My grandparents lived in Bishops Wood road and my grandfather was the manager of Prestatyn Quarry. I grew up in this area during the late 1940's and 1950's when my parents had to move to London for work. In what you call the sump there were actually fish. I think they were carp (goldfish type fish) but they were white. I don't know how they got there but I suppose some Victorian hoaxer. My grandfather remembered playing in the woods as a boy in the 1880's and running down the hillside jumping out from the trees to frighten visitors walking along the path to Meliden they would shout in welsh "We are the wild men who live in the hills". My great uncle David Hughes lived in a wooden cottage at the Meliden end of the path.

As an old pupil of Prestatyn high school I well remember our cross-country runs used to include Bishop's wood and the crafty among us used to shelter in the fish cave out of the rain.

I was born in 1949 and lived near the golf coarse in Rhyl and as a boy and teenager we used to go bike rides all around the country side around Rhyl. i can remember exploring that cave and remember the deep water that stopped us going any further too. Have walked the railway line from there to Dyseth as well. There was a cave high up and behind the water fall at Dyseth in a sort of lost valley so it seemed back then not normally known about by general tourist to the falls. Great times at Cefn caves by the river too. Wonderful memories of childhood summer days spent in the great outdoors , we were so lucky. My grand children do nothing like that, so sad. Thanks for the video.

I know the cave you speak of behind dyseth waterfalls. Me and my friends found it once when we were kids. After entering and scrambling along, I reached the end, and coming out of what looked like a large rabbit hole from the outside. That small area is such a strange, but magical place.

Welcome to the area, I've done a few videos now about the fish mine, i'm currently looking at doing a deep exploration of the working by abseiling down one of the shafts higher up on the hill side. Stay tuned and please be safe, Atb Andy.

Great mine for a little bit of exploring and claustrophobia testing, deep in with the lights out. I would just have to go back and explore that upper level 😄🇬🇧👍

Mmmm interesting... lived in pres-me-hat-in all my life and played as a child in bishops wood... never seen that miner cottage thou... i know u walk past fish cave and finally end up on a opening of flat grass (camped there loads of times)... then u carry on and reach the huge quarry which i used to frequent in my car later in life. Buty never seem that concrete bench and cottage ruins... so a bit confused
