Beautiful Kimsey. Pretty sure we do not have the bug that causes what happens to that wood around here. Least I have not seen any of this wood Sure is pretty. Gary
Howdy Gary i appreciate it! 😎 Seems to be pretty regular occurrence over here for that stuff, some kinda bug likes hickory over here too, ya wouldn’t think they could eat that dern stuff it’s so hard.
Thank Heather I appreciate it!😎 Got a new one I’m working, hopefully I will have it ready before to long, it’s some black walnut with some pretty cool grain in it!
Hey up Kimsey that maple's some right grand wood, lovely markings and it goes all way through beautiful, grand finish, that centre looks right with the rim, i started to go through the centre on some cherry, so i stopped cleaned it up, found a coin with the same year i started to turn, glued it in looks a treat bowl was saved. You get a tonic with that throat fore the next time yeh. All the best from Lincolnshire UK
Howdy Gary! A coin 🪙 is a great idea to use for a fixerUper especially if a coin of value or like ya said the same date ya turned it, thanks for the Advice!😎🤝
Good morning, Kimsey. In life we are given many challenges, Ambrosia Maple end grain can be done of those challenges. It is a gorgeous wood and you took on the wet, end grain piece with very good results. Your finished pieces captured the beauty of the wood. Well done, my friend. Hope you are feeling better soon. Ray
Howdy Ray Thanks I appreciate Buddy!😎 Yep it definitely can be challenging, I did have the rim how I wanted it until that sander started bouncing on the rim it had removed a little much in the softer areas… I’m feeling lots better than I was thanks for asking, Have a good one buddy 😎🤝
CRICKY kimsey love ya video's mate and the grain figure is amazing. Honey and lemon juice in some hot water or rum.👍 Keep the dream alive son Aussie Aussie Aussie GDAY MATE from brisbane Australia
You are right, Ambrosia Maple is pretty stuff. Sorry you had such a tough time with it but it's still pretty. As far as the spot in the bottom, I suppose you could drill it out and put in a plug, the bigger the better probably to make it look intentional. Maybe engrave the plug with a design before you insert it. Nice finish on both pieces. Punky wood is just a problem we have to deal with from time to time but that doesn't make it fun! LOL! Hope you feel better soon, Kimsey! 😀 Phil
Howdy Phil! Thanks for the advice that is a great idea! Definitely make it look like yep I meant to do that ☝️ 😄 It’s always nice to have new ideas and I appreciate it very much 🤝 And yep that punky wood is like man I about sanded through the side of the dang bowl or now I messed up the rim LoL Actually I did have that rim how I wanted it until i sanded and the sander dug a little deeper in spots so I had to give it a little bit of a rustic rim look, I’m feeling way better still fighting a little cough here and there, hard to stay out of the dust 😷 Have a good one buddy!
That's why we turn a lot of bowls cross-grained instead of end grain. Very creative work. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jim i appreciate it!😎
End grain is pretty tough turning
Bowl looks great super well done,
will.👍
Thanks William I appreciate it!😎🤝
Beautiful bowl, Kimsey. 😊😊 the other piece at the end is too. 😊😊👍
Thanks Buddy I appreciate it! 😎
Have a good one 🤝
Beautiful spalting in the bowl. I don’t think the dark spot in the bottom is distracting. It fits with the burnt edge
Thanks for your thoughts on it Stewart I appreciate it!😎🤝
Beautiful pieces Kimsey
Take care my friend.
Cheers, Huw
Thanks Huw I appreciate it!😎🤝
I think leave that spot as it is, it looks great, Hope you get well soon.
Thanks John I appreciate Buddy! And thanks for your thoughts on that spot on what to do 😎🤝
Beautiful! Punky is tough to turn, but worth the effort. Ambrosia + spalting=gorgeous! 😊
Thanks Jennifer!😎
It sure can be a challenge with that stuff, but like you say the grain and the spalting definitely makes up for it!
Gorgeous piece of wood. Great job.
Thanks I appreciate it!😎

Please show what you would use them for
The tall slender one was for kitchen utensils, the other I just got it on a bowl stand just to look at.
Nice work, but I had trouble understanding what you were saying.
Thanks I appreciate it!😎
I do have people telling me that sometimes, I’ve been trying to pronounce stuff better,
Don't call it a bowl- call it a "spittoon" instead! Beautiful bowl, anyway.
LOL That’s a good one ☝️ 😅
Thanks I appreciate it!😎
