I have 2400 miles on my new RT. Great motorcycle, love the engine, suspension, brakes, handling and comfort. Don’t expect the navigation, or any of the cellphone features or media features to work reliably though. My dealer in Indianapolis IN, doesn’t have the tools or training to fix any of these issues and the factory is unable to help. Great bike really bad technology execution and implementation, if you buy one of these bikes you will be on your own.

Nearly 25min video and no mention of what the new colors would actually be and you didn’t show the lovely blue RT to the back right side. An improved horn was added and not mentioned. Yes a horn. Now more than ever a better horn is mandatory. No mention of any heated elements as standard. Check out A Long Way Home, another TH-cam channel covered this in his video. Now the good..Well done with the long overdue TFT screen! The face lift and angular design looks fantastic! The white with 719 option is absolutely gorgeous. The last thing for me would be to add “back-lit handlebar switches” for night riding then it’s perfect.

I have had several RT’s since a R1100RT culminating with a 1200RT L/C which I found uncomfortable with an awkward grip angle. I traded it quickly for a GS because I Couldn’t get on with it, I have since got ride of the GS and now ride a 2019 Goldwing Touring DCT , really like the Wing but as a day to day bike it’s probably too much so would consider an RT as another bike , has the handlebar angle/ position changed with this new 1250?

Will it have the optional central locking system for the panniers and top-case? Is there to be a variety of seat height options, as before? What are the service interval and what warranty can we expect? Are we still to be short-changed in comparison to America?

    • @maxflight777
      @maxflight777 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Roger, that’s a good question. I had a K1600 for a week and that had keyless operation of the panniers. A truly worthwhile facility.
I noticed, on the video above, even the RT “new” phone storage area had a key operation. Seems like they missed a trick there ?

Pray can someone explain the flipping RT mirrors ?
I have an R1250GS HP, I’d certainly move to this new RT, they are compelling, It’s a perfect bike.
Especially if you ride many miles as I do. (21,000km +/year )
What I can’t accept, are unusual mirrors that hamper my ability to filter.
I wish it had the same mirrors as my GS !
    They work so well.

    • @Rufus-OG
      @Rufus-OG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I have RT and initially thought the same. You soon get used to the mirrors and for filtering they’re actually better as they don’t stick out and are rarely at the height of car or truck mirrors. Dead easy to lane split and IMO better than the traditional mirrors on other bikes I’ve owned once you get used to their position.

I enjoyed the video, I thought the live atmosphere was very authentic. I was just a bit disappointed that the camera guy did not do any detailed shots of the Sport model in blue, it remained in the background the entire run of the video at quite a distance under artificial light. I assumed that there would be a follow-up video showing some up close details of the different RT models and some outside shots, but there has been no follow-up.
In fact, after over three months have passed since the video was uploaded and I have yet to find any real-life shots of the "Sports" model. Since all showrooms are closed in Germany, there is no way to get a closer look. When will BMW offer a spotlight video of the new models? When will youtubers start getting review units? It would be great if you could offer some guidance.

I currently own my 5th & 6th BMWs - ‘16 R1200RT & ‘20 R1250GSA. I’ve previously owned a K1600GT & a K1600GTL Exclusive. The area for improvement I’ve always wanted is a wide ratio transmission. In the States, highway speeds are 70-80 mph, which translates to roughly 4200-4400 rpm. Both the boxer & I6 engines are superb and could easily take a 20% higher top gear. I would guess this would improve the fuel economy more than ECO mode, and would definitely enhance ECO mode, plus extend the range even further. I’ve ridden in the EU and the current transmissions are perfect as speed limits rarely seem to exceed 100 kph (62 mph). But for the North American market, a wider ratio trans would be ideal. All that said, the ‘16 will be traded in on the new ‘21 RT.

1st gen 1250RT buyers would be mad at all these upgrades. Honestly, I didn't expect the RT to get that many breaking features so quick. Rather I expected a successor for the K1600 with all those upgrades as well as an optional automatic gearbox. Auto gearbox is the only thing that I'd really be missing on such a maxed out bike in this price class. BMW has some catching up to do in their touring class bikes - the Goldwing is the better choice right now as long as the K1600 is discontinued and the only luxury touring model is available with a rumbling boxer. Not the fastest bike either. Not that I don't like the boxer, but luxury touring starts off with a silky smooth engine, which the Boxer isn't one of.

I would be interested to understand how the sensor for the tempomat will work in real life when it gets covered in flies on those long trips, also why do the engineers not extend the front fender at the rear to prevent all the road crud and stones thrown from the front wheel hitting the engine cover.

I can provide an answer for that, at least to some degree. My 2017 Prius Prime has adaptive cruise control. On a day with wet, slushy snow, the radar at the front of the car, under the Toyota emblem, will sometimes get covered with slush. The car will give an error message that the adaptive cruise control cannot function and the cruise control turns off. This would happen much more quickly than an accumulation of bugs. In either case, it is a simple task to clean off the radar unit.

There is a dirt kit available for the rear wheel as an accessory.
Furthermore the front splash guard has been redesigned to reduce dirt.

    Hello,
I say this because I wrote to my dealership, then to the district manager (regional manager) then to German BMW, and France. But as soon as we ask technical or embarrassing questions, no one ever answers. I am also administrator of an RT forum. And I am also the proud owner of a 2021 BMW R1250 RT. I say happy because it is a superb machine.
    1. I see that a lot of people have problems reading their music (Media) and especially playlists. Cannot read playlists with Android. Even after the third TFT software update. Why not just put a USB plug (like my ex K1600 GTL from 2012) to be able to read music from a USB key? Much simpler.
    2. Why does the sound increase two notches in two notches instead of one notch in one notch? Sometimes we don't have enough sound and sometimes we have too much.

Inline 6 vs a boxer twin, very different characteristics, a bit heavier bike overall with the k1600, the r1250rt is a midsize i would say, k1600 is more on par with goldwing for example. 😁

Now that the configurator is fully live, it appears that despite BMW Motorrad assuring me in an earlier answer that the compartment is standard, it isn't!! It is a very expensive Enhanced Telephony with Extended Smartphone Connectivity £250 option (not an option originally?)! Although the bike was already ordered, I definitely wouldn't have spent that, £20 will get a very good power pack to keep the phone charged if necessary. Also, as I do mainly long complicated routes in the UK and Europe (when able), the latest post from BMW Motorrad suggests that I will need to keeep using my sat nav anyway!! Still looking forward to getting the new bike anyway :)

Lots of updates ... but not the one that R12**RT riders actually needed ... the air flow winglets off the K1600. I love my 9yr old R1200RT but it gets hot as hell with no airflow behind the fairings and screen. BMW fixed this on the K1600 with the air flow winglets ... but not the R1250RT. Come on BMW ... option for some fresh air on the RT to make this a comfortable cruiser in 30+ degrees - thanks from Australia 🇦🇺 where it’s hot 6 months of the year 👍🏻

    3. Why not put the map software in the TFT, that would avoid waiting minutes for the application to connect to the motorcycle? Since the software was made in collaboration with TOMTOM. Cannot share a favorite with a friend.
    4. Why not put Apple because play as is done with the competition? We could have used Waze (for example).
    5. We the owners are never informed of anything. No information on the operation of the software? What does a new update bring? How does it work? Etc .... The dealers don't know anything either.
Despite all this, it is a superb bike, the chassis, the engine etc ..... even the TFT is good. Two-thirds, one-third of the screen is awesome. The logic of use is just poorly thought out. But that may still change. Because the K16s will have it and the R18s. This will make people ask themselves questions. ......
Thank you for reading me and a Happy New Year everyone.

On the video at about 15.50 it is stated that the right-hand pocket with the ability to plug in a mobile phone is standard, is that accurate please? I can't see how it would be possible to use the phone and the app to ride routes without the ability to power the phone? Otherwise, any day tours using the TFT and nav app would be limited by phone charge. I have ordered a new bike as I was changing my 2017 1200RT anyway, but the dealer can't find any answers to this and other questions. Thanks

Looks cool I like the new additions really improved the bike and brings it into the 21sr century. BUT THE WORST THING about the RT are the cramped ergonomics. The seat is too low, and the pegs are too high. Stop making bikes for midgets, I’m sorry, little people.

HI CPUspeed, thanks for your feedback!
The high seat is the perfect option for you. The 25 mm higher rider's seat is suitable for tall riders. The seat can be installed in two positions so that a seat height of 830 or 850 mm is achieved. Feel free to configurate your bike exactly how you want it to be. Hard to get excited about about a horizontal twin engine that has it's origin in 1924 and has a redline of 9000 RPM. I have ridden this bike and it's terribly underpowered! Just try passing vehicles on a single lane road wit this bike.
How could BMW choose the horizontal twin vs the K1300 motors? BIG THUMBS DOWN! Get with the 21st century BMW even Ducati is dropping their twins!

Its kept its engine design, because thats its trump card. Weight is nice and low in frame like no other touring bike, why fix it if its not broke. 9k redline is good considering the torque its makes low down. 0 to 60 in just over 3 sec, what the hell can you not pass at that rate, the 50 to 90mph figures probably make super cars look slow.
