The "Näcken" a water troll, represents the untamed forces of nature and the isolation one feels from being different. His music brings life to the natural world, but he yearns for the beauty and innocence of paradise, a place he can never attain.
In north mythology(Sweden), the "Näcken" is a water creature that lives in rivers, streams and lakes. He sits out on a rock by a rapids or a waterfall and plays the violin. Näcken tries to lure people into the water with his beautiful violin playing to drown them.
So if you bathe in a northern lake, be careful!

Tveitt wrote a symphonic poem about a similar creature (Nykken) who appears as a horse and lures a young man to hop on it's back. They take a wild twilight ride which ends with the horse leaping into the water and drowning the young man....Here you've emphasized the seduction of the beautiful music made by Nacken. Very beautiful...fortunately our brook in Vermont has no resident troll.
