I have an Atari 65xe but this gave me the ability to play some games that required a 130xe. So I really like it.

Very Nice overview of the Atari 400 by Retro Games. I have quite a few 400,800 and 130xe machines, but this serves a purpose also. As you point out, no magic smoke from 40 year old capacitors when you decide to go Berzerk for a bit.

Amazing hardware , designed by the father of Amiga and his team, Jay Miner. The first home computer to come with a custom graphics co processor and an actual blitter , hardware sprites ,scroll and scaling, PCM capabilities on two out of four sound channels, Svideo output, build in self test interface , a screen saver and.....a Reset button(most of the above became a standard for the industry for many years). Most homebrew ports of the system look and play better even compared to the C64's ports. (like Stunt car racer, Prince of Persia, Space Harrier, Trax(chaos engine), Total eclipse, Yoomp!, Bomb jack, Pang, Assembloids, Bosconian, Electra glide, PacMan arcade).

I have to say the 400/800 spec is pretty impressive for 1979.
