I am so happy that I was scrolling and this caught my attention. I fell in love with Journey when they first began to be played on radio and MTV !!! Never had a chance to go to any concerts with Steve Perry which makes me sad, but saw the current Journey Band this year on Valentine's Day!! What amazed me about this video is that Arnel could sit down for such a long time. During the concert, he stormed all around like the Tazmanian Devil with Super High Energy and 🤯. I was exhausted just watching him. I loved seeing his chill side while he killed this vocal of one of the most tender love songs ever written. Hysterical how you didn't know that you KNEW him. If you haven't heard of Arnel Pineda, he's the guy who was seen by a Journey member singing Journey songs online and was messaged to join the group for their concerts. But before you think that Arnel is just another karaoke singing Filipino that's too many to mention. Arnel was a soloist of a rock band in the 80 and 90's so he is experienced. It helps that he sounds like the Steve Perry but other than that, he has his own artistry. BTW, ONe OK Rock is SB19 Ken or Felip's fav Japanese band and met up with them after their Manila concert recently.

My musical horizons were so limited when I was younger and I could only hear songs on Sundays when TV showed music videos on a special channel in my country...
You actually saw him on this version when his voice is already over used for 15 years of doing world tour concerts singing 2 to 3 nights every single week. You should see the concert he performed for the first time as a journey lead vocalist. this was the concert in CHILE 2008. Or the MANILA journey concert 2008. This was his prime and his voice was super sharp and you could hardly distinguish the difference between Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda.
My opinion of course ..... No one will ever be Steve Perry ....... HOWEVER. .... They were both excellent with this song ..... I'm sure Steve Perry would be pleased with them ...... Kudos
That applies to all bands, no one can replace the frontman that made that band famous & iconic with their vocals. Not just the vocals but the tone/timbre of their voice. That could be Steve Perry, David Lee Roth, Freddy Mercury, Steven Tyler, Karen Carpenter, Mick Jagger, Debbie Harry, Taka, etc. The replacement frontman/woman will bring their own vibes, but sometimes it will not feel fully the same as before, the big reason being the prior iconic frontman left a huge first impression. In my personal experience, the same thing happened to the rock band Dishwalla when they had to replace their iconic original frontman that they had for their first decade, JR Richards. Many Dishwalla fans also had the same issue & I think that is why Dishwalla now has less fans than they had before once they started anew with their replacement lead vocal, which has now been over 15 years since their changeover. 08/11/24
