  • Review of our Chausson 640 after 2 years owning one. A true and frank review of our experience owning one.
    We were amazed at what problems hit us at the first habitation service 12months on, we were told these were common faults and are reported back to Chausson via warranty claims.
    It took Preston caravan and Motorhome’s nearly 12 months to sort out the warranty issues and have still not completed all our issues to date. We have now accepted the fact we will have to live with the rest of the problems.
    The cushions were turning green in colour that we think was a chemical reaction from the protection coating.
    We have taken out the electric table because it was always in the way and replaced it with a portable fold down table.
    Thanks for watching and please comment and share to help promote our videos
    We are now due our second habitation service in December 2020 so are very concerned of what the outcome will be.
    Don’t forget to subscribe and thumbs up if you enjoy the video thank you

    Enjoyed your review after a couple of years use. We have the same van from new in 2019 and love it. Like you said all Motorhomes have their problems and ours have been different to yours. Fortunately EmmBee in Bury have been very good at sorting issues out. Interesting thoughts on the table, it does get in the way sometimes but we love the flexibility between a full raised dining table and smaller coffee table at a low level. Would also give the van a 9 out of 10.

    Thank you for your review. This is good to hear that the warranty works even if not through the original dealer. This is the van I am eagerly researching as my van of choice when I move to Europe (from Australia) in 2026. To buy in France, I will need to start the ball rolling (ordering) by the end of 2024. I haven't been able to find the dimensions of the garage anywhere. Could you please measure it for me? I am thinking do I place an e-bike on the back, or can I fit it in the garage. I want to also organise the garage with multiple storage boxes (will look like Lego) for efficient storage. Kind regards, Stuart

      Sorry, we have now changed the vehicle to a Rapido Dreamer D68. We find this slimmer down those narrow lanes. Thanks for watching 😁

    Hi love your review of the 640 Chausson my wife and I have just bought one which we love ....it’s our first motorhome we never even had a caravan before so we are total “newbies” Our 640 came with the similar spec as yours...solar panel, mifi and in the past it’s had the same gas system as yourselves although the previous owner took out the tank for his new motorhome so at the moment we are on calor.
    Now if you could help us out Can you tell us what size tv you have and which make would you advise us to get. Also which provider do you have for your MIFI I wasted hours trying to get Tesco mobile to work but no joy, I at the moment use Smarty just to connect to the web.
    Thanks in anticipation we really love our Chausson...its width is taking some getting used to but what makes us smile is that when we are driving along nearly every other motorhome driver waves so of coarse we wave back😊😊😊
    Cheers Gordon and Sheila

      Hi Gordon and Sheila, we have the Avtex pro series tv 21’with a fire stick. The stick allows multiple movies if you follow on TH-cam how to download. The stick is powered by the tv. The new Avtex connected series has apps built in for all catch up tv. You can use any 12v tv but the best is the one that uses the lowest power. For WiFi I use a Huawei MiFi 4g unit sim free around £50 and have a gif gaff SIM card controlled by an app on my phone. 80GB for £20 gives us a month in the Motorhome watching tv streaming every night. There are other plans and you can change upgrade downgrade anytime, if we go for a few days we get £5 plan. GiffGaff works on the O2 network and I have had no problems getting a signal anywhere. It’s great to let on when you see like minded people. I have had a lot of questions about carrying my scooter, look out for my next video when I will be showcasing this. Hope this all helps and good motor-homing safe driving 😀👍

    Thanks for the review as we are looking at the Chausson! Our only uncertainty is getting in and out of the bed at night for the facilities! Do you find it awkward getting across the other person to get out of the bed? Thank you 🤩

    Hi Jim, watch you and Katy all the tie and love your reviews etc. Waiting now for a review of your new van, coming soon I hope. By the way how easy is it to remove the table. Cheers.

      Hi Keith, thanks for watching the channel. The table is very easy to remove, you will need a cover to go over the hole though, I used a thin baking tray then covered it with the carpet. Screwed 4 screws to hold it. Hope it helps 👍

    Great video very informative, thanks! We're about to get a 630 - where did you get your refillable gas done? Is it an underslung tank and do you have "normal" gas tank as well, that you can switch between if necessary? That's what I'd look to do (we're in Leeds). Thanks

      Hi Paul, with our Chausson we replaced the calor Gaz bottle with a refillable system. The Wildax comes with a built in gas tank.. hope you enjoy your new van good luck and thanks for watching 👍

      I don’t know any other Chausson dealers, so I would Google reviews before purchasing. Hope this helps 😀

    Good video guys. Love this model. Is the MIRO on your model 3131kg ? And the payload 369kg ? I was trying to find out what Chausson actually include in the MIRO. Such as some fresh water, fuel etc etc.? Do you guys cope OK with the payload figure ? Thx in advance.

    • @jimandkay
      @jimandkay  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The way I worked it was, the sticker in the garage said 150 kg so I added up everything at the back axle and kept under 150 kg. You can afford to put weight at the front axle to help distribute evenly. We found 369kg was ok for us. Hope this helps 🤤👍

    Hi there thanks for the information as we are looking at the same motorhome. Which windows leaked water? Cheers Phil

    • @jimandkay
      @jimandkay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Phil thanks for watching. The two longe windows and both garage doors. When I say leaked, the water was literally running out. They had to be taken out new internal boards and refitted. I was told by the repairer that chausson and Elvis are known for this. Hope this hells everything else is fine and it’s a great drive 👍

    Hi guys watched your vlog with interest as we are looking to purchase our first motorhome and ‘currently’ we think? The Chausson 640 would be the one that ticks most of the boxes, do you have any suggestions. Thanks William & Nancy

      Having motorhomes for over 35yrs and everyone different, go to the shows and sit in all of them until you get the layout right. We bought and waited 14 months for our latest van, We went for single beds made up, so we don’t have to climb over each other, we wanted a good shower, didn’t need an oven ( we never used one in the last 3 vans) wanted a diesel heater and refillable gas bottles for Europe. A large solar panel and 2 batteries to keep us on the go and we carry a power pack for 240v. Try to make a list and follow your dreams, the Chausson was a really comfortable van, we didn’t like the table in a static place though, we found it a little large of our driveway and touring small roads, overall 8/9 out of ten for us. Good luck with your choice, thanks for watching our channel. 😃👍

    Hi guys, I realise that your review of the Chausson was three years ago but I have a question. We have just picked up a new Swift Voyager 540 which has an almost identical internal layout to your Chausson 640. Like you we have found that the electric drop down table to be a pest and in the way. My question is how difficult was it to remove the table ?

    • @jimandkay
      @jimandkay  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was easy on the Chausson, unscrewed the base, release the wires at the base, screwed a baking tray ( flat one) over the hole and cover with carpet. It was that easy. The same when I put it back to sell. Hope it helps 🤤

    • @stephenfrench3022

      Thank you for your reply, I think it will be my weekend project.
      Why do they fit these tables into so many new motorhomes, they are a nuisance ? They should be offered as an optional extra for those people who want one and not fitted as standard equipment.

    When you're in France you might notice that the locals call it a "Showson", not a "Shasson".
