Since I’m a newbie this year . I backplan in my planner this year . I use a white board first then on Sundays I transfer it to my planner . Then decorate it some . Love your ideas 💡 for spreads .

So I'm 2 plus years late watching this video but I died laughing when you said "what if someone tries to frame me" lol and then I read a comment about how someone shed's so much their hair could be planted at a crime scene lol😆 I've thought of that too....just glad I'm not the only one! By the way Mary Ellen, I'm quite the introvert & don't comment often but I'm trying to change that this year....love watching your videos!🥰
An hour and two minutes! I’m happy as a bug in a rug. I’m sitting here “improving” my seasonal sticker storage and watching/listening to you. I LOVE your after-the-pens. When I worked, I planned/my schedule day-by-day. Then I would decorate at the end of each day. It was the start of my decompressing after busy/stressful days. I’m heading back toward that way of planning now so I don’t expect my planner to be beautiful. But it will be fun to get back to planning in a manner that I have used most my life. My memory keeper is a BIG and I’ll just have to use that as my pretty spread. That is the cool thing about Happy Planner. All our systems work. And if we change our minds, that is okay too. 💕
OMG! I am the same way with phone calls. I hate making them even though I am extremely social. I feel you.
I'm so happy to hear i'm not the only one who back plans! I usually write my daily list on my phone and transfer what I did into my planner because...same girl, what if I'm framed for a crime lol! But seriously, I love reflecting on my day in my planner and also flipping back to those memories of what I did as well (even if it was absolutely nothing) :)

I love everything about this spread! I don’t have a lot going on this year either, mostly because of Covid. So I fill up my days with cleaning, weather conditions and Netflix 🤷🏻♀️
I just watched the tutorial an hour ago. Truly enjoyed it, especially seeing Bumble running around in the background. lol
After the pens are my favorite. Your spreads are always so beautiful.
I only backplan. My "planner" is more a memory keeper. Events go on my Google calendar. I use todoist and anydo for tasks and I have a daily planner on my desk that is pen only.
Same! Mine’s more like a journal.
I also put my appointments in my phone because my calendar at work syncs to it too. So it’s my master list and it also allows reminders to bing which can be super helpful but I still paper plan and always have. The paper planner covers appointments but also to do lists, brain dump, memories and more. It also just solidifies things in my mind when I write them down. I’ve been a paper planner since I was in grade school so I can’t stop that habit 😝

I don’t have a lot going on and I like it that way. My kids are now adults. I wish that The Happy Planner was around when my kids were young! My planning style is similar to yours. I’m in a classic catch all and I use a pocket rings for on the go.
I wish the same. I was soooo much busier then and really would have enjoyed it too
Thank you for this video. I too enjoy documenting things even if it is after the fact for the sake of proof that I have accomplished things. I can often feel like such a failure even if others do not see it that way...I also can relate to the life balance thing. I either work well and suck in personal life or personal life is good and suck at work success. Thank you for your rawness. You are inspiring. ☺️

I LOVED your video! I find that I decorate my planner on Sunday's, then barely look at it thru the week and end up forgetting to do things. I think I'm going to try to look at it every day and plan daily. I love how you fill empty spaces every day with what may seem non-essential at the time, but in the end, it looks great! Thankyou for sharing your week with us :)

You’re definitely not crazy cause this is exactly how I plan! I use my phone to jot down appts and my things to do then I backplan and fill it in later! I thought I was the only one though 😂
I’ve really enjoyed this video, I’ve had it on whilst I’ve been doing next weeks spreads and making samples for my next tv stamp release, so thanks for the company! 😂. I back plan a lot too...... I find it useful for remembering when you’ve had telephone conversations etc, especially if you are having trouble with something. For instance we are having problems getting a refund from our old energy supplier, it really throws them when I can say exactly who I spoke to, at what time on what day. I love having all the details written down ....... like you say..... just incase someone wants to frame me for something! 😂 that did make me laugh! Xx hope you are well xx
I have trouble filling my planner all the time. I love you weeks- they are always so pretty and neat. I also love it a bit of a memory keeper. Trying to do that with my classic
ALWAYS love your videos❣️ I do like when your after the pen videos. They are helpful to me 🥴 I like hearing about Ally and Mike and all of your plans, etc. You do amazing spreads. I switched to a big in July after my classic ended. I hadn’t written in the classic for at least the last 3 months I had it 😬 As a result of the switch, I love the extra space for my lists AND decorating space!!!!

This was so much fun to watch. I only have a dashboard layout - but have ordered a vertical - but could only get a classic size. You are my main inspiration for all layouts. Thanks for sharing, Mary Ellen! I also like to back plan, & my planner is typically more functional than decorative. I started using a Big (DIY monthly) to keep track of my foster kitties, but I'm finding it difficult to decorate it 😅 It's the perfect amount of space to have both, but my decorations always look haphazard.
I LOVED this video! Yes it was long, but I had to laugh at myself… we are so similar! Yes I write a separate list of my lists already written in my planner! Yes I think what if? Then I have a record. I don’t like empty spaces and like to look at my planner filled up. And yes my work stuff gets done and the phone calls… not so much! See!! We’re not weird we just have “creative” minds. At least that’s what I tell myself !

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who would think about “what if scenarios” that would require an alibi! Also, Mojo JoJo Plans (I think that’s her channel) has lists of various categories of stickers and in which HP books they’re in. She offers free printables and updates the lists. Yay!! Loved watching and listening to this after the pen!!🎃
I plan in a similar way, with a mixture of back planning and things that need to get done. Also, I enjoy watching “I Survived” as well! Super intense at times but so inspiring too.

I found that I was spending too much time in the evenings flipping through stickers trying to fill in my planner and not getting anything else done... planning my to-do list but not doing it! Now I just pencil in stuff throughout the week like if we got dinner from someplace or I started a new medicine. So on the weekends I end up finishing last week’s spread and starting next week’s. P.S. - I also need a new vet, mine closed permanently. Thanks 2020 😒

I always love your after the pen videos. This is no exception ☺️. Whichever microphone you used was so good. I never really noticed a problem but I did notice that you sounded so much better! BTW.. I always back plan too. I consider my planners to be memory pages as well a planner.

New sub here, not sure where you live but if you are near any farms... they can feed the pumpkins to their pigs and chickens even if you carve them. We have a rescue near us that asks for all the pumpkins

I just LOVE your after the oens. They are my favorite. I totally get the back planning. I started doing that during quarantine, and it helped me realize how much I actually do that I don't co sider "priductive". I switched to a dashboard layout which I like because I like having my week all on one oage, but I am struggling on how to use the other page. If you wanted to try your hand at a classic dashboard spread and help a sister out, i would be appreciative. 😁

You should pull all of the plain black boxes from every book to have on hand. Rongrong has a lot of them.
I had that same issue. I usually at least minimum two planners one for work and one for home. At this point I have to a least have a classic 4d because of my five children and me and my last child have medical issues that require a lot of doctors appointments. Since 2018 I haven’t used a big and even then it wasn’t all filled up. So I ordered slot of A5 inserts and disc bound cause not everyday is busy so why waste paper just for a few months in the year we Kuhn have 10 or more a month appointment then the rest of the year it lowers! But a classic is to small for the kids academic but ok will figure it out one of these days!!!🤗

I flip through my book/books to see which sticker captures how I feel and put it on my page, usually in the sidebar, and I use that sticker as a jumping off point for the week, then I plan as I go through the week pulling from the same book or coordinating stickers from other books as needed, because I end up getting Analysis Paralysis when trying to figure out which days might need stickers and which size sticker it might need, yadda yadda. Yeah, Grade A overthinker right here. LOL I also fill the spaces with stuff that doesn't really need to be put in my planner because I consider my planner as a snapshot of my weeks, sort of. Plus I have the tendency to get down on myself for "not doing anything" and this way it shows me what all I DID manage to get done. :D

I enjoyed your zoom class but got a bit worried when you started talking about items from Target in case Michaels wouldn’t ask you to do more if you didn’t promote their products. That’s why I asked about your fave planner products! Are you a Disney Princess fan or just buying the stickers for your channel?
I only talked about getting the shelves and bins at target because someone asked me where I got that stuff. Honestly don’t think Michael’s would fault me for that. I talked a lot about the carts at Michaels and other products so no biggie. I do like Disney princess stuff but I’m not a crazy princess fan or anything lol

What does after the pen mean please?
It just means a video or photo showing how I used my planner functionally and wrote in it
I have so many questions! But first, what if you have 3 meetings/appointments on the same day? I don't think I can fit them all in a small box. Or what if you end up with an appointment on a day that doesn't have much room for an appointment (Friday)? I love this more relaxed approach to planning vs having everything written chronologically for morning, afternoon and evening but I wonder how you can be sure you have space for any meetings or obligations that pop up.
That’s why I use a big happy planner. There is always space. I make sure to leave enough room for things popping up
