Guerlain is one of my favorite houses. Even something like shalimar which is a "female" scent i wear and love. I have LIDG the older bottle without the black around the outside and it is beast mode enough for me. I couldnt imagine the extreme version of this. I heard this scent is based on the arabic drink arak and if you noticed the opening has a very fizzy feel to it all. Roja actually copied that fizziness in Enigma and Fetish and charges 500 bucks for them. Guerlain is a house so far in the future with everything they have done they are revolutionary with the first oriental in shalimar and if you are into chypre mitsouko is another female scent i adore. The story of the history of guerlain really is the history of fragrences. I have to point out something you said that i couldnt agree more with and thats why do they have to make it so exclusive? I had to buy a bottle of ideal extreme from europe because they didnt launch it in the US last year. Im not sure LVMH knows what they are doing with the guerlain brand. That being said if you like L'instant you will love heritage. Get the edp if you want the current version. If you can drop 100 bucks go to ebay and get the 50 ml of heritage edt with the gold cap. It might be my favorite fragrence of all time and is a true hall of fame frag. Now back to roja he sells danger which is 99% heritage with a better opening and some ambergris for 500 bucks. These niche houses are taking great guerlains of the past and re brandiing them charging an arm and a leg and people pay it! I know i do but guerlain deserves credit for the trail they blazed truly if you are on a budget getting l'instant, Heritage , ideal extreme , habit rouge & guerlains vetiver and you are set for life as a man! If you are a connisieur grab shalimar and mitsouko as well and thank me later. -Ramsey
Hi Ramsey! Yes, LIDGE was a beast and a half. Still wish I could score a bottle. I didn't know that about arak! I have smelled Heritage before and I love your budget list...I know it isn't Guerlain, but have you smelled Bel Ami? That one is also listed a lot on the lists with Heritage, Habit Rouge and LIDGE. I have never smelled it. You have Danger, right? I didn't know it smelled similar to Heritage. I need to get Heritage - unless they make it difficult to find. Ha ha. I will go check out Mitsuoko right now, thanks for the recommendations! Have a great week-end!
@@ThatCologneGuy i love bel ami but the current formulation isnt worth it. If you can get an original or the first reformulation of bel ami its my favorite leather scent of all time along with vintage Guerlain Derby. If you want a current formulation go for jean claude ellena's new take he created back in 2013 called bel ami vetiver. It actually smells better than the original bel ami and is more than half the price of a vintage bottle of bel ami. -Ramsey
If you spray more like 8-10 sprays on both skin and clothes, it will project for good 2 hours. That's sufficient I think. Also it's more mass appealing than the vintage. Very sophisticated, smooth and airy scent. People who hate gourmand might still love this!
Hi Shahid! Love your description - certainly sophisticated, smooth, and airy. It is sufficient, but sure would have liked more. We should start protesting reformulations. :) Have a good day.
@@ThatCologneGuy Agreed! But they ain't going to stop reformulating, we should just turn away from designer houses and turn to Inde houses, that would teach these guys a lesson!
Very informative review thank you. I didn't get the chance to try the original but I got many compliments out of this one plus it leaves a nice sillage behind me.
Thanks, Fidel! Actually, your comment made my day because my daughter and I love Scooby Doo and as you probably know, Casey Kasem does the voice for Shaggy. :) Hope you are well!
Has this now been discontinued? The people who work on the Guerlain counters all say it’s been discontinued. If so, have they released an update of it in their new square bottle range?
Hi Simon! Something tells me it has, but let me check into this and get back to you. I hope not, but wouldn't be surprised! I'll update in a day or two.
@@ThatCologneGuy I emailed Guerlain and they replied with it’s still available in the special custom 125 bottles. But sounds like they discontinued the old bottle shape, maybe they are planning to relaunch it in their new square “ideal” bottle shape.
I have just recently discovered l’ Instant EDT. BEAUTIFUL scent. I purchased the EDT, but was wondering if the EDP brings on the scent in a deeper richer way, over the EDP? Your comment prompted me to ask you. In other words, is it worth returning my EDT in order to buy the EDP?

The current edp is not even worth to mention. Longevity and sillage are very very poor. If you know the extreme version you'll never buy this piece of shit. You really have no clue what your're talking about. 5/5 is a joke. I can't take you seriously.
Hi idum! :) Thank God I didn't call this bottle LIDGE...ha ha. There certainly is a drop off in the newer version. In my defense, I give 6/5 for the very few ones that are perfect to me (like Jubilation XXV by Amouage) and LIDGE would be one, but I took off a point here for the current reformulation. I get what you're saying - but I find it has such an exquisite aroma that it merits a high score (with the point removed for the reduced longevity, etc.). If you have LIDGE, let me know where you got it, if it was reasonably priced.

Imo it's masculine but the soapyness in it seems feminine, it gives off that Chanel N05 vibe.
