    One characteristic of a German Shepherd is their exceptional intelligence. German Shepherds consistently rank among the most intelligent dog breeds. They are quick learners, have excellent problem-solving skills, and are known for their ability to understand and follow commands. This intelligence makes them highly trainable for various roles, including police work, search and rescue, assistance, and as loyal family companions. Their sharp minds and keen senses contribute to their versatility and make them well-suited for a wide range of tasks and activities.

    We adopted our German Shepherd /Akita -she was 4 months old, died 1week before her 11yr., birthday - which was 1month after my partner died.
    Our daughter said our girly-dog had 3 favourites, her dad, whom she adored & protected through his illness, our daughter, as an equal & me as her play, groom & mum. She loved agility games & had (to some extent) a fine sense of humour, stopping to catch a gaze when she thought you’d clicked to what she had done. - and living with our dog embedded that belief in me.
    Can’t say enough good things about this breed - an all round best friend in dog form you’re ever going to find.
    Thank you for the clip, reinforcing my thoughts about German Shepherds.

    Well, my German Sheppard is very social towards other dogs, humans, children... SOCIALISATION is very important. He follows me everywhere around the house, and when we go for long walks into the forrest, he will never lose eyesight of me. Very easy. No leash is necessary. He listens very well. However, I can not say he's a real guard dog. 😂😂😂 Since he was a puppy, he's used to people coming over and has nothing but positive experiences with people, children... coming to our house. When humans come (especially the ones he knows very well), He's always happy and wants them to stay. So when my mother wants to leave and reaches for her jacket, he starts to cry like a wolf, not wanting her to go. 😂 Definitely not a guard dog. I do not mind either. Sometimes, I get awake from a noise in the middle of the night, and my German Sheppard keeps sleeping. Not a sound. No bark. Nothing... (He sleeps in my room) Sometimes I think to myself. Is he a real German Sheppard??? Obviously, he's, according to his passport. I guess my German Sheppard is just not a guard dog. However, 1 of his male dog friends was attacked by a Belgian Sheppard, and without hesitation, he attacked that dog to defend his friend. So I guess if I would go for a walk with my German Sheppard and a strange person would attack me for real, he would attack that person. That has never happened yet. Nobody is that stupid to attack/rob a person with a German Sheppard.😂

    • @fetchthisdog
      @fetchthisdog  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would disagree with you on he is not a gaurd dog because he hasn't got triggered and not felt or seen a threat towards you but I guarantee if he felt a threat you would see a guard dog but every thing else you said was on point and thank you for your comment ❤️❤️

    • @fetchthisdog
      @fetchthisdog  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    my neighbor had a gsd when I was a child. I was over there all the time to visit my friend and his dog. One day when they were not home I went overthere just to play with the dog. another neighbor, an older man who was the best person you could ever meet, thought the dog would hurt me. so he followed me to make sure I was ok cuz he was worried, so he and I went to see the dog and as I went in the gate the gsd met me and saw the elderly man and thought he was there to hurt me. she (gsd) got in between me and the man with her but towards me and started barking furiously... she was not about to let the man come in. My elderly friend went home but he was glad to see that the dog was protecting me. I miss that dog, and the elderly man. I used to go on long walks with that man and his dog which was half gsd herself. the memories of childhood.

    I have had t GSDs, all of German lines. 5 have saved me from bad people. My latest, Charlie, was trained to really like kids, men, women. He is only 2.5. He has never run into a bad person. However he comes from 10 Generations of Schutzhund champs. My husband died, and he quickly decided he should take his place in my bed. He obeys me like crazy. My husbands GSD quickly transferred her love to me. I think they love family. Heidi stayed with my husband because he was disabled. both male and female dogs can be excellent for training. The key factor is their individual temperament and willingness to learn. and finding what drives them for the reward, Some trainers prefer one gender over the other, but it truly depends on the dog's personality. for protection it also comes down to training both our male and female mix gaurd the house about the same, we took this course to train all our dogs from our westies to our late wolfhound and our gsds its a great way to start training but like ive said we have used it for years and just dont push it out like most people www.braintraining4dogs.com/get-btfd/?hop=mralley

    The GSD is intelligent enough to distinguish "right" from "wrong", but will require teaching {corrections} to know which is which. AND some of them love to say "make me". Be carefull allowing your dog to decide what to "protect" you from.

  • @annvong1579

    • @fetchthisdog

      It's very good question we alway have let our dogs pick us out of the litters maybe they love the smell of you like cookies but we have always let the dog choose us be it keeps coming back to us or I'd one licked the most but they usually senses something about a person

    • @annvong1579
      @annvong1579 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are right to that point. They sense you if you like him / her too. See, I told you the dog is much smarter than human. That is why your pup chooses you. He / she knows what he/ she wants.
