Hi all. Today's video is a reupload. I corrected the mistakes I made in my McFarlane Super Powers video. Unfortunately, the original video went live while I was away on vacation, so I am just now able to get the corrected version uploaded. I probably killed any momentum this video had, but I didn't want to leave an inaccurate one posted. So, I hope you enjoy! Thanks to everyone who reached out to let me know of the goofs in the last version. I appreciate it.
Wow Dan, I was more than willing to give you a pass for not mentioning Jim Lee's artwork on the earlier version of this video, but you deciding to correct that omission just says a lot about your level of commitment to this,👏👍 kudos.
All the packaging artwork should be José Luis García-López The Batwing perfectly fits in with the classic Super Powers Batmobile. Same coloring scheme.
I didn't have the original Super Powers figures. But I did have the Batman TAS figures whose molds were similar to The Dark Knight Collection and Batman Returns and, which were modified reissues of the Super Powers molds. Without forgetting both Joker and Penguin from the Super Powers series and that those molds would later be used for the toys from the 90s movies. So it is worth buying the Super Powers figures related to Batman. Because Kenner figures were the beginning that allowed those 6 to 12 inch super articulated figures to exist today. And that's something Mcfarlane knew when bringing back those Kenner tribute figures.
The thing that is missing are the action features to these new figures. The action features made sense to each figure, now a days they package with lazy gimicks like spring loaded projectiles and call it the day. Kenners' engineering on these toys were next level incredible. That's what made this line standout from the marvel toy line of that era.
To me, these vintage gems where and still are the best DC super heroes action figures ever made. Everything about these figures were excellent. I never had them as a kid because I was busy collecting Gi.Joe & He Man's MOTU toylines but, I always enjoyed looking at the Super Powers every time I used to go to the toy stores to buy my action figures. I secretly wished that I could acquired the Super Powers as gifts. Too bad that I never asked for them, especially Batman & Robin, my favorites from these vintage gems. Now I own them and several others like Dr. Fate, Green Arrow, The Flash plus more. I love them & I'm looking forward to collect as many as I can. Of course I'm talking about the vintage Kenner Super Powers, not these new ones. I don't like these new SPs.
I've got a bunch of the original figures and vehicles still but not in the greatest of shape as they were heavily played with when I was a kid. Glad I've held onto them still though. Lots of good memories.
Just subbed! I recently got Batman and Superman from this set from my fiancée as a birthday gift, and wanted to do a little research on what people’s thoughts are on the set. Really enjoyed this video, and believe I will continue to collect these! Look forward to more content! Keep up the great work!
I vaguely remember these.. Lex Luthor in his green armour sticks in my memory for some reason (I think seeing his action figure in a catalogue was the first time I had heard of the character). It's a toyline where the action feature is really important, similar to MOTU, where the gimmicks really helped keep the figures fresh despite heavy reuse of parts. Seeing that old advertisement made the action features look very fun.
As a Super Powers enthusiast, I was excited when I heard these were coming out. I do not like the figures, though I *LOVE* the vehicles. For me, the opportunity with the figures is to display them on-card, and to also fill in SPC gaps. With the subsequent waves that have been announced, and especially the Invisible Jet (!), I feel like this is going in the right direction, despite there needing to be some course correction with the figures themselves.
I like the figures for the most part. I'm not a big fan of the vehicles yet, but after seeing both the Invisible Jet and the Batmobile coming out I'm excited for those as well as both Nightwing and Deathstroke figures.
DC SuperHero Girls has one for the 12-inch line and it's pretty great. It has a missile launcher, rollerblade-style wheels underneath, dual seat belt, and the best part is it snaps and expands, adding a passenger seat behind WW's chair. My kid plays the hell out of it, especially after seeing SuperPets and immediately remembering she had an invisible jet, as this seems to be the only option. Hope that helps, it's a quality toy. 👍
This video is really good! That's for showing us these new figures! When these figures first appeared in 1984, I was 10 years old and so excited to see the Superfriends in action figure form. I like this new series - though it's so odd to me that neither Wonder Woman figure has her magic lasso. I asked McFarlane Toys about it, but did not get a good response on that.
I can't really comment about the Super Powers Collection action figures back when they first came out. It was a time when I became a teenager or young adult. Now I still loved some of the older toys, I was getting into more real things. Cars and girls were my two biggest new "hobbies", plus as I later learned girls were so much fun to play with, lol. So I really want to thank you for sharing this video with us! Now my love of SCI-FI Movies, Horror movies, action figures based on both as well as other hobbies, for example Die-Cast cars, Star Wars Black Series figures, and Marvel Legends figures I've gotten back into my childhood loves! I have quite a few of the DC UNIVERSE figures. I really loved the 3.75" DC Universe figures. Especially Black Canary, Cyborg, and other Teen Titans. Also they had a few Batman Movie figures. Michael Keaton's unmasked Batman, if I remember correctly the 🐧Penguin🐧was also a release. Also the Bane and Mr.Freeze were VERY GOOD FIGURES! DC had some great action figure lines. DC Icons line was also a stellar line-up as well. I had the Superman with his robot, and the Green Lantern with his accessories. There were some other incredible figures that I haven't mentioned, but many of the DC figures were well made and were really decent! Action figures. Thanks again for sharing this. Merry Christmas and Have a Happy New Year!
My biggest problem with this line is the vehicles are 30 bucks and there's not 30 dollars of quality there 🙄 which makes no sense when the figures are 10
Building on the Super Power branding in the 80s: Superfriends rebranded to help push the line. First it was "Superfriends: The Legendary Super Powers Show", which introduced me to new DC hero Firestorm but also Darkseid, Kalibak, and Dessad as well as a design of the Parademons that matched the toy rather than the comic. (And frankly the toy/show version is more interesting.) The final season dropped Superfriends altogether and just became Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians, and for some reason redesigned the Hall Of Justice (wasn't a fan of the redesign). There were also some of the best episodes of the series. I never had the toys or the tie-in comic as a kid, but my cousin had a couple as well as the minicomics, scans of the whole series I've been reviewing on my site as part of the rotation. I miss the days toys came with those and some of them are still pretty good short stories.
The new Hall of Justice looked like the Pentagon from the overhead shots. I always assumed they relocated from the Hall in Gotham to the one in Washington or Metropolis.
I love the line. Big enough for my nephew whos only a few years old. Cheap enough too I can buy a ton. I love the hard plastic vehicles too. Lot of fun to play with the kid.
I had the toybiz rerelease with the Michael keaton batman. They sell them at GameStop as well but maybe that's only in Canada. A few years ago when the Mattel Jurasic world toys came out I would drive to all of the Walmarts and Toysrus and go "Dino hunting"
One thing about this line, in the us it sells for around 10 bucks, and this just proves that you don’t need for it to be 5 POA to sell it for cheap, if company’s like hasbro could take the knee joints, add it to a basic Star Wars line, for like, the mandalorian or something, and put it out for 10 bucks,I think kids could be enticed to buy more
What's really great with this new SP line is that it appeals to both children AND adult collectors. It's great seeing kids play with DC toys...and for 10 bucks each!!!
I'm ever so slightly too young for the og Super Powers, being born in the mid 80s. But I do really like these. My kids like them and are excited for more.
I remember the Super Powers line in the 1980s. I didn't get them at that time, but I really liked how colorful they were. The vehicles were great too, like Star Wars and GI Joe in the 1980s. They look very tempting. I'd be very happy with new characters and some new designs for older characters. I hope all the originals will see a re-release. I also hope there are more vehicles and playsets. Both new designs and the original designs too. One thing holding me back is that the scale doesn't match the scale of other action figure lines that I collect these days. I like to be able to mix and match things nowadays.
You re right Dan, these shine in the vehicles which actually feel like vintage items. The figures on the other hand seem a bit off, no action features, which means they really aren't trying to appeal to kids only collectors. Which is a shame.
I do agree with pretty much everything, it's basically the same points we made: good, affordable toys, the figures are decent, not great, but the vehicles are outstanding, and it is amazing to think out way out of its usual production techniques McFarlane went to give us vintage looking and vintage feeling vehicles. Ciao!
Maybe I'm just very easy to please, but I absolutely love this line. I am very happy with these figures. I really like them adding more modern characters. I love the idea of having characters that weren't in the original line. I hope this line lasts for a very long time.
I had the full line as a kid. I bought these new ones, except Batman who laughs, but I wish they would have just stayed classic like the retro Star Wars line. Wonder Woman, Deathstroke and Nightwing will be out soon.
Sure I said this but .deep breath. It's a let down not retro horrific capes cheap and out of scale to originals it's just a cashing on nostalgia it's not superpowers
To me, the figures don't stand up to the originals, though I appreciate the nostalgic packaging. The fact that they've made vehicles like the Batwing, though, is pretty amazing.
I started Collecting April 2nd, 1994 with Super Powers! I have now been Collecting for 30 years and 5 days ago. Unfortunately, over the years I sold many of them over the years as better Figures came along and I went to 6" Scale. I would only buy this new line if he does Legion of Super Heroes because the Scale is only good for Teenagers now. I'm all 6" now.
If they wanted to make them new for 2022, they should've made them like figures today, w/ much more realistic articulation. Even 3-3/4 figures have been made w/ more realistic articulation. Like fully articulating arms/hands & legs/feet.
I got the Batman and Superman just because I like the retro style. Now I want more! Probably gonna pick up the flash and green lantern. I hope they make a beast boy and a Batman beyond figure later down the line.
Maybe if possible maybe you can put a good word in for me on hopes for them to make Martian Manhunter in the line. I away look for another to add to my mm collection.
we didn't get the Legion of Doom characters in the 80s line except for Lex and maybe Riddler if you lived in brazil, but i want Todd to do the missing Legion of Doom characters from the cartoon Challenge of the Superfriends
I never had Super Powers as a kid so I feel no allegiance to the vintage line. That being said, I'm really enjoying this line and was very excited when I found them. I do agree with the issues with the capes. The fabric feels cheap and the hole in the middle is super annoying. I'm hearing rumors that the next wave should be hitting soon, so I look forward to finding those on the shelves.
I grabbed superman around the same time I started watching the CW's superman and lois and I found myself playing around with him the entire time I watched it, feeling like a little kid sitting in front of the tv with my action figures while watching cartoons
One thing that always puzzles me is WHY does Superman need a vehicle? He flies, he can fly into outer space, and he can fly faster than the speed of sound. So why does he need a flying vehicle? Just wondering. Also the newer Super-Mobile looks spot on to the Comic Book version you showed from the Action Comics comic book. So that's a bonus I guess, but I still can't understand why he needs it?
I was really excited for these when they were announced. My Batman and Superman Super Powers figures have stayed with me since I was a kid, even while I was moving up and down the east coast. Most of my other figures from when I was that young are LONG gone. I was ok with these not having gimick action features, but I wish they'd stuck with the 80s designs. I also am not a fan of the capes, my originals were lost long ago but the new material doesn't feel like I remember, feels cheaper and stiffer. Add to that they packaged my Batman and Superman with plastic THROUGH the capes, leaving a permanent hole. WHY MCFARLANE, WHY!?! I keep wanting to buy their stuff, but their quality control keeps making me regret it :(
Man you nailed it!! Great review and you know your stuff!! I have all my childhood superpowers still intact lol.. I also bought 18 on card between 1995-2002 when they were still cheap lol.. today my mint Shazam is over 1k.. gotta love EBay!! Again thank u for this video.. all the best!!
I snagged Superman the first time I saw him because he's my favorite, and I love the vintage appeal of these! Looking forward to picking up a few more, especially now that I know Wonder Woman is coming!
I was very excited to see these at Wal-Mart one day . I bought Batman,Superman and the Bat Plane, but after I got home and opened the boxes up I was disappointed. The packaging looks great, but the figures are disappointing to me. I like the look of the old figures and miss the power action gimmick features of the originals. I have not bought anymore since then.
I was 8 and my granny bought me the original 1984 DC Batman. It was awesome, but thinking back what strikes me the most is the memory of my granny's love....
The original artwork was all by Luiz Garcia Lopez. Who also did all the DC character and style guides at the time. I kind of mourne the loss of all the action features. While the loss of the leg squeeze punch is not that dismaying. It’s the same thing with modern MotU figures. Why did they remove the fun play elements from so many?
My only problem with this line is that it’s in desperate need of more villains. Like; how are we coming to our third Batman (fourth if you count the Batman who laughs) but no straight up Joker?
It's cool that they're expanding the character roster, but The Batman Who Laughs is a bit... random, because I definitely agree that he doesn't really stylistically match the others at all, looking more like a mainline MacFarlane toy than anything. They couldn't have picked any of the ones with a big movie out, like Black Adam or Atom Smasher or Cyclone?
I personally would have preferred if they just re-released the old figures... basically like those vintage ghostbusters figures where they are the same as the 80s figures. I like the bright vibrant colors of the 80s superpower figures.
Personally, I would have started this video on the price point first, which is pretty much it's best selling feature and not relegated it to a the end as a footnote. I think all other arguments kind of go out the window when you can buy a wave of 3 figures for 30 bucks and they're plentiful on the shelves. Regarding the figures, I agree with most things you said, Dan! The Joke who laughs seems odd, but they did have some odd choices in the original line. I think the Todd father should have gone with powered suit Lexipoo for the starting line-up and not Darkside. John Stewart? cool. Nightwing, looks great! The vehicles by the figure logic are a tad over priced. I got my Batwing for $20 and Supermobile for $30. I think the latter could have been $25. I also am glad the action features are missing. I was sick of my Brainiac's arm falling off and frankly, I think action features are kind of stupid. Secret Wars got it right, even though SP looked better. Yeah, I was there at ground zero in 1984. Remember conning my mom into buying the first wave from Kmart when they first came out. I was shocked, they were $4.99 and so was my mom at the register. We had a talk on the way home. My action figure addiction was a major point of contention with my mom. Seeing the price today is only doubled and not Qua-tripled or whatever 5x is. I personally want to see a Hall of Justice playset or something to that effect. A bad guy vehicle like the Lexmobile would be cool. And of course, despite the Toddster being anti-female figures, more female figures. Need a Batgirl, Catwoman, Big Barda, Fire & Ice, Wonder Girl, Starfire, ect. ect.
Most toy reviewers tend to bury the price at the end of their review. It's a way to keep people watching their whole video, plus they often get these toys as free samples from the manufacturer, so they may not even know what the retail price is going to be.
I love these new figures. They are fun and colorful. The card art is so nostalgic, I love it. I get the art decisions for some of the figures like Batman and Darkseid, but using that classic Jose Garcia Lopez art for Superman was essential. It's so perfect. Super Powers is the toy line I compare all toy lines to. When I was a kid they were perfect for my little hands. I didn't expect them to have action features and I'm happy they don't. After a certain age of playing with them...I stopped using the action features and enjoyed the figures themselves. I agree with you about the capes. That hole drives me crazy. I was afraid to rip Superman's cape from the moment I opened the package. Darkseid is one chonky boi (as you like to say) and feels good to pose. The more you mess with the capes, the better they rest on the back. Still, I'm not a fan of the new material. Feels like a cost-cutting measure.
The Flash is the best of the line so far , I was going to get Superman but the issue with capes are disappointing.. If the can fix that it will be a great line .
The cofounder of the TH-cam channel we started owns four of the original superpowers figures and has the two vehicles that lex Luther had, and the super mobile in the original line too.
Hey Dan! I share your opinion on the action features if I was collecting for myself, but I’m picking these up for my boys and it would have been cool for them to have the features! Action figures don’t have those gimmicks anymore, it would have been cool to have 100% gone into the nostalgia
I got Superman for now and it is cool for the vintage purpose but the material seems a bit cheap and also got that hole in the cape, may be open to get some others but not sure yet.
I do really like these toys but there are some serious quality issues. I returned 5 batwings due to the canopy breaking or already being broke before taking it out of the box. The 6th one I have NEVER let fly open under the spring power. I only open it very carefully holding the canopy until it is fully open. The holes in the capes are pretty irritating. I don't know who thought that was a good idea. Also after a bit of playing around with the toys the paint on the heads are scuffing pretty bad. Batman isn't bad but both Green Lanterns and Superman have their skin tone painted on. The head is molded in a different color plastic. My GL has a big black spot on his nose and Superman's hair curl is totally peach now. Otherwise I do really like the line. I loved my original Super Powers toys.
John Stewart should have had a lil afro. And the holes thru capes hurt. I want a chrome Cyborg and a Shazam. If no superpower, every one should have a accessory or 2.
The figures not being based on classic designs made me skip these. If they looked like their 80s counterparts I’d be all over these, but I have zero interest in newer looks. The vehicles are classic though which is confusing lol.
The new modern figures of super Powers are good but it's missing the gimmicky movements of the early eighties . That made it popular and fun. It's just way they made the eighties version ones of the super power. That beats the modern ones. I don't mind the colors though. But it's missing some very important things that would have really made it great the figures are not really hard to find too. Like the eighties version I remember that for sure. But don't get me wrong they are still fine for nostalgic reasons but I see some lost opportunities with these figures. To really make it nostalgic 💯 percent. .but still worth collecting . Just my opinion. And thanks for the review. It's truly appreciated 👍🏻
I was on the fence with these, but u sold me! Haha I like buying figures, but hate opening them! But at $10 I can just buy 2! I wish they would add a batmobile, Hackman (or girl) and maybe a Hall of Justice would be amazing, right!
Since I'm not knowledgable about the new Darkseid or Batman-Joker and was/am a fan of the original Super Powers line (and connected comics and cartoon), I'm naturally biased. But, I think it would've been nicer to use the original Darkseid mold-style, but just with tweeks to it to give it the new armor. Same with Batman-Joker; whichever one he is I think it wouldve fit in better shaped like the original figure but just adjusted to look like that original version just in new clothes. But of all I'm hoping it does make more, like John Stewart, that look like a direct continuation of the original Super Powers line. Shame these new ones are a different size, though. That'll interfere with that whole "continued" feel.
I liked your review, Dan..!! I agree with many of your points.!! I was excited for the release of this line, too.!! I was a little disappointed with the size of the figures and the capes....!! But, overall ... I like the line..!! I wished Todd would have scaled the figures more to the Original figures.!! To me, they seem too big... too tall ... or something's not right. Hope the cape situation gets better...!! And wished they would re-size the figures... but ya can't have everything ... I guess.!! Yes, the vehicles are great... and it looks like we may get a Wonder Woman Invisible Plane... and who knows what might be next.!! Oh, boy.!!
This is not a bad line the only character i don't like so far is The Batman Who Laughs and i wish they would have picked a more classic look for Wonder Women. As for the capes i just clip the little plactic thing off at one end and the hole is not so big as well. Also i find if you take some hot water and fabric softener in a small contaner to start then let is soak over night it makes the capes feel better. I also made acouple customs in this line as well.
I am curious to where it goes. Is it going to go where the original thought about going? I don't know if this line is any good or not because my roses colored nostalgia glasses commanded me to buy these and their NOT free from their plastic prison. For some reason.

I watched it again all the way through to hopefully help the algorithm along. Thank you for the hard work and honesty!
Holy cow I thought I’d lost my mind and was just in deja vu world!
I picked up the Green Lantern, but left him carded.
Careful with that Batwing canopy. It has been breaking off cause the spring is too strong for the plastic.

14:53 Prison cells?!
Cool!
They might not fit some baddies but they do seem large enough for rowdy ewoks or dino riders well...riders! 😅

Thanks for showing everything off, Pixel Dan!
It would be cool if this version of GA is the hooded era one.
@@maximusprime3459 The 1970's version of Green Arrow is the best version.
Hey Dan just to let you know you were one of my favorite TH-camrs when I was a kid thanks for caring my childhood with those ninja turtles reviews
DAN, I JUST LOVE THE OVER ALL PRESENTATION OFF THIS VIDEO :)
I don't think these figures look like the classic Super Powers. They just look like modern figures.
Honestly, I really dig these. I honestly hope they keep it going.
I really hope they make an invisible jet. It would actually be a first for any toy line to have one for figures (that I'm aware of)

Seeing the vehicles up close, they are better than I thought. I did not know the Batwing had all those glorious Sticker details.
I do agree with pretty much everything, it's basically the same points we made: good, affordable toys, the figures are decent, not great, but the vehicles are outstanding, and it is amazing to think out way out of its usual production techniques McFarlane went to give us vintage looking and vintage feeling vehicles. Ciao!
I’m really hoping McFarlane makes a regular Joker action figure, I’d also like to see Black Adam, Dr. Fate, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, and Shazam.
It's a let down not retro horrific capes cheap and out of scale to originals
it's just a cashing on nostalgia it's not superpowers
To me, the figures don't stand up to the originals, though I appreciate the nostalgic packaging. The fact that they've made vehicles like the Batwing, though, is pretty amazing.
Remember sending in proof of purchases to get Steppenwolf in the mail.
I get what you're saying about seeing The Batman Who Laughs in this toy format is jarring. I feel the same way.
I’d honestly love if they made a new Batmobile, but it was an almost 1:1 recreation of the vintage Kenner one
Hey Pixel!! Greetings from Chile! Choque de puños dude!
My Dad was Superman for Halloween and my mom was Wonder Woman.
I had a (Hot wheels scale) Supermobile when I was a kid. In fact is probably still at my mother's house.
Kevin from @PegwarmersPod also wanted less holes and more fabric feeling capes moving forward.
I actually have 3 of the Figures. I can’t wait for the other ones to come out
I wish they had the mini comics with them.
Same. However, I was thrilled to find out the original mini comics have been collected in 2 volumes.
I wanna see more Titans and Legionnaires. The line also needs more villains than Batman variants.
Seen em on clearance at Walmart for $7 now, so far I've got the Batwing, Superman and just got Batman for $7
My only problem with this line is that it’s in desperate need of more villains. Like; how are we coming to our third Batman (fourth if you count the Batman who laughs) but no straight up Joker?
The Supermobile boxing fists is more true to the comics than that battering ram style that Kenner did, but, the battering ram is kinda cool too.
I'm glad they brought back the Super Powers line. Especially when they are priced at $9.99 ☺️ I bought the Superman figure.
That is the only one I am planning on buying.
My brothers and I had all the figures from this line, in the 80s. 😅 We even convinced our little sister to ask our parents for the female figures.
I've seen them at Walmart, and I've been tempted to buy them.
My walmart had a whole mountain of GL's for $1 in the clearance aisle
I personally would have preferred if they just re-released the old figures... basically like those vintage ghostbusters figures where they are the same as the 80s figures. I like the bright vibrant colors of the 80s superpower figures.
I had the same reaction with the Laughing Batman. Looks too violent for a nostalgic toy line. 🤔😁
That's the one figure I was hesitant to buy as I've never been a fan of the character nor the storyline in the comics.
I see them a lot in Walmart now and I haven't seen ppl buying them
Those capes made me glad I left mine carded.
They're not the same but I love the nostalgic classic look of them.
The figures not being based on classic designs made me skip these. If they looked like their 80s counterparts I’d be all over these, but I have zero interest in newer looks. The vehicles are classic though which is confusing lol.
Hope they make batgirl, wonder woman and green arrow. Also we need more villains
Absolutely enthralled by this line coming back. I want SOOOOOOOO many more!
Cool video Dan. I subscribed. Your thoughts on the 50th anniversary Mego DC hero's
I was on the fence with these, but u sold me! Haha I like buying figures, but hate opening them! But at $10 I can just buy 2! I wish they would add a batmobile, Hackman (or girl) and maybe a Hall of Justice would be amazing, right!
its a good thing toypaloy has patterns for super powers capes
Waiting for new review of the others Super Powers figures 👌🏻😉
I really like the vehicles
They need to make a new version of Superman which is more on line with the vintage in terms of scale, color scheme and head/face sculpt.
Hey pixel dan. Are you still doing your advent calender countdown? I can only find day 1
Got the flash.they are good.they are fun.they are retro. They almost hit the mark.
WAIT! Just now dawning on me. How long is it before Marvel does their version.
Oh, boy.!!
Still really want to know why they thought the joker who laughs deserved to be a figure in this series lol
New characters look pretty cool but the classics should have been straight up duplicates of the original molds. Still time to do that I suppose.
Love your review ! I do get the Superpowers vibe on the Darkseid and Batman who laughs . Does Batman's head seem a bit small ?
