Another solid week mate, to run a 33:41 in training like that showcases amazing shape. I agree with the turbos grip, I find the same in mine... wonderful shoe but super slick in any sort of slippy conditions!
Thank you! Yeah great shoe - for summer! :) (I saw your video on your race shoe - which was excellent - and I’ve filmed but not edited yet a similar one which comes to the same shoe conclusion as you! Looks like we’ll be racing in the same shoe!)
Wow, that sub34 10K! Nice that you could paced it so well. Looks like all the work is starting to pay off! As somebody else commented, my first thought on the high heart rates is also that is because of the cold weather. I sometimrs experience the same with my Garmin HRM Pro at cold days, but weird enough not always when it is cold.
Thanks for that tip. I prefer it under my elbow but you’re right - it’s definitely better on the bicep. Even then though, I was having some very strange readings this week. (Which is slightly annoying because it puts all the Garmin stats out of whack!). :)
Another great week of training. I've sometimes had issues with the coros heartrate monitor when it is getting low on charge? I can usually get a few runs out of it between charges, but have found if it gets low, it can give funny readings
I've put about 70 miles on my Superblast 2. They're fast but not very comfortable for me - my pinky toes were wrecked after a 14-mile run. I use the same size as my Adidas Adios Pro 3, which fits fine, so it might just be these shoes. Also, they're pretty loud!
I have only run literally 1 mile in the Superblast 2. And I didn’t love them. They sounded slappy and weren’t massively comfortable. Again, I’ve only run a mile in them but I didn’t immediately love them.
Great content as always (don't forget to upload to strava 😉) My highest Garmin exercise load is 448, which was a 20x 70" session at sub-3:00/km pace off 50" rest (no a/c at the gym that day). I've found Garmin favours shorter, higher intensity sessions when giving a greater exercise load, whereas Strava tends to give a higher 'relative effort' score to longer efforts. Strange that they don't correlate.
Will do!! :). You’ve been doing some major treadmill sessions recently. Congrats! That’s a great score!! Crazy. I think my Montreal marathon was about that score!!
I only use the Coros watch, and I felt maybe one day I should upgrade to using the arm HRM as well, but seeing your experience and those of other commenters, maybe I will just stick with the heart rate monitoring from my watch. I've gotten pretty believable data from it so far, and certainly not these weird periods of super high heart rate.
I had some weird issues with my armband too (Wahoo Tickr), and I switched to a Garmin HRM chest strap. Congrats on the sub 34! It seems to me you're in a sweet spot to reach your goal!
The speed up 30 seconds and speed down trick on the treadmill. Haha. I always silently wondered if I’m the only one who does that. It seems so stupid but it works for me too. 😅
I really really like the Puma DN3. So much so, I might actually race in them. I got some Superblast yesterday and only ran a mile in them but I didn’t love them (after a mile). Found them a bit slappy. Maybe they need to wear in a bit.
The Coros heart rate monitor might have been matching your cadence. I’ve had mine for about 6 months and it’s happened twice. Just flip it around or hold it up off your skin for about 20secs & it comes good. I reckon you will love the SuperBlast when you chuck in some speed on a long run (they can do every speed). Keep up the good training. Remember your toughness training for the halfa 👊👊
How can it lock in on cadence when the sensors are reading changes in your skin/blood vessels? I could understand if chest strap would but not an optical.
Thanks for your comment! Love this. I’ll definitely use your trick and see if that works. Yeah to be fair to the Superblast I literally ran 1 mile. Definitely not a proper assessment.
I have the original Superblast and I'm not a fan either. But I have found that they are best at tempo pace or faster long runs. At easy pace they just suck the energy out of me.
I’ve heard that v2 is better than v1. But I felt that too. I did 1 mile (only) so I have barely even tried them at all but they felt a bit awkward to be honest.
Agreed! That’s a good point. I worry about that for the wrist especially. I think when the skin is cold it doesn’t read properly. (Which is why I bought the band - I tried and hide it under layers of clothing…)
Superblast is a great shoe, but it really tops out at HM/M efforts, beyond that it's just too much shoe. The cold weather isn't helping the on foot feel either. As for the treadmill workouts, you unfortunately need to take all those numbers with a HUGE grain of salt...that gym treadmill probably gets worked to death, so the display paces are probably nearly useless. This is where the Stryd pod would help really quantify your runs, it becomes very apparent how good/worn a treadmill is using the pod. Even my own treadmill (used only by me) will vary in pace due to GCT. My easy pace is nearly 15sec/km off, but once I speed up to 5k pace, it's nearly identical since my GCT is so low the resistance is greatly reduced on the treadmill. Optical HR wise, I found mine works best if I put the sensor over a large muscle with better blood flow. I used to have it on my tricep head, but due to how how much I sweat and high salt I literally bled during Chicago marathon and took it off around 40km since my day is already determined. I've moved it to my high forearm and it's caused me zero issues. Although I use an older Polar OH1 unit. But I have heard good things about the Coros...so unsure what might be going on there. I moved on from Chest HRMs, since I now have permanent scars on my chest/lats from chaffing. Hoping Houston goes well for you, interested to see the post race data from Stryd PowerCenter.
Thanks for this comment! Yeah I definitely take the treadmill numbers with a grain of salt but the effort was definitely there and I guess ultimately that’s all that really counts! Superblast I literally only ran 1 mile so I’m looking forward to taking it through its paces. I think you’re right on the COROS. I’ve been really impressed until recently but it’s been less reliable lately. I really like wearing it below the elbow but I don’t think I’ll be able to do that anymore. The problem with the chest strap is that it can easily fall and then it’s impossible to get back in place without some effort. COROS has been great until recently though.
That’s a fair point. Rest and speedier shorter runs are the priority now. Plus I always wanted to take the training right up to the last minute for Houston because I have Mesa 2 weeks after so if I’m a bit tired for Houston, that’s ok.

Good stuff! Nice 10k on the tready! Race day coming up and you are fit!
Thank you!! Excited to see what it brings!
I just missed you on Tuesday! I also watched the eagle eat its fish! I would say we could have run together but you would have lost me in 10 seconds
Great fitness!! I have the same Coros and I find it's more accurate on my bicep. Make sure it's fully charged, I have had similar issues.
Thanks for that tip. I prefer it under my elbow but you’re right - it’s definitely better on the bicep. Even then though, I was having some very strange readings this week. (Which is slightly annoying because it puts all the Garmin stats out of whack!). :)

Thanks for that tip. I’ll keep an eye on that. It’s definitely been playing up a bit this week…

I have got a couple of times weird data from Coros and i switched the location of the band to my bicep. Since then all okay. Awesome 10k btw ...
Thanks! That’s a great tip. Usually with a bit of fiddling I can get it to work properly but it has definitely become more fiddly recently.
I am miles away from being this fit, but great job!
That’s ok! My best friend ran the Olympics and we’re all putting in the same effort! :)
I had some weird issues with my armband too (Wahoo Tickr), and I switched to a Garmin HRM chest strap. Congrats on the sub 34! It seems to me you're in a sweet spot to reach your goal!
How are you finding the chest strap? My worry with a chest strap is that it can fall easily and when it does, it’s a pain.
Fingers crossed!! :)
Thank god we got a new manager, nice run.
Ha ha! A fellow eternal suffer. Don’t want to make this a football chat but I’m not convinced about Potter. I hope I’m wrong…
Whoa those shoes felt cluncky and noisy even by watching the video. I had the same feeling with the Asics Superblast 😢
Yeah I’m not a heavy runner but I wasn’t sneaking up on anyone that day…. :)
The speed up 30 seconds and speed down trick on the treadmill. Haha. I always silently wondered if I’m the only one who does that. It seems so stupid but it works for me too. 😅
Ha ha. Love it. Gotta do whatever works! :)
Im routing for ya!
Thank you!!!!
Great effort! What's your Garmin Connect name? I'm training for a sub 3 marathon and would enjoy seeing your Garmin data.
I’m on Strava but my Garmin connect name is also Global Runner I think!
Great treadmill session!! Were you wearing the Puma Deviate Nitro 3? If so, how do they compare to the Superblast 2? I'm considering buying a pair…
I really really like the Puma DN3. So much so, I might actually race in them. I got some Superblast yesterday and only ran a mile in them but I didn’t love them (after a mile). Found them a bit slappy. Maybe they need to wear in a bit.

Blood pressure and heart-rate goes up in the water , my coros band is not accurate sometimes , most of the time it s ok
That’s true. I think that’s why the pool run is always such a tough workout according to my watch!
Could just be the cold weather screwing the HR sensors

Well; in my opinion this effort is to high just 2 weeks out for your HM; try to rest enough.
