One becomes recognized as a great important artist based on some of various factors, but it's never because they are good, skillful, knowledgeable, or popular. The whole of the art world is business controlled by politics and the desires of the few who have money and power to control. Many wonderfully creative skillful artists have been totally ignored and discounted.
