      That’s kind of the problem
      America thought it was just a cool look
      So tried to just.. copy it from cnada
      Who had spent like a decade designing that shit
      Mostly with computers and cameras nobody like.. designed cadpat by hand
      And then it took us years to make and finish the patterns for other terrain
      America just thoghhh it looked cool
      Made there own by like hand
      And then we’re confused when there’s didn’t work lol

      Same here. I was told that if I ended up getting deployed to some combat area, don't wear new/newish or unstained uniforms outside the wire, because it makes you stand out like a sore thumb pretty much anywhere. But they also said that the same exact piece of kit/uniform with the ineffective regular UCP camo (that looks sort of like a faded teal green mixed with light grey when it's new, to my eyes) can surprisingly transform into a fairly effective and decent camo pattern after it has aged, been used/abused, if it has picked up a decent amount of staining from sweat, dirt, and other things. And it is surprising once you see some uniforms and kit that has gone thru the aging and staining process (especially if it occured naturally, thru regular wear and use) and compare it against anything new that is in UCP, because they pretty much look like completely different camo patterns/colors, and it does become fairly effective in a lot of cases, however that is usually around the same time that the item is nearly worn out and needing to be replaced lol. I had never heard of using coffee grounds to stain the UCP uniforms to be more effective, but it sounds like it would work, if done properly. I wish I had that knowledge back then, and I'm thinking about getting some of my old camo stuff out of the closet and possibly testing that out....i get curious about such things lol

  • @newdefsys

    Little more info for those out of the loop:
    UCP fails as a camo pattern for two reasons: it has a bad color palette, and it uses a "digital" pattern.
    UCP features too many gray and blue hues, resulting in the average color being a pale teal color.
    A "Digital" pattern is the blocky pixellated style, which fails as a uniform pattern since it was designed for Naval Vessels.
    More specifically!
    Camouflage is designed to break up your silhouette by making parts of your body appear to be part of or concealed by the environment, even when you're partially exposed.
    This means each blotch of color needs to be big enough to be seen, but not so big that one color dominates the others.
    UCP fails due to its color blotches being way too small due to the sheer nature of "digital" camo, which was designed for Tanks and Naval vessels. When done properly, each "pixel" would be about a foot wide, and would align better with concrete buildings or the skyline.
    On people? The sharp corners are really noticiable in natural terrain, and never align enough in urban areas. In order to pass the tests, the pixels had to be shrunk, but nobody bothered to update the size of the splotches themselves.

    Although Multicam (or the slightly modified OCP version of it) is a good pattern, if the U.S. enters a major conflict they might have to consider a new pattern again. Reason being because tons of armies have started using it as well so it’s gonna be hard to tell friend from foe when there’s 4 different armies running around in Multicam. Even some Russian SF units are using it.

    Ucp should have never been use in the us army. Cost many lives in afganistan. After BDU I BELIEVE MULTICAM WAS THE BEST UNIFORM TO REPLACE THE BDU. BUT UCP WAS JUST AN IDEA TO KEEP THE CONGRESSMAN COMPANIES EMPLOYED

    I saw a couple of guys wearing these in Afghanistan back in 2010 and I was amazed at how much just adding some brown made it look so much better and actually kind of effective

  • @cej3940
    @cej3940 ปีที่แล้ว

    Honestly with a couple splotches more of dark coyote brown (or a faded espresso) and maybe a bit of sorta faded OD green (not as deep as the camo pattern the Marines use)
    I could see it working in a rock garden-forest transitioning into urban engagement
    Probably not for Afghanistan or Iraq, but definitely in northern countries, I know I'd love something like UCP-D or what I mentioned above when I go stealth camping here in the mountainous parts of Alberta during the winter-spring transition period where randomly it will rise to 3'C, do some freezing rain and make the ground muddy to then drop to -20'C, freeze everything and rise up to like -7'C to snow like hell before plummeting back down to -20'C
    So a lot of white/grey, dark and light brown with occasional spatters of greens

  • @coreymerrill3257

    At this point in time I was super nerdy about camo patterns . The army made " ArPat" and shortly after made army universal . Both were used at the same time . ArPat is the loam and tan , universal has darker green and added browns. Thing is it worked as intended, it failed to blend into environments . It was designed to trick Russian and Chinese night vision in lowlight situations by messing with the heavily pixelated picture they produced. It was in part from the color and in part from a uv/ir reflective treatment in the dye itself. If you want digital patterns that work to breakup a human silhouette against backgrounds , cadpat and marpat do it well in most non desert areas. Atacs green does well too. Crye Multicam is the first camo that actually blends people into the background . The dyes of true Multicam pic up ambient light from the surrounding environments and shows primarily as whatever they reflect. In a dense forest with lots of green , well,its going to be mostly green . Is it autumn ? Well, now you see browns ,tans and reds . Winter is the only time it doesn't blend without help . The old woodland camo is actually very good at what it does too. Breaks up the body outline against shadow and light . It's so good at what it does , seals,and s.o.f. still use it when they work in dense woodlands .

  • @ZOIMIBiIE
    @ZOIMIBiIE 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you have any UCP left, you can dye it successfully with fiber reactive dyes. Camo browns and greens both work really well with it. Typically sold as tie dye, you can mix your pigment differently for different intensities of color
    People are also using rit dye, but I’m hesitant due to the salt content and I’m curious if it reflects IR at all

    Know someone who buys them surplus, dyes them with dark green and resells them. They also do it with normal ucp. It actually looks pretty cool and seems fairly popular and usable in woodland.

    • @MikeB128
      @MikeB128  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't buy UCP-D as "surplus"..... UCP yes, but this pattern, no. If he dyed this pattern green, he's a moron.

    • @devilin100
      @devilin100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeB128 Maybe they aren't military surplus per say. LBT made a mountain of UCP D uniforms for a 2006 DoD contract and sell them off by weight if you know who to ask, Black bear tactical CO? They import LBT into Canada, think its where Crye gets their material for repro delta. Not as authentic or collectable maybe as stuff the DoD actually received and sent out but it all comes as per their standard.

    It only "kind of works" whereas UCP just works. I've seen my battle buddies disappear against red brick, pine needles, spring or summer foliage, grass fields. I have been told it works in rocky or desert environments and we see it working (on both sides) in the Russo-Ukraine War. It doesn't do snow, black or gray concrete or anything that is overly striking colors.

    Honestly I thought my ucps blended pretty good in desert conditions once they got dirty, also my Fracus the different material they were made out of(it was thinner and more linen like) once they had been washed a couple of times instead of fading like the garrison uniforms they would get this grungy yellow tint to them and actually blended really well also when in basic at sand hill were doing react to contact drills where the “enemy” was dug in at the bottom of a draw of sorts and we were moving in squad wedges down the hill directly into them the area where we were doing this was dense rocky aspen forest so lots of white tree trunks with bright green contrast and exposed bed rock and it blended so well that we didn’t even see the guys dug even once they opened up on us it was like the rocks and trees were shooting I was really surprised at the effectiveness of it in that terrain
