I guess she missed the first day of culinary school. That was painful to watch her blame her 'old and senile' processor for not chopping the herbs while the blades were drowning in salt.
Rebecca Krebel i don’t recall where i ever originally got it from! throughout the last 15 years or so my mom took some from me and i moved so i had to get some back from her. i just got some more this year and began to recultivate it. it is the best mint imo. very strong, sweet with large lush foliage.
If you process the herbs first before adding the salt, it would blend easier. Personally, I would process the herb and salt separately: sage salt, tarragon salt, rosemary salt, bay leaf salt, etc., and keep them in separate jars. Then you could mix the herbs based upon the dish you're preparing.
Didn't know this was an option. What a wonderful idea! And thanks for not editing out the different steps like others would. It's nice to watch the whole thing!
My goodness, I just discovered you two days ago. I have to admit, yesterday I did not get much done except watching your videos. I made myself stay away this morning to get my chores done, but this evening , Here I am again. My husband watched last evening with me and we both agreed you are very relaxing to watch. Here's the man who would rather watch gun fighting movies and he chose to sit out on the porch last night with me and watch you. It does my heart good to see such a young people living the dream we/I wish I had always done. But fortunately it's never too late and I began the same journey about 10 years ago . I'm learning much from you . God bless you and your family ( Henry's wife Cindy )
Hey Shay, loved this salt and herb idea. I've already made a couple and took it a little further by making an herbal sugar! YUM! Took my mint and some sugar along with some vanilla powder. Processed as you showed and now I have the most amazing sugar for tea or baking or whatever. Oh lemons were on sale so yup, mint infused lemonade. The mint is very subtle but you know it's not your normal run of the mill drink. My family loved it! Thanks. Hi to Stu. Be well.💚
Thank you for being so fresh & enthusiastic with this. I bought a huge bag of coarse sea salt and am going to make this as you have shown. I’m sorry i missed my salt Opportunity with my huge basil harvest…it’s all dry now and the frost has come….next year for the basil salt!
❤️Zone 7!!! I've been green with envy over your flowers here my zone 3. We can't even grow zucchini outside...we have greenhouses. I'm a homeschooling homesteading mom of 4 and love watching your videos, thank you.
Thank you for this tutorial! I can grown rosemary, oregano and thyme nearly year-round here in Texas, but love having this method to preserve my cold-tender basil. Already freezing some, but the salt method will be so much better for daily use. I need to remember to do this with my cilantro too (once it's cooler here & I can grow some more).
This is an example of when 'it's only common sense, when you know how'! I really only have these herbs growing in my garden because they are my favourites. Now I'm inspired in a new direction that I know will last a life time. Thank you!! xx
I will do this!!!!! We use so many herbs in cooking and baking, this will add to our collection. Thank you so much for showing us how to do this. We do this with sugar because we drink so much tea and coffee. For example a Green tea base then we add a herb flavored sugar. Yum! My daughter makes a lemon tea then adds chamomile flavored sugar to taste. We do use raw sugar, so it has a tan color to it. GOD bless you all. Love from south Texas!
What I love about sage, rosemary and thyme is I can go outside mostly all winter and harvest in 7b, push away the snow if needed. Will try the salt! Thanks
So much butter coming in now, have you ever made batches of flavored butters? rosemary, basil, garlic... So many..use to keep 10 or 12 different butters.. freezes beautifully, and SO good... So good on steaks, potatoes, veggies EVERYTHING...
Well that was fun and easy - I was able to make it right along with you with herbs in my window box. Glad I did - there’s no way to imagine how incredible it smells!
Many others have said it, but you look absolutely beautiful in your new hair color, great decision. These salts look like a great idea, I just started growing herbs and I wasn’t sure what to do with all of them, thanks.. I wanted to share with you my exciting new thrifting find. I found 42yards of 100% natural linen upholstery fabric at the thrift store a couple days ago for $32! I knew you could appreciate a deal like that. I’m planning to upholster an antique sofa, wish me luck! I’ll have loads left over to make aprons and tablecloths, etc. now if I can find the time to come in from out in the gardens to do inside projects!
Goodness... picturing that Tuscan salt on a big bad boy of a bistecca, hello! That’s a major yes. Love the minimal editing! Feels like sitting in one of those velvety chairs while you teach me what’s what.

On that note...herb butter! Food processes some herbs and garlic and then fold and mix in well with soft butter. Freeze in a log shape and then chop into tablespoon size chunks. Grab a tablespoon worth of herb butter right from your freezer whenever you need it!
I also live in zone 7B - But not in the desert- in Ga - where the weather is HOT & HUMID .... Sweet peppers / Hot peppers grow abundantly here- They can be picked fresh and thrown in zip lock bags and frozen ! I just run them under hot water & voila ! Just as if they were fresh ! Whole years worth
I love this idea Shaye! I'm going to do that today. I live in France and here I learned to remove the heart of the garlic clove if you don't want the flavour of garlic repeating on you all day. Thanks for your fantastic videos xx
@@justbeachy4968 Hello Richelle , its the germ that you see in the centre of a garlic clove when you cut it in half. If it has started to germinate it will be somewhat green, if not it will still be white.
Ooooo, this is a great idea! I do freeze my cilantro though. My husband is Puerto Rican and the basis for all of their cooking is sofrito. Very simply put it’s onion, garlic, a pepper, and cilantro and everyone makes it a little different. Anyways, I make big batches of it and freeze it in an ice cube tray and it works like a dream. Seriously, everyone needs to try sofrito, it’s amazing on practically everything. But yes, herb salt! I will have to give it a try.
Typically I throw an onion, several cloves of garlic, a bell pepper, and an entire bunch of cilantro (stems and all) into a food processor and chop it up pretty fine because it goes nicely into the ice cube tray. And yeah, just freeze it like that. Sometimes I add olive oil, sometimes not. Yes, it does freeze very well. After they’re frozen I’ll pop out the cubes and store them in a bag or container. Other things that are common in sofrito are celery, green olives, tomato tomato paste. Great on a roast chicken or pork.. or beef, aaaand it makes great beans. Thaw a cube and put it in some yogurt for a veggie dip, I even put it in potato salad. Probably more than you wanted to know, but I hope it helps!
My Mom couldn’t sleep one night…ended up buying a food processor..with all attachments from the shopping channel 😂. Guess who’s got a new food processor 🎉 (only child) anyway, I’ve been dying to use it and this is it! Also, I love the idea of using the herbs I’ve been growing.❤
