Brilliant idea, much simpler than the other.

Yeah I was trying to make it easier and quicker. It didn't bother me that it took a lot of time with this first one figuring out how to make it work.

Interesting trap! Wouldn't think to trap birds, more likely to pelt a rock at them and hope for the best 😂

Hahaha yeah at one point in this build I was thinking that would be the better option.

Always interesting to see people improving primitive traps. If you are serious, sharpen the fork ends leaving nothing for the bird to land on. I realize you don't like boring holes, but if you either bore a hole or split the perch stick on the end you would be able to put a small branch with leaves on to make it look more appealing to the bird or maybe just to us humans, haha. Last, you need to use a weight that is heavy enough to control the bird without tearing the legs off when it is yanked into the cross piece which would allow it to fly away. Hope to see you catch a minor bird. Great video.

Thanks for the comment. When I was making this trap in my mind I was thinking of seagulls on a beach with this trap set with some fish skin or something as bait. In my thinking it wouldn't matter if the bird landed on the top of the pole to start with. This would allow them to be more relaxed when they hop down onto the baited perch. If the trap was intended to be simply a perch out in a field then definitely sharpen the end or put a small leafy branch on the top to make it look more natural.

Not everything works out as we plan the first time, and knowing and accepting that is part of getting things done. Come up with an idea and then just get on with it, learn, modify and adapt as you go to improve and make it happen. Cheers 👍🏽

Nice one Rob. Personally I have no idea what the rules and regulations are when it comes to trapping animals and it probably varies from state to state, but in a survival situation.... I'll do what I have to. That's one more for my arsenal. Thanks mate.

In QLD we can't even shoot a crow let alone set a primitive trap for one. Only bird we can trap is the Indian Myna and that has to be done in a way that if we catch anything else it can be released unharmed. Mammal is limited to feral cats, dogs/dingoes, foxes and rats. And again must be done in a way where if an Australian native species is caught it can be released unharmed. I'm currently working on a super cage trap build that can be used in multiple ways, is light weight and portable. But yeah in a real survival situation there would be nothing off limits.
