As an older player ,that got out of the game before Harrows ,the nemesis and the rule change has brought me back into the game. Thank for the rules breakdown to help knock off the rust!
The idea of marketing decks based on a theme is way more enticing than the abstract pokemon "gotta collect them all" feel. I think with this setup I'll end up buying more warbands and decks. But the nice thing is if I don't like a warband I don't feel snubbed if I skip it.
I’ve been out since Direchasm, and haven’t really played since Beastgrave. Mostly that’s because chasing Champion cards and seeing the glut of product I bought but will never use frustrated the fun out of playing. These rules changes have at least got me interested in looking. Lack of an active local group will probably still keep me out, but it’s good to see the game evolve in interesting ways.
You mentioned Kainan's Reapers in the multiple Move segment, their reaction Mortek Advance specifies fighters with no Move or Charge tokens so that doesn't come into play. However, you are very correct that once the fighter a moved up off the back of that reaction, they are still free to Move on again by themselves
One note: if the model has a charge token, the article says you can only do two things with that model, attack or go on guard.... It says nothing about the actions on their cards, but then again we don't know all the rules yet
That’s true we have just assumed that the specific mentioning of not being able to move or charge again meant everything else was fair game but that might not be 100% true
A couple of months on, what do you think of the rules changes, did the move/charge changes cause the end of the world for you or was it all a storm in a teacup :D
I’ve been playing once or twice a week again, finally, for about three months now and it’s been fun. But it honestly spunds like a lot more fun up ahead!
New rules are great, initially I was a bit salty since I opt for control/ hold, but I think overall it opens up a lot more strategies for the game. Will change how people currently play the game but can't say for certain until its officially out!
I like the Rival and Nemesis format. They have brought quite a lot of people into UW at my LGS. I was hopìng new bands would come with more Rivals decks but it seems the Looncourt only comes with affiliated cards (despite costing the same as older warbands). They are selling a new Rivals deck completerly separated (Fearsome Fortress). 😓
I think on balance it's better this way. If you don't want to play Looncourt you don't have to buy them. If you don't want to play Fearsome Fortress, you don't have to buy it. I'm assuming that there won't be any "extra" Rivals decks like Illusory Might this season, so we're not down too much.
I agree Pete that Realm-specific rules are fun (mostly, didn’t care much for Primacy). And that these additions last only for the time we’re in that realm or for just one season is a big plus. However, the rules coming in Gnarlwood (i.e. multi-move, activate charged model) are to the very core of the game’s mechanics. These do not appear to be Realm-specific.
@@AgentsofSigmar Though I will give these two rules a try, I feel they significantly change how the game plays. I feel it dilutes the tight gameplay experience WU provides with its limited, 12 action economy. This is one of the two compelling characteristics of WU that has made it my No. 1 game for the last 5 years.
Whilst I prefer the board themes of Nethermaze/Harrowdeep to gnarlwood its great that they are bringing the game back into a much better space. Excited for the box set 😊
Great recap and insight - especially with 6 year look back and perspective on where game has gone and might be going...Where will game be in 2028/2029? :)
Regarding the new charge rule, it will greatly benefit fighters with long range (3-5 hexes) attack profiles who can reach out and hit enemies from the position. Expect Hrothgorn, Gun-dwarves, etc… plus ranged upgrades to be more desirable. I disagree regarding being “punished” for a poor decision. Those situations should simply teach one to play better. I suppose one will still be punished by having to spend another activation to “fix” one’s mistake.
Rule changes are fine, as long as they are made in a way that respect and include people that have previously purchased product. Having to continually repurchase new boxsets to play or stay relevant in your chosen game is a sure fire way to make people tap out or loose interest. Personally i don't want to have to repurchase a new version of any game every 2-3 years in order to be able to continue playing it within the current meta. Especially a game that is so steered towards competitive play. Personally i haven't played UW since beastgrave because i just got tired of having to continually purchase new product.
I hear ya. Though now with nemesis there is less pressure, and the rules pdf generally appears on the website to keep up with the core changes which is nice

💯 We much prefer this new model.

Ah, good point. This is why you should never ad lib!

As suspected, it was all a storm in a teacup. New changes are all pretty solid.
I like all of the rules changes. Looking forward to the Gnarlwood.

Great to hear you've been more active again, as have we! Hopefully more fun is about to land from the Underworlds!

I reckon a lot of the changes will benefit hold/control players too, especially the objectives now starting face up again like the old days 😄
@@AgentsofSigmar That is very true haha, bring back the mournflights!!
Started looking at Steelhearts and Ironsouls again.
I (Robin) have a mind to look at Ironsouls again.

That is true, they likely aren’t really specific but they’re not bad either so should bring a nice fresh twist to the game

Yeah not a fan of the board art

Isn't Rivals+ and Nemesis the same thing
Nemesis is formalised Rivals+ and doesn't allow the Essentials deck.
@@AgentsofSigmar That's good to know - I wasn't a fan of Essentials deck being allowed in events -- of course casual play is different
Yeah. Allowance of the Essentials deck was one of the reasons we didn't play Rivals+

Yeah, turret Stormsire wishes he was still a thing!
@@AgentsofSigmar Don't sleep on them. Magic may be dead, but Stormsire's easy access to R3 D2 attacks will be painful if abused properly.

Of course everyone is whining about changes. Wouldn't be warhammer without whining.
This is also a comment.
And an incisive one too!
