From my experience hps is the best for flower depending what ur growing, cmh or lec is a better all in one bulb but keeps plants alil to stalky in my opinion for flower.
what you forget to mention on hps is spectrum results matters on the bulb, I used the eyehortilux super hps bulb which actually has more blue in spectrum then most hps bulbs and has more unol per watt then a 315 cmh, also the genesis bulbs put out more blue then other hps bulbs too and also has more umol per watt then cmh lights, but good video
I've used Eyehortilux lamps exclusively now for around 5 years. Though costly, they're well worth the price because of producing superior yields. As with most anything, you get what you pay for most of the time. Since yield is directly proportionate to lighting, they're a must have for me.
3:56 I think you correctly call the 1st light HPS but then call the 2nd light ceramic metal halide when I think that's the metal halide, and then call the 3rd light CDM (ceramic discharge metal halide) when I think that's the same thing but you've been calling it CMH up until that point.
Just FYI, You can get Metal Halide bulbs in 175 watts for medium base(E26/27) or mogul base(E39/40). They're not the best lighting you're going to get but they do the job. I'm using two different lights with that size bulb, one with a mogul bulb and one with a medium bulb since that is just what I currently have.
Recently ive been using cmh 315w units by lummi and maxibright. The lummi 315w are great but i hear the lummi twin 630w single ended units have trouble. I also have a maxibright 315w horizon unit but that runs very warm unlike the lummi were the only heat is from the bulb. So recently maxibright released a 600w cmh direct hps replacement bulb that works with older magnetic ballasts, these bulbs seemed to be great until i had a power cut for only seconds but when the ballast tried to restrike the bulb it blew it, i hear the cmh bulbs dont like being turned on until they cool down , now these bulbs are £100 a throw and if you have many then this can be an expensive problem, i have come to the conclusion that maxibright dont seem as good quality as i first thought although i love the cmh spectrum. The lumatek zues 600watt led has to be the next step forward for me, just thought id share my experience so maybe someone doesnt have the same problems as me and buy a winning light first time round .
hello, please 🙏 can you respond at this question for me : if i got a dimmable ballast for my CMH 315W lumatek, and i dim it to 50% is the cost of electricity will be 50% less ??
Why is CMH not getting the credit it deserves, specially as being a full spectrum light? I'm really thinking about getting a CMH over a Hlg quantum board.
8:17 BCA isn't trash, as far as their standard ARs go.. They don't put the parts together well, so if you reassemble them and do it properly, you'll have an MOA rifle.
Had no fkn idea the powerball existed! Thanks man! Been using the 315's, but this is so much more efficient when you plug in the wattage you need vs 315 at always on.
i dont get the differences between the watts, how the watts afect the PFFD (PAR), if get two bulb with the same specs but the only differrence are the watts, 100 vs 200, how affect that to the plant and the spectrum? HELP
Why are lower wattage ceramic metal halide halide lamps no good/not concidered for growing? For example 210w. Why is it just the 315w.I'dbe interested to see comparisons between 400w hps and 210w cmh
Hi Shane..am using 2 250w hps sunMaster for 4x4x7.5 tent. The bulbs are 4 year old. Am getting slow growth on veg. When moving to another room with a window for 2-3 hours the plant seems to react to the intense sun light. I know ppl say to replace after~1 year. Do you suppose the bulbs are the culprit? Is it to be expected that a 4yo hps will have almost nothing to give 6 weeks plant in veg? Thought light loss was about 10% a year. Would appreciate ur opinion..thx 😃
Hi Sean - You measured the HPS light at 1.16, which is pretty poor. Was there any particular reason you chose the 1000W bulb? The literature I've read points to 1.8 or better for the 600W bulbs.
The bulbs are not 630W or 945W they are just 315W bulbs put end to end etc.. that's not the same thing. When Philips make say a 500W bulb then we have exactly what we need!
Many thanks for the Vid ..... May i ask a question ? In regards to the double bulb CMH 315w units ie Dimlux (630) .. would there be any benefit in mixing the two bulbs 1 (3k) 1 (4k) for less stretch / better veg growth ... Thanks again.
Hey Shane, is there any other ballast that will work with Eye Hortilux's Ceramic HPS besides their own? It says it can take up to 20 minutes to reach full power and most ballasts see this as a lamp failure. Any info on this?
I am gonna be biased as an owner but I love my air cooled 630cmh a 120mm usb fan(almost no power at 55cfm) pulling through is all it takes, it runs pretty cool, about 8-9 deg hotter than house temp in my 4x4. Also getting both bulbs spectrums is worth the money. the bulbs last forever compared to the others.
Hi, you do really great videos. I have a question. I know you can't do the experiments again, but I was wondering what your general idea as to where A. "daylight" metal halides, (like Eye Hortilux Blue and Sunmaster Nova) and B. "high output"(2000k) hps would compare? I assume you used standard mh and 2100k hps in video? I believe Hortilux Blue has much more efficient par spectrum than standard mh? Thanks.
Most MH spectrum are very close as with HPS. Don't be fooled by 'dual spectrum' MH or HPS bulbs. The best of all worlds is about 3500k CMH. I am at a loss as to why anyone would chose ups or my anymore as a HID option. CMH Rules 💪💪
I agree the dual arc bulbs suck. cmh is very cool, but the 315w only kind of sucks, makes it pretty big cost upfront, at least here in US... But I'd really like to know about the daylight MH and HO 2000k hps, because I have been looking at dozens of spectral distribution charts recently, and your vids are awesome, I love your data and tests, very helpful. But I would love for you to look into/quantify how these specific HIDs compare +/-, because they seem to have unique qualities vs "standard" HID. With the specific Daylight mh and HO hps: 1. Daylight "full spectrum" MH (Hortilux Blue, Sunmaster Full Nova): I agree that most all "standard" $25-$50 MH seem to have very similar spectral distributions, I term them as "spiky" like this: www.stellarnet.us/spectrometer-application-note-how-do-different-light-sources-affect-crops/metal-halide-lamp-spectral-distribution/ With relatively low µMOL and PAR wattage. But, the "full spectrum" MH, that run more like $80-$100, like Hortilux Blue, Sunmaster Full Nova, they have a spectrum very, very similar to cmh, with, from what I see, µMOL and PAR wattage identical to standard HPS like the one you tested, but with a very full spectrum. Like this: www.dudegrows.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/mh-spectral-distribution-chart.jpg 2. HO 2000k HPS(Sunmaster Super HO) again, pricier than "standard" 2100k HPS bulbs, but look to produce more real red than orange of standard HPS, and 10%+ more powerful. If you could test those, that'd be awesome, I think each represents the best use of MH and HPS technology at the moment, and each offers distinct advantages over "standard" HID. It would be awesome to see how they rate in your testing.. Anyway, thanks for the great vids.
Could you give me your input on the 1000 watt hps bulb by genesis. Par is supposed to be around 2900 and balanced spectrum very close to led pushing over 150,000lumens
if I have an old school mh/hps 600w that has settings for 50% 75% 100% and di the up grade to cmh with the adapter. at what setting do I put it at 50% would be 300w the cmh is 315w. is that where I want it at. or do I put it @ 600w😈
why did you test a 1000W hps against a 600W MH and 315 W CMH? isntt the hps a bigger bulb putting out way more light incomparable to the 600W competitor?
Shane, plugg the product that you actually sell in this video mate! Your lamp is way more efficient than all of those, let the people know. I'm buying one of your migro's this year btw. I'm making a setup with the migro in the middle to compliment my 4 DIY cxb3590 50W COB's (basicly its the same as the optic 1's) in a 3 by 3 tent. So with the more powerfull migro in the middle, I'll have about 300Watt of quality leds in a 90 cm by 90 cm tent.
Hey buddy how much does the bulb brand matter? From what I’m researching growers choice seems like the best double ended 630 CMH bulb but definitely pricey what is your opinion?
Check out my CMH bulb review video. Most bulbs are within 5% of each other for output so not worth spending a premium on them. Better to spend the money in a good ballast and reflector.
i read that some university person doing trials said that at the same wattage hps out performs mh for growth regardless of its spectrum because of its efficiency is this true? wondering if mhs are worth having to buy spares for or if i should just go on with hps, cheers
Metal halide is useful in veg because it has 20% blue and this helps keep the growth compact. Unfortunately the bulbs are much less efficient but you need lower light intensity for veg so it suits l ots of people. The best overall sollution is use CMH bulbs at 3000k or 4000k through the whole grow. More efficient and better spectrum.
mh life span is pretty bad would a 300w viparspectra led be a better veg light option than a 250mh? or anre there any cheap leds that you would suggest? cmh wouldnt really suit my situation unfortunatly
I just bought 2 migro 315 to put in a 3.5' ×8' room I built. With white flat walls the light penetrates every corner. Awesome, can't wait to start veg..
HTGSUPPLY.COM they got a CMH LIGHT I'm using that's combined with a dimmer so you can have longer life of the bulb when say in seedling stage. Its 205.00 dollars. It will veg a 4×4 no problem and flower pretty close to that.
I’ve always preferred to use a medium sized reflector with a 600-1000w HPS opposed to the larger hoods that are great for maximizing the footprint of the light, but they sacrifice much of the light intensity and penetration down into the lower part of the plants. I have used just about all of the popular hoods from the very large Dominator XL, Raptors, parabolic hoods and medium sized hoods have been much more effective for me by focusing the light over a slightly smaller footprint but at a considerably more even area with more intensity which seems to yield more than the theory that the bigger the better the hood is as they definitely lose their intensity around the edges very drastically. Thanks again for the great videos, Shane! 💯👍✌️
Hey Shane from Migro. Have you witnessed the cmh in marijuana grows? And have you seen the final product? I'm a i502 grower in washington and was thinking of switching a whole room up with the cmh. Thanks for the video tho you did well explaining the spectrum.
I don't have data myself but there is a LEC (CMH) vs HPS video on TH-cam with yield and lab reports. It's a few years old but very good. Better yield in grams per watt and potency by about 10% if I remember correctly.
Can You Test the Double ended 630w cmh? I ordered today a full fixture Plug and Play for 350€... Take a Look at this lamp its called Lumii Solar 630w DE CMH.. i cant wait to Run my tent with that lamp 😁
Have not heard good things about them, people reviewing them suggesting spend a bit more and get something decent but I'm just an interested bystander.
@@cjhification Well,i Run the Lumii Solar 630 DE since a View days and i have nothing to complain. The plants seem to Love the Light, they are growing really fast. The lamp produces less heat then a 600w HPS. Only Thing that can be better ist that the Lumii is not dimmable, but thats No big Thing for me cause i only Go full Power. I think You wont get a better lamp at this price range.
Haha, I immediately came to the comment section, CMH is bascially the "sweet-spot" in every statistic, heat(less that HPS, a little more than LED), par and price. I got my 315w cmh for $289.00 where can you find a 300w light that outputs these type of numbers for less than the watt it produces. Also, with GC CMH you can push it to 350, 360 watts. Love these things.
how is the heat? im using 2 mars hydro 300s right now they seem pretty good but where i am i cant control the heat very well even with an intake and exhaust fan because the air in my house is 25-27c
Using a 1k HPS in a large hood is actually much less efficient. You want a more focused hood and around 60 watts per square foot. Also if that were true then please explain how the Gavitas with their extremely focused hoods are the most efficient HPS lights vs a DE in a XXXL Raptor. Big hoods are only good for stretching your footprint but you end up with around 30 watts per square foot and lose a lot of penetration.
the gavita lamps are truly meant for the green house growing in Amsterdam they use 1000s of them in massive green houses to supplement natural thats why they have a more focused beam down so they can hang them much higher. I am not saying you can not use them in a grow tent , but unless you keep the plants short you will burn them. 60w per sq yeah sounds about right thats what I use , but I use a 1x1m vertical sunking reflector I can get the 1000w down to 18" of the plants with no burning, try doing that with a Givita and it will burn them even at 3 foot away the grow ten is only 6 foot tall with pots you have about 3 foot of growing room no one tells you that in the grow shop, Gavitas are hung high as fuck I would not use them in a tent light bleach the fuck out of them www.gothicarchgreenhouses.com/grow-lights.html p.s for every foot away the light is from the plants the amount of light is 1/4th so @ 1foot you will get 140.000lux/ @2foot 1/4th you will get 35,000. @3foot you will get 1/9th or 15,555lux you want the light as close as you can to the plant without burning or light bleaching you can get a 600w with in a foot using a sunking @1foot its 90,000lux, a 1000w needs to be 3 feet away thats only 15,555lux th-cam.com/video/yiL-OQCjfKQ/w-d-xo.html www.intl-lighttech.com/inverse-square-law-light-calculator
Benjamin Niêm migro is the top of the line and leds are just behind .... I am from serbia and i used 250 400 600 hps and mh but now i moved on to leds and next will be migro for sure ! Heat and bills and complicated setup is what makes hids bad and outdated !
These spectrum results are not universal..all bulbs and different ballast will give you totally different results. What brand bulbs? There are big differences just in the 600 hps. Same for cmh.
I disagree. I've tested many SE HPS bulbs and the total output in PPFD varies very little between cheap and expensive bulbs, maybe 10% at most. Most digital ballast exceed 90% and peak at 95% efficiency so not much variance there. There are big differences in reflectors though and setup is critical. Reflective walls etc. Are more critical. I have about 10 600w hps bulbs soon will do a demo video on comparisons soon. Thanks for the comment Shane
@@MIGROLIGHT I like your Videos yes i cant disagree with you scientific comparisons cause i have no clue .What i know is that a sylvania growlux and a philips green power dont give you the same results in the quality ,They quality is what really matters in the end product .Sylvania is far better, but shorter life spam.
Hps is old tech , in 2019 there crap. Cmh lights are simply 3 times better as the cri rating is 3 times higher. Hps lights are not an option after using multiple single ended 315w cmh units. Every aspect of the grow is much better and plants much healthier. Hps are street lights thats what they do best get with the times people .

Hilarious and 5 years later you CLAIM the LED is best!!
MIGRO is legit putting out honest information. The community needs more of guys like these.
Already widely available info but yeah good solid info for sure!!
I love Shane's explanations, from the ground up, all the detail you need, no skipping around and losing the thread. Plus good science of course.
With the price of CMH bulbs being so high it makes financial sense to use MH for vegetative growth and HPS for fruiting.
CMH bulbs last 18-24 months whereas MH/HPS optimal spectrum/par output is only around 6-9 months.
Well consider a cmh bulb lasts 2 or three years
Or both cheap vivosun 400 watt - those run hot -and a cmh 4k... thing grew on the other side of the area not even under the light next to seedlings
You are the best man ! Respect
From my experience hps is the best for flower depending what ur growing, cmh or lec is a better all in one bulb but keeps plants alil to stalky in my opinion for flower.
NIGHTMARE710 then just add a hps on the side of cmh

Did he run a CMH bulb in a normal socket and ballast??
there are 150w and 250w MH bulbs as well as 250w CMH bulb that can only be run using a magnetic 250w ballast, it won't work with a digital one.
Can you use a regular ballast to run a double ended bulb
Love the review , what cmh do you recommend to get for a 2x4x60 tent ??
It's really a great vid, double ended 630 watts and 945 watts would be better than 315 watts, what do you think about it?
Hello. Can you use a 1000w hps bulb on a 600w electric ballast?
Cmh is available in 150w, 210w as well as 315w. 630, 945w and 1000w available in DE
The bulbs are not 630W or 945W they are just 315W bulbs put end to end etc.. that's not the same thing. When Philips make say a 500W bulb then we have exactly what we need!
What’s better 1200w metal halide or inda gro 420
Is the heat output the same for each light per watt?
But the sun only emits 6% blue light, so more is just wasted and not used. So the HPS is actually better. Is that not right Migro?
thanks for sharing your work!! *science rules*
Many thanks for the Vid ..... May i ask a question ?

The mix of 3.5k would be optimum balance of enough blue for dense growth and red for photosynthetic efficiency👍

Any thoughts on Double Ended HPS ?
Commercial, high ceiling or light mover required. They say the double ended HPS is superior in the right environment. They do run Hot.
will this metal halide light bulb fit and work inside a regular home light socket ? Or does it require a special fixture?
no, you do need a ballast for running the light and its a e40 socket
Mh for veg Hps for flower?
Hello? Please can you helpme before to get indoors lights. Which one much better on : cree 3590 or Lec 315w? Thanks a por.
Lec 315w is an excellent starter light. Covers up to 1m2. Equivalent MIGRO is the 200 model Cree cxb3590 is a little old now.
Why is the upper limit for efficiency 2?
Love your videos man great stuff, I’m looking into trying bulb and would u recommend the cmh over the thehps and mh?
CMH definitely. The best of all worlds. Most efficient and best spectrum👍

I dont miss the hum of the magnetic ballast at all....
how do you feel about a de 645w cmh
why did you test a 1000W hps against a 600W MH and 315 W CMH? isntt the hps a bigger bulb putting out way more light incomparable to the 600W competitor?
it's the best of what each technology kicks out, typical standard is all.
Sounds like a nice setup. You will be reaching about 800 PPFD average. Nice
what about Xenon short arc lamps?
CMH is 10,000 hours.
Is it normal for the transformer to be really hot?
Where can I get a CMH light?
I just bought 2 migro 315 to put in a 3.5' ×8' room I built. With white flat walls the light penetrates every corner. Awesome, can't wait to start veg..
HTGSUPPLY.COM they got a CMH LIGHT I'm using that's combined with a dimmer so you can have longer life of the bulb when say in seedling stage. Its 205.00 dollars. It will veg a 4×4 no problem and flower pretty close to that.
I second that ceramic metal halide is the best.
great job wonderful info very professional thanks
I’ve got the same 600w lumatek not let me down in four years ✌️
HeavyDutyTraining no I’ve replace them once and going to get some new ones for my next run 👍
Crookybcn
Yes,
HeavyDutyTraining
They loose over time, only a PAR METER can tell you and the bulb hours life,
Great knowledgeable video
Hey Shane from Migro. Have you witnessed the cmh in marijuana grows? And have you seen the final product? I'm a i502 grower in washington and was thinking of switching a whole room up with the cmh. Thanks for the video tho you did well explaining the spectrum.
I don't have data myself but there is a LEC (CMH) vs HPS video on TH-cam with yield and lab reports. It's a few years old but very good. Better yield in grams per watt and potency by about 10% if I remember correctly.
250 MH is very common also, i use it on young plants
How about the footprint
@@PyroTirol thanks for feedback!
Do u think i should buy One 630w or two 315w Will be better?
Hey buddy by chance I got a good one for you can I use 1000 W HPS dimmable ballast with a Hydro crunch 630 xxl Hood reflector
Good setup👍
Can I put a 150watt in my 600watt lumii ballast
yes you can
Can anyone help me on humidity levels for months of growth i have trouble getting a correct answer on high low and swing for months 1 through 9
85 for clones 55 for veg 45 for flower never above 50 in flower or u might get mold
Look up grow weed ez best sight out there
Great vid, I'll try cmh
I love CMH
Love your videos, thanks!
Grow light, Nice and now flo light ?
I make my One 150w cmh magnético balastro, good for small grow space 😎 free plant
work well used them in the past myself
so basically cmh is significantly better in pretty much every stat? why dont bigger growers use them i wonder
Because bigger growers use white Led
Most growers use Eye hortilux hps bulbs or white LEDs
pete ward nice try but very few large-scale growers use LED compared to HID.
Haha I've got those "adjust-A-wings" hps setup but its the aluminium one though not the powder coated one
60w per sq yeah sounds about right thats what I use , but I use a 1x1m vertical sunking reflector I can get the 1000w down to 18" of the plants with no burning, try doing that with a Givita and it will burn them even at 3 foot away the grow ten is only 6 foot tall with pots you have about 3 foot of growing room no one tells you that in the grow shop, Gavitas are hung high as fuck I would not use them in a tent light bleach the fuck out of them www.gothicarchgreenhouses.com/grow-lights.html
p.s
for every foot away the light is from the plants the amount of light is 1/4th so @ 1foot you will get 140.000lux/ @2foot 1/4th you will get 35,000. @3foot you will get 1/9th or 15,555lux you want the light as close as you can to the plant without burning or light bleaching you can get a 600w with in a foot using a sunking @1foot its 90,000lux, a 1000w needs to be 3 feet away thats only 15,555lux

i have a 2300w metal halide lamp
Cmh is the best until a power cut , cmh led is the future
i love you Migro
great video!
Well done
thank u
I make my One 70w,and150w cmh lights, magnético balastro ,4000k,3000k bulbs ,perfect. for micro grow,,😎 free plant
Hey hey hey! Easy with the lamp its not lightsaber you know !
As streetlights all we need is ceramic metal halide and high pressure sodium!!!!!
Outgrow the competition:
choose Super HPS 600w bulbs, from seed to harvest.
HeavyDutyTraining
In Europe, yes!
HeavyDutyTraining
In stores here in France they have L.E.D, HPS, MH. Dual MH/HPS.
Come and see for yourself.
HeavyDutyTraining
Yes, you are right.
A cooler indoor garden is better with your lamps.
Take care, thank you.🤘
Benjamin Niêm its not about location wtf 😂
Nice job!
Great info. Thanks
