this will heavily reduce the problem where ling campers start waiting with a slashing strike to find a combo opportunity

It should be like of ironclad. Your slashing strike has unlimited time but if you miss one attack also then slashing strike will disappear
Another thing they can do is that Now Slashing strike needs 2 successful attacks to be activated
So Slashing strike should take 3 successful attack to be activated

I'm a low rank new player and I went against a passive Ling like that.. It was the worst.. He would wait me to rush then use basic attacks and then use the slashing strike.. He was a player named Warrior.. But I had the last laugh cause I played so careful next 2 rounds.. So satisfying to beat an opportunistic person like that
