I've been doing these hill reps 200M*20 every wed for a couple of months and my Park run 5Ks times have dropped from the 19s to the 18s. It's def great for improving speed and strength. I feel like I'll be in the 17 mins for 5K very soon.
Good session. My hill sprints are too short, more like strides. I need to look around and find a nice bit of road that's a bit longer. Definitely agree with glute engagement training. I run off the calves too much. Loved the cafe shots. Us runners enjoy learning about the local scene.
Thanks, Matthew, it's great to do all-out hill sprints too, I like to do 15 seconds all out, then go again after 10-15 seconds, ideally on a continuous hill where I don't have to think about jog/run back down recovery (you can also use a treadmill). This also works well on the flat. You could easily call what I've done in the video hill reps or intervals. A mixture of the two, and longer intervals will serve you nicely.
Lee, Is there a certain phase of your training where you do hill reps or do you throw them in at any point. I would imagine they are at base phase of training?
can you please share with us your weekly routine? something like your running and workout weekly schedule. we all know that race day and PB are the tip of an iceberg. there would be a lot of resistance training, muscle strength exercise, injury prevention exercise, stretching, maybe some cycling and swimming too. thank you
Love the analysis on this @leegrantham 👍 I can finally see why people talk about hill reps being so useful. I may have missed it in the vid, but what kind of frequency would you recommend incorporating hill reps as replacement to mid-week intervals? Thanks again for sharing so much insight fella. Legend 🙌
@@pixel-fudger There great. Behind the Scenes: Marathon Training Session on the Treadmill for Abu Dhabi Marathon th-cam.com/video/uS-V-0eGd-A/w-d-xo.html
Good session. Presumably this could be done on a treadmill. Maybe 2mins fast on 8deg, with 1min rest between? I'm going to use the treadmill twice a week when I'm back in Bangkok as hill sessions is something I need to maintain, especially to run up the hill to the temple in Chiang Mai in December. What are your favourite restaurants in Chiang Mai?
Yes, 5-7% should suffice on a treadmill and as you said, bring the recovery to 1min. This restaurant in the video was Downtown, then you have Good Souls, Why Not, Food4Thought, plenty to go at.
Anyone can do this Daniel, take your time and be slower at first, but with practise becoming smooth and light, with the right technique, you'll get faster.

It's powerful when you can see exactly what's making the difference. Great stuff, Bryan!

Why do you say that? What he is doing in the video are way shorter than strides. Strides are usually around 100 m and he is doing 20 m.
Us mere mortals will be happy to do that downhill !! I bow my head in awe.
Thanks, Ulf, just a short time to "suffer".
Great workout 💪
Staple!
Lee, Is there a certain phase of your training where you do hill reps or do you throw them in at any point. I would imagine they are at base phase of training?
Yes, for me it's the foundation along with stamina. Hills are the staple. I swear by hills for pretty much anything you're training for.

You're always welcome Cliff, I'd do these every other/every third week.
@@leegrantham - awesome! Thanks! In the Garmin!
@leegrantham what are your thoughts on treadmill hill reps? It's pretty flat where I live.
