You miss an important factor: many strains have been selected and bred under HPS, some varieties just love HPS like Skunk genetics.
Also many LED manufacturers try to compensate for the lack of far red photon output an HPS can deliver and UV that a CMH does deliver naturally.
Consider mixing lights, adding a HPS in the last weeks does wonders for many varieties.

Hps is less efficient I’m sure but grows higher quality product. I’ve tried both ways many times to compare. I actually like a mixed spectrum of led and cmh, led’s by themselves just don’t do what a hps can, mix the two and see if you like the outcome

I will slay any LED grow with HID. I’m not saying LED sucks because it doesn’t, at all. It’s great for many reasons. But, pound for pound, quality of buds from HID is superior.

@ErgoCogita look up HPS vs LED by Debacco University on youtube. THC-A is much more abundant in a side by side grow (HPS and LED) when grown under LED. That's one I can think of off the top of my head that's easily accessible.

Anyone who has eliminated HPS from their toolbelt has lost an important tool
I grew cheese from Barney's Farm under LED three times
I was never happy with the results -so I tried it under my old HPS
Let me tell you it is a different animal, likely because it was developed under HPS
Those who say HPS is useless, have not run enough strains 😊

    • @Memflix

as explained by many old time gurus of the world cannabis, most of the existing genetics are the children of those 4-5 genetics developed between the 80s and 2000s with exclusively HID technology, so today we probably still see a difference in plant development between LED and HID based on the genetics.
I have been growing for 30 years, I have worked in the lighting sector for over a decade, I have frequented Holland for 20 years and I have seen many types of weed in all possible crops, but the best results, the plants with the best developed flowers I have seen only under a combination of HPS600W-LEP300W, that combo seems to emit a light particularly appreciated by plants! The CMH630W DE dual spectrum produce a light very similar to that combination, with 2 additional LED bars for UV and far red in my opinion we are close to perfection, without having to spend thousands of euros for a corresponding LED lamp.

    • @deleqtronica8733
      @deleqtronica8733 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

No one says it's useless, but it's nowhere near as efficient. If you enjoy paying more for less, than keep doing whatever you're doing, no one is stopping you.

    • @cjmarch30

      Efficiency don't grow buds.
Why are the LED producers putting out IR/UV bars? Cause those are the parts of HPS environment they're STILL missing. Keep your efficiency-
I run LED and HPS. Use what's proven best for each strain.
      Same to you, keep yours.

IR or Infra Red is 750nm or greater and is radiated heat. Far red is 700nm to 750nm and is somewhat photosynthetically active. However there is not a lot of evidence to backup adding Far red makes sense. It can cause stretching and is not as photosynthetically efficient as deep red at 660nm.

I still like HPS in January and February where I live. My house has electric base board heaters that are RIDICULOUSLY expensive to run. The HPS actually provides the perfect amount of heat for my grow room during those two months. Any other time, tho,I use LED lighting. Do NOT use digital ballasts for HPS. They’ll blow your bulbs. Digital MH are fine.

    • @peckerpeter2078
      @peckerpeter2078 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Incorrect, your digital ballast is blowing bulbs because you’re using the incorrect bulbs for your digital ballast…!!!
Digital ballast are more efficient, then magnetic magnetic will last longer though .. HID digital ballast high-quality with the correct MH bulb for veg. These are not dimmable at all so Use 600 W bulb for 600 W setting etc etc…
HPS is to be used in the second or third week of flower I wouldn’t recommend dimming that either you can dim, but it will degrade the lumens faster ….
Problem is the manufactures put out great products but they never put out how to use or operate everything correctly which left a lot of operator error and then think the product was garbage because they didn’t use it correctly ….

MH/HPS anit going away, Great growers were getting 2-3lbs per 1,000w of Straight Dank. You can’t blame the light (blame the growers) when you don’t have a full 5ft x 5ft canopy 2-3ft deep. (Min 4ft x 4ft 2ft deep )Which is 1.36 Gpw For HPS, best LED with top growers getting 1.7gpw.
LED diode always burn out been dealing with LEDs since the 2000s… You can look at these so-called LED growers with these LED lights and they’re already on their sixth or seventh different brand LED light claiming it’s still the best..
Mh/Hps produces the highest quality hands down with a competent grower. With efficiency SOP’s used, HPS would still be more efficient. Than LED’s (mainly not needing an extra dehumidifier.)
Electricity prices are inflated, which makes it difficult to use HPS/MH and even LED as they pull about the same wattage to be equivalent to each other.

and no doubt hid have a more natural spectrum, its like comparing a old household bulb with a led.
      its a very limited spectrum
and if you combine that with stuff like chemical fertilizer you get something with half the taste
if anyone thinks their plants smell better with led they probetly just got a better growing inviroment.

Efficient? Ill double LED yeild with HPS, bigger better buds. It really is that simple. My shit will sell way faster, hands down. Side by side I used LED and HPS...
HPS allowed closer to plant ( cool tubes) and bigger bud with greater yield. LED I still needed an AC unit, I also needed greater ceiling height. Plants grew great but I didn't get the 1 liter bottle size buds... Cost to operate the light wasn't much different maybe 2 amps.
The entire set up needed all the same equipment.
However, the LEDs did keep my plants shorter. I will use both.
Don't forget folks there's an energy war going on. Also the lighting industry screws everyone.
Remember when the LED light bulb came out? Lol whatever " "bro"

As Shane calculated, the more seriously one grows, the cheaper the led will be. But not everybody agrees with Shane - i do! Some are still convinced that hps can grow better flowers for ex, and if they mean by that much less leafy, i'd totally agree. But others would say that the flowers are more compact with led, and that those leaves are also valuable, and they'd be right too!
For what is worth my "best" grow was under hps and a cheap magnetic ballast, it was a giant Zulu plant from Drakensberg, with huge internode, and i never reached smt comparable with led since - i heard that breeders can have the same issue but these are very specific

all those factors are not the light its the inviroment
if you are in a northern climate a led is not creating the heat needed for example
everyone that is not blind can see a hid do have more natural light
but that does not help if your inviroment gets worse
just the fact that hid grows bigger buds under optimal conditions says everything, the plants feel better
dont listen to anything shane says, all logic is out the window with that man
he is shilling led and not selling facts

And if you look at the fact the best indoor producers in the industry have been returning to hps or mixed spectrum rooms. No disrespect but asking a led salesman which is best you are going to get the sales pitch. Speke to growers who have real world experience of these things. I have ran next light mega 1 and 2, fluence spyder 1 and 2, all spectrum king range, hlg quantum boards, Lumatek zeus pro, maxi bright, gavita ct2000e and revolution micro avicci led’s not to mention the blurpels of 15 years ago.
