To an American earning dollars or a foreigner from a first world country, the Philippines is CHEAP... but that is due to the purchasing power of the USD, Euros and other currency. However for people living in the Philippines are not earning the same money, hence locals would consider their cost of living as expensive.

Thanks Stephen & Taylor for your support , love and interest in the Philippines... and if you wish to visit the country, you're most welcome! I think, poverty line is quite improving this time compared to Nas daily figured in 2020, and also proud to tell you that natures and beaches here are one of the best. Just to tell you, there are now 9 American bases in the Philippines ...

The latest poverty incidents of the Phippines is 22% a little improvement from the data that was used by Nashdaily which is may 2020 figures. The survey may have been got with a big percentage coming from Metro Manila where there are big concentrations of poor people living in slums areas but there are many cities and provinces where poverty incidence is much more smaller than in the National capital Region.

@ 14:50 you asked, "how did it get like that though?" with respect to the poverty in the Philippines. It's due to corruption at the highest levels of government. I am 72 years old and can't name a president and/or his cronies who did not steal from government coffers. Thank you, by the way, for featuring Filipino artists in your channel.

Just FYI. Salary from US and the Philippines are way toooooo different. But inspite that, we also helped our countrymen. It doesn't mean you watch Nas video help our people doesn't mean we don't. Just sayin' based on your reaction. We don't rely on Americans/ foreigners help, it's just happened that Nas wants to help. And we are grateful.

Also please keep in mind. Its especially cheap if you are to bring money from the US or other powerful country. Buying power alone says a lot already. And the big difference is "cost of living". It surely will be a lot more cheaper if you are from the states and is converting your USD to Philippine peso. While local people in the Philippines are not. Same thing goes to other countries you go to that has lower currency value than your own.
    Just saying...

In the Philippines we have a government agency called DOST-PHIVOLCS (Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) they are the one monitoring all the active volcanoes in the country.. volcanoes tend to give signs before eruption occurs so the said department will able to give prior notice to the people in the area... And if it was an active volcano there is this so called danger zone where people are not really allowed to build their homes along the danger zone..

Mt. Mayon is not like Vesuvius which obliterated the city of Pompeii. The eruptions are quite small, sometimes people feel tremors, and sometimes just ash columns, though the government had identified a permanent danger zone when the ash columns are deemed dangerous. The most destructive eruption of Mt. Mayon was in 1814 which destroyed the town of Cagsawa in the province of Albay

And btw, we have a department of volcanology here (PHIVOLCS) that monitors all active volcanoes in our country (just as our national weather bureau also monitors the weather) as we have a lot of volcanoes here, the Philippines being in the Pacific Ring of Fire. These bureaus are also tasked to give appropriate warnings to those that might get affected by these natural calamities.

The Philippine government does all the initiatives of building people's houses through the National Housing Authority (NHA) in the past few decades, but the problem is that after few years that it was awarded, people would sell their houses and go back to how they used to live. People need continuous education, "teach them how to fish rather give them the fish" as they say.

There are governemnt programs that gives out help like 4Ps and housing as well.. The problem is, these people are from the provinces who opted to live in the Metro area and we all know that Metro cost of living is expensive so they build their own squatter areas made of shanty houses out of plyboards and stuff.. So there it is, it's their own choice, not the governemnt to cram themselves in an area they cannot afford and they do not belong.

As of the moment that 25% poverty rate declined already to 15.5% as of 2024 data, and that number goes down yearly and many of those who live on those slum areas are being relocated by the government by building 1 million houses per year by the current administration. Many of slum areas no longer exist anymore and being transformed to urban developed areas. No country is perfect it takes time for a country to become fully developed

A cheese burger that cost 2 dollars is normal in America but a cheap snack in the Philippines that regular Filipino can easily afford cost around 0.66 dollars. It sounds cheap for Americans because their salary are much higher than Filipino salary. Some doctors and most nurses in the Philippines go to America just to be a newbie nurse for a bigger salary. It's not like Philippines isn't helping them it's just hard and it's taking a while. You can compare America and Philippines that need help and you'll see it's not as bad as America.

pls remember our country is the most disaster prone country in the world, due to this our govt cant build cheap houses in any location that is available. it will just be a waste of money. building and housing codes prevent these from happening. safety is a priority here due to the yearly disasters we have, earthquakes, volcano eruptions, typhoons and tsunamies. even we are nature blessed we still need other countries help in lessening climate change since Philippines is almost always the 1st to be affected.

This is a great reaction. But I'd like to comment on one point. I was born in the Philippines and have spent most of my life there. And I can definitely say that the Mayon Volcano doesn't erupt every "3 to 5 years" lol. Somebody must have mispronounced it and the vlogger heard it wrong lol. I think the volcano erupts every 35 years. And if you say "every 35 years" out loud, it is possible somebody thought that it was "every 3 to 5 years".
Somebody might have commented about it in others reactions, but since I haven't seen one, so I am pointing out the misunderstanding. Thnx.

Well, poor citizens in US are being subsidized by the Government. If not the Government it might be higher than the Philippines. Pilipinos have no help coming from the Government. They work so hard to change the situation.
