    To help Rosemary survive the winter put a few big rocks near them that can absorb heat during the day and keep the soil warmer at night, this will give it a fighting chance. As always, thank you for the wonderful content, sharing your love of gardening with us is such a gift. B

    I let me basil go to seed and let them come up next year on their own. They tend to do really well this way. And, I have basil popping up all over the garden😁😁. 🌱🌱🌱

    I wish I saw this early spring. You gave me one important fact. How,when and were to plant my basil. Mine bolted in early June. I pinched off the flowers and still harvesting.
    I really don't remember when you planted grapes. But they look so good. That's the one thing I haven't tried yet. I'm kinda intimidated by them. Thank you sharing your great videos. Have an awesome week

    Hi Siloe! I grow mint, basil and parsley in my garden. I have found over the years thatparsley and basil store better if you freeze them. Mint stores perfectly by drying it. I wash the tips of basil and leaves of parsley and put them in small plastic bags and freeze them. For the mint, I cut branches, take the leaves of, wash them and lay them in thin layer and air dry. They dry in 3-4 days.

      Yes! I wondered why the boxwood was there right before that hahah. It still seems like it takes up a fair amount of space though, could you prune it like a low standard and then plant around it? Maybe I t wouldn’t like the cold, so it’d probably need lots of friends. :)

    Beautiful crisp white suspenders! Your Glads are beautiful. Is that Society Garlic at 3:59 or chives? That's a nice cover that you're planting in to. I found my Hori Hori knife this year. I'm keeping it in my sandbox for now:-) I'm searching for my Felcos:-) Siam Basil is doing better than Purple Opal for me. Smart you started your basil early! Is that Siam growing near 8:00 under the grapevine? I agree i wipe my hands on taller shrubs too:-) I was pleasantly surprised to see parsley made it thru our freezing winter. I did not know it is a biennial:-) The lyrics to your song are nice.

    I continue to use basil all the way until it's full of seed, then pull it out, knock off the soil from the rootball, hang upside doen, dry and continue to use it dried- rub the dried flower/seed heads between your hands and let it fall into your tomato based pasta sauces, salad dressings, and other dishes. YUMM!

    Being in Australia, I have the opposite problem with my rosemary. I thought I lost it during last Summer’s heatwave where most of my plants fizzled. Gave it a rough hair cut and it bounced back lushly. I seem to spend most of my gardening time nursing plants back to health. Almost thought about packing it all in but Siloe’s videos keep seducing me back into the garden.

      Try shade cloth and shade. It really helped me in my high desert garden. Mulch also good but in full sun, I cannot give the squash enough water. i could water it all day and the summer sun here would still kill it. Shade is a must for summer here. I use 60% shade cloth over most of my garden.

    Rubbing your hands off on the boxwood bush - hahaha that's hilarious! By the way, Siloe, I haven't been seeing any commercials on your videos (aside from your own Etsy shop commercial). As annoying as those are, I know watching the commercials is supposed to help you somehow.

      I should investigate if o have an ad-blocker on, perhaps with some update it had turned on.. but I'm pretty sure I'm seeing ads on other TH-cam videos. I usually like to skip ads, but for certain channels i make sure i watch them, because i know it helps the channel.

    Yeah my Basil tends to form almost small trees before the light frost we gets wipes them out. Are you saying they will live on if I can find a way to protect them (from the light frost) ?

    • @suburbanhomestead
      @suburbanhomestead  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In tropical climates they can grow for several seasons. They are a tender perennial, so most likely in a heated green house they could live for more than one year
