to 4 resulting in 5 total Scutes. Second trigger causes those 5 Scutes to each make 4 more Scutes resulting in 25 Scutes total. Each trigger results in quintupling the scute population. The end result can be calculated by 5^8 = 390,625.
The end population of any Scutes Swarm can be calculated using the formula n(x+1)^y; where n is the total number of Scutes before landfall (in this case n=1), x is the number of Scutes a single Scute makes (in this case x=4) and y is the number of lands entering the battlefield (in this case y=8). So in this case, 1(4+1)^8. Have I made it painfully obvious I'm a math nerd who loves Scute Swarm??
