This video is very honest. Yes, I could tell you it’s been a breeze, all rainbows and butterflies, and only show the really good parts. But I chose not to do that, because I like to think you’d prefer me to be honest about the ups and downs. Unfortunately not everyone in the comments seems to understand that. That’s fine - maybe you’ve never had a dog or maybe you prefer to only see perfection on social media. You can keep your judgment to yourselves 🙏 And if you have felt some of what I’m feeling - I see you! I feel you! And from what I hear, it does get better ☺️ So much love even in the tough times!! ❤️
lots of people like to think they know everything just ignore them, follow the advice and training you have learned and just stick with it and all will be well eva :). nice thing about you living this lifestyle is you can take as much time as you want in between trips to train and bond with your doggo.
Eva don’t worry. We dogg owners know what your going thu. It gets better. Raising an puppy is tough. Just try to get an daily routine. And when it get to tough try to find an friend to take care of vic for half an day. Also try to reach out to some youtube trainers for advice and guidance. Helpful for you and also for your viewers. And lastly enjoy every second. The grow up so fast.
Big change in your life. Dogs can be more demanding then kids 😀. We have 4 rescue puppies and dogs and have been through this a few times. I’m sure you’ll pull though the blues and enjoy the journey
You’re doing amazing! When I found Camper and brought him into the Prius I cried at least once a week at least for the first 6 months! It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, taking him in, training him, teaching him he’s not alone in the wild anymore, and truthfully he is still a challenge but I can tell you this… he was 100% worth the blood (literally hahah from squirrel chasing off cliffs & big falls hahah), sweat and tears! The challenging moments become some of the happiest moments. You have a best friend and a pal for life. I like to think of this a lot too, we are the only human they will know, we are their entire world, and how lucky are we to receive that unconditional love! CAN’T WAIT TO MEET VILK AND YOU! XOXOOX
Awesome comment, Nikki. I love you and Camper!! We got a puppy at the end of April and I love her but sometimes I want to punch myself in the throat bc it’s so challenging. And I have a husband, an extra pair of hands!! You girls are doing it solo so hats off to you both!! ❤️
I cried every day for about 3 weeks when I got my puppy. I called the shelter twice to bring her back. I truly thought I'd made a HUGE mistake!!!! But here we are, 8 years later, and she is the absolute love of my life. It took time to figure out how to navigate our lives together but once we did, it was pure magic. You'll get there!!!!!!
I perceived Eva as a very strong, empowered, confident and courageous woman and for that I admire her so much. But what I admire most is she’s also not afraid of showing her vulnerability. That’s honest, real, and she’s also human. Carry on Eva as you’re such an inspiration. Will be here with your journey. Cheers!
It really does show a much more intimate look into how substantive these challenges she faces actually are. Experiencing amazing adventure and witnessing the surreality of beauty around the world, is not an easy feat. Well said…
Almost 12 years ago I was where you are with your puppy. Today, like everyday for all these years he paid me back for any stress or difficulty he ever caused. It’s like you’re putting energy in a love account that pays you back with interest!
I'm 62 and all I've ever had are German shepherds, many types like eastern, western Czech etc. It does get better Eva and your time and love will pay off. Through him, you will automatically become more aware of your surroundings ( where he looks, you'll look) and when he gets bigger, just the look on his face may deter any bad people from bothering you. My wife and I are so happy you found him. We always worry about you.
I'm 42 and have always had Malinois since I was elementary age. Two that were mine and that I always raised from 7, 8 weeks puppies (my parents were products of the 70s and 80s, and loved animals, my dad got first Malinois male (Flap, import from France) when I was 6 and I made it mine, it was my dog, he got a female (Katie) and made that one mine too (constantly with me where I went, spoiled em), then on in my family the Malinois were always mine). Got two now (one under my feet/desk, the other plopped against side of my chair). I miss their puppy days, for the most part - but Malinois, being Malinois, and I hated caging mine (I'd be gone, 8, 9, 10, however many hours at work and I hated the idea of cooping them in a cage for all that time), so every set I've had destroyed a couple houses (and one college apartment) in their early years (doors - including sliding glass ones they learned how to take off the track, carpeting, walls, appliances, furniture). I'll do it again, and again, and again, till day I die. its just part of having dogs (at least the kind I get). They're always devoted and I'm used to them always being there, and I'll never give that up.
@Greg B - she is. It is a slow process, and both side are learning to read each other. Some people overthik this too much. At the end, this is an animal you have to take care of, protect if you have to, a member of your "family". Also driven by instincts in a lot of cases, so you have to remember that too. And dogs are good at reading a body language too, the same with most animals, even facial expressions, tone of the voice, and so on. They will know if you are excited, upset, happy. At the end... the puppy is responsibility too. And you have to know that at the end. It will all gets better. Taxing experience after few days/weeks? Nah. Not even close. For him, for the puppy you will be there for all of his/her life. And you will be there where the dog/cat/any other animal will die too. And you have to be there for it, at this moment. But for you it will be just a short part of your life. So learn from that. And in a way, learn from each other. Edit: grammar
I am 73 and had dogs all my life, best advice I have always followed is. Ignore bad behaviour but generously reward good behaviour with love and treats especially when puppies. Never "punish" a dog with physical abuse, or isolation, as it will only manifest as aggression or nervousness, just be firm but fair with your voice if he steps out of line, and reward him immediately when he does the right thing. That way he will respect you as his pack leader and WANT to do the right things and follow you to the end of the earth. Socialising with other dogs while a puppy is also very important, so they learn the boundaries of play and manners to older dogs etc.....the majority of dogs are very good and very quick to work out the boundaries...if they are allowed to. My current15 year old Lakeland/Irish Terrier cross (Frodo) is the best companion I have ever had, so well behaved that sometimes it is almost embarrassing, and gives unconditional love back six fold.....even does therapy rounds at the local old peoples Care Home Looks like you have already formed a close bond, and as fellow travellers he will love it you will soon be inseparable.
I have a soon to be 15 year old bushland terrier who is also ridiculously well behaved, except for 2 things. He occasionally goes nuts if kept away from a dog he wants to smell. He is obsessed with the smell of hazelnut ice-cream and will try anything on his power to get it. He jumps on chairs, tables, flings himself at us & generally forgets how well behaves he normally is 🤣 Apart from that he's socially astute, quiet, asks to go the toilet, is very loving and has a keen eye on the patterns of the day. Stuff like getting his toy bear and bringing him upstairs to his bed when he feels it's time for the family to go to sleep. He is a huge personality in a small sturdy body
As a person that has owned several dogs, let me just say this. Vilk seems like a good puppy. Soon you will be able to take him on your runs. I encourage you to get him started ASAP. As much as you travel, it can only benefit you to have him with you at all (most) times. As he matures, he will become your best friend and guardian. Loyalty is what you will eventually end up with, with Vilk. And on a positive note, the runs will make him want to crash afterwards giving you a new time slot to edit your post's 🙂
Imagine yourself watching this footage in like 5 years when a mature Vilk and you have already lived a huge amount of experiences together. What a great adventure companion you just got!
Dogs teach us many things and as a puppy it is called patience, When they grow up it is loyalty and unadulterated love. It all pays off 10 fold in the end.
I have myself 4 dogs and 2 cats, all rescued from various places. The amount of love I get from them is something I can't put into words. Indeed, I have to wake up very early, give everyone their fair amount of attention and I basically built my life around them and their needs. It's not an easy journey but the rewards you have from them is incredible. Much love Eva from Cora, Nero, Bebe, Oreo, 3-legged-dog and Lady.
Your honesty with the ups and downs is one of the things that makes your vlogs so special!! Don’t let the “know-it-alls” get you down, please. We are all imperfect, and it’s often that imperfection that makes us special.
When I got my puppy (also a working line GSD), I cried a lot the first 6 months. Now that he’s 6 1/2 years old, it’s so much easier, but I also feel sad to see him aging. The time has passed so quickly. Try to appreciate the moments even as hard as they are because it goes so quickly.
Having spent most of my life with German Shepherds Dogs (GSD's) I can tell you that the things that make them a lot of work and that cause challenges when they are puppies are the same things that make them intelligent, faithful and the best companion a person could ask for. Puppyhood is a small part of their life and believe me, you'll look back on this time with great fondness and find yourself wondering how it went by so quickly. The best part is that they seem to retain the qualities that make them so adorable and loveable as puppies throughout their entire life. Enjoy the puppyhood for as long as you can.
Hang in there. Getting a puppy is a lot of work, especially with a working line GSD! But it’s worth it and it does get easier. I’ve always compared it to having a new born for that first little while. You’re both doing great and before you know it, it won’t seem like work anymore and you will have yourself the most loving, loyal best friend as a companion. I look forward to seeing your progress together!
Hi, Eva. I would suggest you get a ramp or ladder for him to get in and out of Odyssey, he will be doing it at least 6 times a day, probably a lot more, it could damage his joints. It is quite normal to feel overwhelmed, but to me it looks like you're doing fine so far :) I would like to offer another advice, especially for having Vilk off leash, if no one else already suggested it: find a secure, fenced in spot (it can even be a house), stop near a tree or some big object, ignore him so he gets bored and starts to investigate around and, when he's not looking at you, hide behind the tree. His eye sight is poor, so you don't have to be invisible. When he'll realize he lost you, he will panic a bit and start to search for you. Preferably wait for him to find you and, when he does, make a big deal out of it: treats, toys, ball, etc.; if he can't find you and you see him take off in some direction, call him back, before he gets too far, so he doesn't get lost or something (this is why it is important to be in a secure area, where he can't actually get lost), and then try again. Do this a lot, in as many places as you can. This will teach him that, if he's too focused on other things, he will lose you, so he will begin to keep a close eye on you, you should find it more and more difficult to actually get away from him, which in turn will mean that he will not get lost or something on a hike, HE will the one keeping track of you, and making sure you don't "escape". Hope this helps ! Good luck with the little one :)
@@ooOxeniaOoo Vilk comes from working gsd lines and from the very little i've seen of him, he seemed pretty confident, at least for this type of "stress".
Thank you for normalising the first few weeks of puppy life! I was so overwhelmed the first few months I had my boy - there were many tears. But with lots of perseverance, many more tears, lots of laughs he is now an incredible 3 year old who is the best buddy ever. You got this!
I don’t know what its like having a puppy but it sounds exactly like having a newborn. When you were overwhelmed and teary, it was exactly how i felt once i had my newborn at home. That feeling of loving him so much yet wanting to escape for a few hours, that’s exactly how i felt with my baby. You brought back memories! I would say its the lowest i have ever felt with him.
I sat in my kitchen, on the floor, after 2 weeks with a 2month old Ozzy (puppy dog) and thought - OMG what have I done. He is 2 now and I love him to bits. It does get easier. Dogs always need “looking after”, but the puppy stage is way more full on than a grown dog. Use the support of others if you can to have a rest. You WILL wonder how you ever lived without doggo eventually, me and Ozzy promise 🐶 😘
Welcome to pet ownership ....my dog is 13yrs old now and she came back into a puppy pretty much...I lost my whole 20s raising her, but I don't regret it. One of the best moment of my life having a dog..stay safe and stay strong Eva
This is just the training phase; you got this!!! When he's older and well trained you'll get the reward of a lifetime. Hang in there!!! P.S. You're doing a great job!
I came here to say essentially the same thing. Puppies ARE hard. That is IF youre actually doing the work. The good news is, all of that effort does pay off. Youre going to have a wonderfully bonded and focused dog who will be up for any challenge you put before him. The breed is brilliant, but yes a TON of energy. Thats great for you and your jogging though! I have a large pair of dogs in our Fifthwheel fulltime (pretty much a similar RV and Layout to the one you saw in texas), and we DONT jog everyday... So we got lazy breeds. My wife worked SO hard with them as puppies and theyre pretty well trained. Theyre enjoying the life on the road. I do know that German Shepherd dogs can be pretty people shy and not like strangers if theyre not socialized a lot early on. Perhaps thats the goal if youre more interested in personal protection, But sometimes a non-socialized dog can be a right pain in the butt. HAHA. Good luck, Eva. Youre doing great!
I remember a short time ago you told us you were going to do things different. This was so you could enjoy life. It seems like you are still pressuring yourself to give us what we want and forgetting...we are here still. Take your time, enjoy it a little bit more. We aren't going anywhere, quit trying to please us and then we will see you at your happiest. Give yourself a little bit of credit, your audience is here for you.
My first time out walking my little puppy Luka, I remember feeling exactly the same way as you. I passed a little old lady at the park who said "You two have so many beautiful walks ahead of you". That comment has stuck with me through it all and makes me smile every time I think about it. Now Luka is 10 years old, we did indeed have countless incredible walks and adventures together and I look forward to many more. Look ahead, you are right now asking yourself "what have I done" but in no time you two will merge into each other's lives. You are doing great :)
Eva, Vilk is absolutely gorgeous! The first six months are the hardest but trust me, worth every second. I’ve had German Shepherds all my life, now on number seven and you couldn’t have picked a better breed. My girl I have now just turned eleven and she’s the dog of my dreams. ❤ You got this! I never had human children, only German Shepherds. Love your channel
This dog will grow up to be your best friend and your fiercest protector! I can tell you're trying really hard. Trust me the effort will totally pay off 🤗
I've raised working line GSDs I know what you are going through. You can do it, and it'll be worth it. The first year is tough, and a steep learning curve but you will end up with the smartest most loyal companion ever. I've raised other types of dogs and worked in animal shelters. Working line GSDs are different and other dog owners wouldn't get it. Join a local schutzhund club, they will help you a lot! Also it will be a good chance to socialize him, it's so important to get lots of socialization in at this age so they don't grow up aggressive towards unusual people or dogs due to fear later.
We talked about maternal bones and decided we are alike. Ours are for puppies! Sweet to hear you say you are on constant look out for him not find ways to do injury to himself! I still have 3 of his siblings so it's all day making sure they stick tight with me on the farm so I know what they are doing. His other siblings are doing swell chasing mops and following the wee kiddos around. But girl when you went jogging while we boated the lake with him, I wish could have seen the separation anxiety on your face twice! I know without a doubt you love him! You are a good dog trainer, too! He's doing great with his commands. Wherever you are you know this is you and Vilks second home. Safe travels!
I’ve found it helpful to get a trainer. My dogs were able to cope with everything, it was me who required the right training. It made our life very easy , more relaxed, really good.
It is a significant duty! You will have conflicting emotions, especially if this is your first time getting a puppy, but once you have nurtured a puppy, you will have trained him/her really effectively. IT'S A GIFT, the joy you see in every dog is priceless! We all know you're a good person, and you'll make an excellent furparent, EVA! Take it one step at a time. You'll become obsessed to adding lovely dogs one day.
The first week I had my puppy, I was so stressed and sleep deprived I almost rear-ended someone. But it got better and now my baby is 9! I savor every moment since she’s getting up there and she’s such a good dog. It was worth the time, love and training. I love her so much.
Very true. I was exhausted with Schnee the first months aswell. And hopefully you will gain a lovely cuddle Buddy. She is so cute. Also, other dogs can be great trainers, so when she is old enough take advantage of the dogparks in America. I haven’t found one here in Germany yet. :-/
@counselthyself Excellent video and @Eva I think the Whistle is a great idea for future times when Vilk might stray further away form you than he should 👍
My dogs are alot older now and when I look at their puppy photos I realize that I have a smile on my face. 14 years now and I wouldn't trade a single minute for anything. Please don't worry, you'll be a great dog mom
We recently got a second dog. We thought it would be easy because he was 3 years old and we are experienced owners. Just like you, we seriously underestimated the time and effort and patience involved. Owning a dog is a tremendous responsibility. It is a both a time commitment and an emotional commitment. You will get thru this! You have a great puppy there. As you've no doubt heard its very important to train them and set boundaries. Of course these things take time.
My Golden Retriever is just over 5 months old and some days can still be tough but it gets so much better. He will get it. That bond with discipline is all it takes with persistence. We are cheering you and Vilk on!
Echoing so many comments here, but raising a dog is possibly the most difficult thing I've done! I thought I was prepared from having a dog growing up, I thought I did enough research. But I was crying almost every day some weeks with our puppy. It's an enormous adjustment when you're used to your routines and day to day life. You're doing great and I'm glad you found some comfort from reddit and a trainer to reassure you. (And to anyone else out there struggling with a pup, please find a local trainer, please reach out to people! You don't need to beat yourself up about it and suffer alone.)
Eva, we are watching your vlogs because they are real and genuine and interesting. You travel the world, have adventures and experience life. Life is not perfect. Emotions make our experiences real. There are youtubers, instagrammers who travel and show only edited, processed, beautiful shots of their lives which is cool but sometimes it may have a toxic impact on us regular people and our self worth. I am so happy that you show the real life with all your struggles as well as wins. This makes your life intense, real and inspirational. This is what life is really about. I hope you don't put pressure on yourself to put out content no matter what though. Make sure you experience life first (as a nr1 priority) and then you can decide to share some of it with us. When it starts to feel stressful to put out content - take a deep breath and take a week off. We will be here. Enjoy the experience of raising a puppy. You've got this!
You are perfect the way you are: a loving, caring, smart, cute, determined, plant based doog mom. Dog parenting is hard but it gets better, I pawmise. 💚
This is the part about social media that I think is scary for anyone with a soft heart - you don't ever have to be perfect Eva. As a matter of fact - it is your imperfections that MAKE you the perfect EVA. We love you. Don't be so hard on yourself - you're doing amazing things! Anyone in your shoes would feel exhausted. xo
I do recommend a Harness instead of a Collar. It will make it easier on you when he gets bigger. As for you being "perfect", we do not watch you because you are perfect. We watch because you NOT perfect. You are a normal girl with normal problems. THAT is what we love. Whatever you do, keep being you. 💖
i think she plans on training him to be off leash by the time he gets older- also she already has a harness for him, you can see it while hes in the car
I totally get what you are going through, last year i got my self a pupper, it was mad hard at the start but now i dont see my life without him, he is my family "period" he is my son and i love him to the end of the world, it is tough in the start but it will 1000% get better and ul remember those days when he was smol and miss those hard days.
Aw thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, I know 100% it’s worth the investment in terms of energy, time, and attention. Love the little guy. Sending lots of love to yours⚡️
Thank you for your honesty, Eva! i adopted a stray dog from Romania 2,5 years ago and whoa - was I tired/exhausted/overwhelmed for the first year with her! My perfectionism + her unknown past and trauma = no easy combo... But it's gotten sooooo much better now through patience and positive training, as it did for you and Vilk 💕 I feel you!
Oh my god! you are doing an amazing job! you will form such a strong bond with Vilk - you will go through the 'what have i taken on / what the hell have i done?!' stage but it's so worth it -
Slowly but surely you will love this experience as time goes on and everytime you feel sad your pup is going to be there to bring back happiness and joy ❤
One of the best videos I have seen in the recent past. Hope your love for Vilk stays strong forever. Take good care of him always and forever as you are doing now.
Enjoy this ride! Be patient, your little furkiddo is going to be one of the best experiences in your lifetime, and everything you are experiencing is all good!! We're cheering for you and Vilk. Such a lovely doggo!!
Vilk is absolutely adorable!! Congrats on the awesome addition to your pack! Puppies are most definitely a ton of work and it can feel so overwhelming at times, but the hard work really is all so worth it. Having an amazing bond with a dog is an incredible feeling.
What you are sharing with us Eva is real life, your real life through the lens of an adventurer!! Of course not everything is going to be rainbows and butterflies. Especially now that you have Vilk, it’s tough raising a proper puppy and it is a ful time responsibility in the begging. Keep at it you are doing great and don’t forget you need a little bit of self care through the day too. You are a great inspiration!!! Good vibes Much love
As a seasoned GSD parents, we laughed when you went to porta-potty and asked “where will this lead?”. Eva, you now have a GSD…..you will never be in the bathroom alone again!
Traveling with my 2 dogs right now . Took them down from my motel room at 7am to go out . Went back to my room. Found a tick in the bed that the dogs brought back in . Make sure he is treated for fleas and ticks . Try to take him out every 3 or 4 hours . For the type of traveling you are doing he will be a great body guard . Training takes time and consistency. A little bit at a time many times a day . Dogs learn from just being around you . If you are calm they will stay calm . They can read your moods . Best of luck and don’t get frustrated . He will pick up on that .
Eva, for whatever it's worth, perfection is a goal, not a destination. My mother didn't or couldn't understand that and it destroyed her from the inside out. She was never satisfied with herself or those around her. And it made her a bitter, angry, and spiteful person. What you're going through right now is normal, whether it's with a puppy, kitten, or a human baby. ESPECIALLY a human baby. You end up having to put the rest of your life on hold for a while as you get this new life up on it's feet and prepared for the world. Once you get past this, things will get back to normal. But don't let it make you question who you are. Just try to look for the light at the end of that tunnel where you'll have a long-time companion who will also have your back.
Eva.. You are doing an amazing job as a new dog mom. They are like having a child.. Your life does change, but it won't last(the hectic part). That's is what life is about: changes, adjustments, and resilience. You can tell that he was meant to be with you and you were meant to have him. Things will get better and that little guy will be your best friend..💞
He's a beautiful doggy! Dogs are just giving you their unconditional love. When they're puppies it looks different from when they are grown. Hang in there!
Vilk is such a beautiful dog! The more exercise he gets, the easier it will be for you. He will release a lot of that pent-up energy with exercise and will become a well-rounded and well-behaved dog. It does get better and you're well on your way to having a best friend share your experiences with you, for years to come! 🐕🦺
When we first rescued our dog, I cried every single day for three months. People rarely talk about the adjustment period and how hard it can be. Your life is upended and your time doesn't feel like your own. But it gets better over time! You and the dog will both grow and adjust to each other and settle into your new norms and routines. You got this!
Give it time Eva. I am a dog trainer and each puppy is different. Teaching him crate time or alone time is important for both of you. Everything in small increments. You are doing a great job of researching and getting good tips on training. In one year of time you will wonder where that little ball of fur went to and he will grow into the best companion you ever had.!
We appreciate your openness, honesty and authenticity. That's why we love you! We don't want perfect, that just wouldn't be real. Thanks for all you share xx
Whenever I feel overwhelmed I imagine sitting with a good friend having a coffee listening to them tell me the same frustrations and what my advice would be...and then give that same grace to myself. So hard...we expect far more from ourselves than anyone else! But you are doing a great job!
My first puppy that I raised it was love at first sight, and he was so calm and sweet, a perfect angel honestly I had no complaints. Second one - same breed, got her from the same lady - was a totally different story! She was so hyper and took me a while to adjust. You’re not alone. Once they get past that puppy craziness they are your ride or die best friend for life
Hi Eva, thanks for your honesty. Many will probably judge you for being a bad owner or unprepared for the dog's needs or something. It is the internet, after all, so thanks for being so candid on video. The truth is it's often a learning experience for both of you, and everyone has to start somewhere. You will both learn to cope with each other! You are committed and want the best for him, and this is what matters! If I may offer one piece of advice (it is the internet after all), make sure he is WELL socialized with other dogs and strangers while he is in the accepting puppy phase, this will help you a lot later on down the line. German Shepherds can grow suspicious of anything they don't know after that period, and he may try and protect you from these things you might not need protecting from, like a passer-by saying hello, or another dog (or a cow 😉). Good luck. I hope I didn't add too much to your current stress levels. 😅
Great advice! Socialization within the first few months is essential, particularly as Vilk is going to encounter so many different situations. And best guided by a qualified trainer.
Absolutely, every shepherd owner I’ve ever known, which is a lot, failed to socialize and got a possessive dog who was very guarded and not necessarily friendly at all. Socialization early and often is paramount. Best of luck!
Two things for me. One: my montanan heart absolutely swells with pride everytime you say how beautiful the state is. 😍 And two: having a tiny puppy is SO MUCH WORK but worth the effort!! Keep doing research and asking for help when you need it. Can't wait to the next adventure!!
Honest, aunthentic, and beautiful even in the hard parts. That’s what we need more of and why I appreciate your vids. Love is not always fun and easy and pretty. Sometimes love is ugly crying and being frustrated and still being present and doing what needs to be done. You’re doing great kiddo! Proud of you.
Wonderful, heartfelt, honest video. Looks like you are doing a great job, and I think getting input from Rachel and some of your friends with puppies likely helped calm some of that "what was I thinking?" anxiety. Vilk will add a new texture to your travelogues. Cheers.
I went from puppies that destroyed my house because I didn’t know what I was doing to mature well behaved dogs and now to elderly dogs that will be leaving me soon. I would give anything to be back to the wild puppy days with them. This is heartbreaking.
Eva, thank you for sharing your vulnerability. It is real, raw and helps us journey with you. Raising a puppy is much more than what we originally think it will be! The amazing thing is that they grow up so fast and then sleep longer and are less demanding and become a loyal, best friend. Keep marching on with this wonderful journey called life! You have an amazing attitude, a great sense of adventure and exciting future ahead of you. All the best in your journey !
When I got my dog, I was a bit disillusioned with my choice for a while. This had nothing to do with my dog in the sense that I loved her. And it made me feel guilty among many things, which made me feel inadequate and questioning if I could give her, or even would give her, the happy life I imagined. That's something I still question to this day, but I would say that getting her taught me how to love in a new way. She taught and continues to teach me and as difficult as it was at times, you will learn to grow as a person and realize new importance in your life. What's important and what's not, and find yourself looking back at these things and how insignificant and even selfish the things were that overwhelmed you. I say that not with criticism, but with self reflection, that is likely what you will conclude. I have no seen and done as many things in terms of traveling as in this channel, but I think that as human beings, often what is missing is sharing these experiences. On your own, it's still as if you're watching a movie, living outside yourself as time goes by. But when you share experiences with someone or something, like even your dog, you really begin to realize how significant that is in our short lives. You learn how essential being useful to other people and other things is in providing meaning and contentment. And I don't mean getting taking advantage of, I just mean how good it feels when you do things for other people, share things etc. It's so different from doing for yourself, which for me always felt empty when it was said and done. If I went and saw something beautiful, it was just that....like I saw something beautiful. But when I shared it with something, I didn't just see something beautiful....I felt it. I understood it. I appreciated it. And I felt what can only be described as joy.
Wow when you said you were getting a dog I 1- thought it would be a rescue dog, and 2- something small. I know this is probably to as the security factor when travelling but that little guy is going to be one big dog when it’s grown. Good luck, it does get easier and after a while you’ll be able to sit back and enjoy the morning coffee again
Puppies are a ton of work! But it is a super rewarding experience and Vilk will be an amazing co-pilot, friend and protector. It is worth the effort, hang in there.
The first few weeks I was feeling overwhelmed and like „what have I done! Is this our life now?“. Be proud and happy how he is already following you around. As soon as I unleash my dog, he storms off to look for the next exiting thing and „hopefully“ returns to us
You just have to be more exciting than what ever your dog is focusing on. Bring his favorite toy and a pocket of treats. Always be practicing on your dog's recall training. First with a long leash and eventually off leash. Without a strong recall you put your dog in danger from other dogs or traffic, or other animals in nature. Training always has to be number 1 even when they are old as the always need to be sharp and attentive to you as alpha. Dog pack mentality is how you have to see your relationship as, not buddy buddy. That's when things get tough with a dog.
Your authenticity is so refreshing. It's the reason I follow you. You are so independent. And I knew this would be a huge life change. It's like having a child. Great to see you discussing this. Sleep deprivation is real...makes you emotional....Personally I can't do it. Can't handle another being looking at me and wanting every bite of food. So I love on other peoples' dogs. ❤
I totally understand that feeling. You know you’re a good doggy mom though when you worry so much about the care of your dog. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed and to take the time to process this time period. I felt this significantly when I bought my mare. It took me months to actually feel like I was accomplishing something, anything. In the end, we had an incredible bond and built each other’s confidence, but it took a while to get there and was not an easy road. The same is true for dogs and I really love how this episode shows that.
Your doing great! It’ll get so much easier. When he’s older your gonna miss his puppy days 😊 but your also gonna love having a well behaved & awesome companion. Good times ahead!
I love how you love your Wilk. The fact that you showed your imperfect reality made for more compelling viewing. I think you are going to do just fine. It sounds like you are taking all the right steps to be a great doggy mama! Anybody who thinks otherwise can go . Wilk's a lucky boy.
the first 3 months were a huge adjustment. i also have a very intelligent and high energy dog and the intensity of managing/training full time was overwhelming and i was in tears a lot. it’s so good to have some separation and self care outside caretaking a puppy-also good for training/avoiding separation anxiety. you’re doing great! this is a normal part of the journey. my dog is 5 now and i can see now that all the love and effort and tears and joy in those first couple months totally paid off. excited for you and your bonding with vilk! sending you the best:)
Never, ever try to be perfect! Just be you. When I see so called "perfect" on social media I know it's a lie. Things get stressful and hard sometimes but that is real life. You're doing great just keep on keeping on!
so relatable!! I was soo exhausted when I adopted my dog and he was not even a puppy but a very scared rescue dog. I doubted my decision a lot at the beginning but now we are sooo happy. Cant imagine my life without him. You got this! You are doing great!!
Puppies are all wild-and-crazy. He'll grow up fast and eventually calm down, and you'll look back and treasure the memories of him when he was young and energetic. Dogs pass through all the stages of life all-too-quickly. I've never known a human I could have a 14-year relationship with, day-after-day, and still find totally loveable.
Ahhh memories. When I first brought my puppy home, I said to myself, "Oh my, what did I do?" Mixed emotions everywhere. It was challenging. My puppy would not even let me take a shower without her in the room with me. Almost 10 years later and she's still the best thing that ever happened to me.
Getting that dog is making all your emotions surface from the breakup and whatever. I know it's a year ago but that was a good thing. Healing. Look at you now.
Hi, Eva. The first few weeks of owning a puppy can be quite overwhelming.🥺 You're both learning who the other is. You, as the responsible owner, are also setting aside your normal daily and nightly routines to take care of this precious new life in your world. I also got my first pup when I was an adult and the disruption was almost more than I could take. However, my wife and i found a great trainer who explained that the way we felt, and what you are feeling, is absolutely NORMAL. Give yourself grace and you will see what a blessing Vilk will become in your life! May I also recommend ABCamping channel on TH-cam? Tony takes his buddy Bruce camping and they show how rewarding having that type of companionship can be on your adventures together. I look forward to watching the two of you grow into your new relationship. Good luck, God bless, and welcome to America. P.S. Apologies you've come during some of the darkest times in our history. 😢
Believe me…… ALL of us parents cried exactly like you when our kids were newborns and we were sleep deprived. Thinking we were the worse parents. But, as time passed. Things got easier (Until they become teenagers)🤷🏼♀️😂 None of us would ever change anything about becoming parents or pet parents. Try to stay positive and welcome to being a parent. 💕💕💕💕
You can keep your judgment to yourselves 🙏
And if you have felt some of what I’m feeling - I see you!
You are doing your best eva…and that is all that one can do❤️
Eva don’t worry. The grow up so fast.
get it Eva! Its easy to judge.
XOXOOX
Camper is amazing because of all the ❤️ and attention he gets. You have a great dog.
Awesome comment, Nikki. I love you and Camper!! We got a puppy at the end of April and I love her but sometimes I want to punch myself in the throat bc it’s so challenging. And I have a husband, an extra pair of hands!! You girls are doing it solo so hats off to you both!! ❤️
Camper’s an amazing dog, in spite of his squirrelsphobia😁
U 2 shoud meet and make a memorable video together .
Nikki!!! You and Eva should totally meet up for a dog walk!!! you guys are both in the usa for the first time ever
You have a best friend and a pal for life. You are the one and only in his life.. Never let him down.. 👍 Greetings from Denmark.
When the puppy matures and starts staring deeply into your eyes, the journey is complete.
Yes!! Its such a satisfaction to see your pups grow and obey but most importantly, that connection and that stare man... Melts your heart.
I always found it creepy when animals stare at me lol.
you will have complete instructions to fill the dog bowl, regularly.... yup, just from the gaze in their eyes.
@@Atrayus1984 on some primal level, they wonder if you taste good.
@@curiousbystander9193 HA, I knew it!
Oh I am so happy you persisted! You guys must have an amazing bond. Lots of love❤️
@@evazubeck a dream puppy should not be a nightmare 0:37 you'll be ok 18:44
So true....the same happened to me. But I persisted and Max is the love of my life.
Well said…
Empowered by what?
Absolutely agree the payoff will be 10 fold. He will keep her safe .
Yesss the first year is soooo hard, but when they become adults they become completly different. I have now 3 dogs and they are now so polite
@@laurabf777 The good part is that pup's first year is equal to babies first 6-8 years.
@@marchuitt I love it. Those are amazing dogs as well Marc. The hard times today are what we laugh at tomorrow.
the bond between human and dog is unbreakable ❤
Vilk is probably thinking, "She's so much more work than I was expecting!" 😁 Don't beat yourself up so much; you're doing fine.
I wish Vilk the best of luck. With patience, he'll probably get Eva to do what he wants in time 😁😛.
@@safe-keeper1042 - Exactly that! At the end, in a way, we are the "servants" - especially with cats :)
He looked more like a wolf pup when he was smaller before his coat shed and changed a bit.
My current15 year old Lakeland/Irish Terrier cross (Frodo) is the best companion I have ever had, so well behaved that sometimes it is almost embarrassing, and gives unconditional love back six fold.....even does therapy rounds at the local old peoples Care Home
Looks like you have already formed a close bond, and as fellow travellers he will love it you will soon be inseparable.
I have a soon to be 15 year old bushland terrier who is also ridiculously well behaved, except for 2 things. He occasionally goes nuts if kept away from a dog he wants to smell. He is obsessed with the smell of hazelnut ice-cream and will try anything on his power to get it. He jumps on chairs, tables, flings himself at us & generally forgets how well behaves he normally is 🤣
Apart from that he's socially astute, quiet, asks to go the toilet, is very loving and has a keen eye on the patterns of the day.
A well trained dog represents 1000's of hours of training from day one, everyday.
Mine is going to be 9
Having spent most of my life with German Shepherds Dogs (GSD's) I can tell you that the things that make them a lot of work and that cause challenges when they are puppies are the same things that make them intelligent, faithful and the best companion a person could ask for.
That means so much. Thank you ❤️
Hi, Eva. I would suggest you get a ramp or ladder for him to get in and out of Odyssey, he will be doing it at least 6 times a day, probably a lot more, it could damage his joints.
It is quite normal to feel overwhelmed, but to me it looks like you're doing fine so far :)
I would like to offer another advice, especially for having Vilk off leash, if no one else already suggested it: find a secure, fenced in spot (it can even be a house), stop near a tree or some big object, ignore him so he gets bored and starts to investigate around and, when he's not looking at you, hide behind the tree.
This is a good tip for confident dog. An insecure dog you'll traumatize with that "trick". Most trainers don't recommend that anymore.
@@ooOxeniaOoo Vilk comes from working gsd lines and from the very little i've seen of him, he seemed pretty confident, at least for this type of "stress".
@@mirceaparvulescu7925 I agree :)
Yea, hip issues are big dog issues when they start approaching senior years...
Welcome to parenthood! The joys outweigh the challenges! You’re doing great! 💖~Cara
Having a dog or wolf-dog puppy is NOTHING like having a human newborn.
Aww thank you for that ❤️
Not sure where you're at, but in the USA we call them "Aussies" :)
One day, Vilk will go on runs with her!
Few days and she's already crying and whining.. She don't got this
I came here to say essentially the same thing.
Omg yes!!! This all the way. We are along for Eva's ride!
Thanks for that! Yeah looking forward to hanging out with other dogs once Vilk is fully vaccinated!
THIS!!!! 👍
have you seen her videos? do you think she's ready quit? lol, not a chance
So true. Trainers help with the dog but pur trainer said he is really training us on the psychology of the dog and techniques to use.
Yes, Totally.
Don't be so hard on yourself, the struggle is part of the journey. Cute pupper, he will love you for ever.
Ah so so lovely to read you ❤️ Thank you for sharing!
Very true. I was exhausted with Schnee the first months aswell. And hopefully you will gain a lovely cuddle Buddy. She is so cute. Also, other dogs can be great trainers, so when she is old enough take advantage of the dogparks in America. I haven’t found one here in Germany yet. :-/
@counselthyself Excellent video and @Eva I think the Whistle is a great idea for future times when Vilk might stray further away form you than he should 👍
He's so energetic he brings energy to your vlogs he will never leave you alone ❤️you are an amazing mother
Lol try children
As a mother of 3 kids, I feel you 💛 the crying, the nonstop energy, the struggles, trying to get time for yourself while kids or dog sleeps 🙈
Well said 👌👏
The Little Guy is just beautiful.
Seems like he is learning fast, too .

You are perfect the way you are: a loving, caring, smart, cute, determined, plant based doog mom. Dog parenting is hard but it gets better, I pawmise. 💚
Staying in one place, a cabin in the woods, is good decision to allow the puppy to acclimate himself to his new world.

There’s beauty in imperfection! This is what your little puppy is teaching! To let go of all that! Back to earth. Thanks for being so real!
Vilk is absolutely adorable!! Congrats on the awesome addition to your pack! Puppies are most definitely a ton of work and it can feel so overwhelming at times, but the hard work really is all so worth it. Having an amazing bond with a dog is an incredible feeling.
Some people match their dogs quite well. I think this guy is perfect for you!
Good vibes
Much love
Gorgeous animal. You're his world now. wishing you both much health and happiness together.
Raising a puppy is tough but so incredibly rewarding! Hang in there Eva! You got this!
Once they get past that puppy craziness they are your ride or die best friend for life
OMG my puppy was so much more work than I ever expected. I was exhausted all the time. I’m glad you care! Keep on inspiring us to do hard things!
Thanks for that! This is indeed my plan - once he is fully vaccinated in a couple of weeks! ☺️🙏
Two things for me. One: my montanan heart absolutely swells with pride everytime you say how beautiful the state is. 😍 And two: having a tiny puppy is SO MUCH WORK but worth the effort!! Keep doing research and asking for help when you need it. Can't wait to the next adventure!!
They can feel the energy you put out.so relax and confident.
Cheers.
They definitely help! Thanks for tuning in!
I went from puppies that destroyed my house because I didn’t know what I was doing to mature well behaved dogs and now to elderly dogs that will be leaving me soon. I would give anything to be back to the wild puppy days with them. This is heartbreaking.
💗💗💗
All this stress and hard work is SOOOOOO worth it Eva. Hang in there.🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾
Eva, thank you for sharing your vulnerability.
Nice self reflection and growth 👌👌👌💖
Sorry I couldn’t read it all
A few months of challenge for years of joy. Worth every moment
I don't know but , it's super cool watching you , and not only me the whole family is here, keep going waiting for the next one Papppyyy
WTF THIS IS STRAPA
L'est Fucking GO
I love how you love your Wilk. The fact that you showed your imperfect reality made for more compelling viewing. I think you are going to do just fine. It sounds like you are taking all the right steps to be a great doggy mama! Anybody who thinks otherwise can go . Wilk's a lucky boy.
Such a beautiful dog. Glad you found a companion! Dogs are amazing.
the first 3 months were a huge adjustment. i also have a very intelligent and high energy dog and the intensity of managing/training full time was overwhelming and i was in tears a lot. it’s so good to have some separation and self care outside caretaking a puppy-also good for training/avoiding separation anxiety. you’re doing great! this is a normal part of the journey. my dog is 5 now and i can see now that all the love and effort and tears and joy in those first couple months totally paid off. excited for you and your bonding with vilk! sending you the best:)
Exactly. They age quickly.
Ahhh memories.
When I first brought my puppy home, I said to myself, "Oh my, what did I do?"
Mixed emotions everywhere.
