Excellent work.. passion of love.. my son and I have done the same thing on his 86 XJS.. except we went full restomod.. shaved body ( no door handles, side lights, even the gas cap finger lip).. removed the auxiliary gas tank, moved the battery in the right trunk pocket,, full custom interior and trunk,, custom ER(engine room),,,, custom 2-1/2" SS exhaust, with custom headers,, full MFI kit from Mobeck,, custom high pressure plastic fuel lines,, single adjustable fuel regulator,, twin 16" super flow electric fans,,full custom auspensio,, 18"x9" rims,, etc.. don't let these beautiful cars die...

Attention, according to new judgments and changes in EU and German construction law, it may happen that deregistered cars, classic cars and even vehicles with seasonal license plates are no longer allowed to be stored in garages. The municipalities need money and send inspectors around to check whether work is being done in garages or whether deregistered classic cars are parked. ...that can cost up to 10,000 euros! It is even planned that in the future (unregistered) vehicles and trailers parked in the garden (outside garages) will be defined as structures for which building authorities will then require building applications and permits (and of course not grant them!); there will be a network of vehicle registration offices and building regulations offices take place so that building permits are requested by car owners as soon as they are deregistered!!

@@Schlipperschlopper When you quote 'deregistered' might you be referring to what we call 'SORN' (Statutory Off Road Notice) here in the UK 🇬🇧. It's when a vehicle is un-taxed and stored off the public highway.. ie. driveway, garage, private road or land.....

Really get a sense as just how much work was required to bring the old girl back to life. I am sure the satisfaction you'll get when you finally drive it down the road, will be well worth all the blood swet and tears. Thanks for sharing.

We have a press mounted to the Brick wall with a steel cage mounted to contain any parts flying off the strut assembly. It's a pretty basic operation with the press.

Looks amazing I'm really jealous that's one of my dream jags myself I would have changed the colour to the metallic red jag uses from that era

Thanks. Not my favourite colour, but it is original and changing the colour means removing the engine, painting all the internal parts - which would be a huge job.

That is very time consuming, I always took the engines out of the vehicle put them in the back of my old work truck along with the "cherry picker", that's our nickname for the hydraulic engine hoist, go to the local self-serve carwash, pull the engine out of the back of the old work truck and do a high pressure wash on the engine washing all the grease-build-up down into the floor trap, what it was made for. That method worked well for me.

well worth the effort, beautiful car. Looking forward to see what you do with the interior.
Some advice regarding filming your next build... it maybe better to just film as you go along to the finish and then when you're ready, edit and break it up into 20 minute episodes. I believe your work is worthy of that attention. There's nothing better than editing without any pressure and in fact, you can get pretty creative with it. It's very relaxing watching a good restoration. Well done on this build so far and thanks for saving this classic.

Very nice job, the front of my engine was in a far worse state than yours, which you can see on my videos, so invested in a paraffin gun and connected it to my compressor and that shifted all the grunge in no time, same with the valley. Thankfully, my subframes were in near perfect condition as is the body as a whole. She is almost ready for the MOT, but won't pass I don't think, it's just an inspection really to make sure I've done everything correctly and to correct the steering angles etc.

and always work from the top downwards when cleaning anything, otherwise you use more product and spend more time doing it. The end result though, looks very nice.

Would dry icing be a better option than brake cleaner? Otherwise looking good 👍

I’ve seen that method on Ratarossa - isn’t it pretty expensive and involves very specialist equipment? I’ll do it when I restore a Ferrari 512 BBi 🙂

Absolutely crazy. I have an electric car and I can tell you that they are not fit for purpose. The reality is that ‘they’ don’t want you to drive at all…or in fact go anywhere 😢
