      Blaming the media is a way of deflecting from the fact that the consumers are the problem. They've become more radical and more polarised.

      Yes, candidates also used to disrespect each other. But we did not make a national spectacle of it. We didn't encourage it. We didn't laud it. Everyone considered it "dirty," something you did but did shamefully. I don't think there's any shame attached to it anymore.

      In that Obama - Romney Debate (2012), candidate Jill Stein (Green Party) was handcuffed and shackled to a chair in an undisclosed location along with her VP candidate - Cheri Honkala - for 8 hours for the "crime" of attempting to participate in said debate which she recieved U.S. tax payer govt. matching funds expressly for. She was told it was "a private event" ... the U.S. Presidential Debate.

      Every presidential candidate is subject to scrutiny from the media and from political opponents, and if there's anything to criticize, then it will be exposed and criticized. The difference with Trump was that there is SO much genuinely wrong with him. If the media appeared to "jump on his back way more than any other presidential candidate", it's because they had good reason to. And now, even more so.

    Saying Donald Trump was the downfall of civilized debates is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I’m 33 years old and cannot, in my adult life, remember ever hearing or watching a debate or political campaign that did anything except attempt to smear the credibility and reputation of the opposing candidate. And since we’re on the subject of credibility and reputation, the media as a collective has lost every shred of theirs in the last decade through political bias and sensationalism. To call it poor journalism is an insult to poor journalists everywhere.

    What this clip overlooks is how much the parties themselves drifted apart over those decades, with identity politics and culture wars meaning that whatever little was still in common amongst the parties being eclipsed by the gulfs - and worsening attitudes - between the sides in question
    When your very identity is, rightly or wrongly, viewed by the other side as being inherently immoral or a threat to the nation's existence, decorum becomes an unaffordable extravagance that is detrimental to looking after the very well-being, let alone mere interests, of the people whose votes you represent

    Donald Trump was the best thing to have happened to this country. Calling out Hilary like that is the least he could do and I’m not offended by it at all. About time someone stood up to her malicious behavior.

      Yeah it’s also why we outlawed wearing armour in the commons
      But also just generally our politics is not yet as polarised as American politics where it’s not actually about the politics, we may be headed there though with people trying to start culture wars and deregulation
