    That was a nice shave. Cool Merkur Progress inspired razor. Thanks, John!

      Yeah it does remind me a bit of that. Even the top cap has to be inserted a particular side like the progress. Except that this was just engineered to the highest degree 😂 . Thanks man have a good week

    I've been waiting for a review for this half a stack, firearm of a razor. Leave it Cool Blade J. Thanks as always, brother.

      Thanks Greg! It’s definitely a big razor but it’s also quite nice 👍🏼 . Have a great week

    That does look like a heavy devil. You can tell by looking at it.

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a heavy one for sure! Feels different on the face for that reason. I think that’s why I like the mild setting but we’ll see how the aggressive setting fairs

    That "solid" feeling you get is what is generally called blade rigidity, and razor makers have recently started taking it more seriously as an important design factor, with it being prioritized on up-and-coming razors like the Blackland Era. Are there some razors that you felt were particularly rigid (other than the ones you talked about)?

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I found the Blutt BR-1 to have the best blade rigidity that I’ve tried. Karve, Blackland blackbird, Muramasa, this Rocnel , smaller gap WR2s also come to mind . I found razors that might have too much positive exposure lack in this category as well or if not enough surface area towards the end of the blade is clamped. I am a little skeptical of the Era due to the new process at least for making a razor. Partly why the first batch will be small but let’s see how it turns out 👍🏼

    Hey John Happy New Year, nice Rocnel Sailor. I enjoyed mine but I sold it. Have you ever tried the Denali adjustable razor? It's a carbon copy of the Rex Ambassador but a lot more smoother and comfortable. Very hard to find but if you get a hold of one do try it you'll be blown away on its smoothness and efficiency.

      I tried so hard to find one. I contacted people I know in Italy but no success. 🥺(VLS)

      Really would love the Denali but the maker of the Denali told me it is impossible to get one. No more are being made which is sad because I am sure most of us would want one.😃. (VLS)

    Really good breakdown dude. I've always found these razors interesting. How would you compare this to the Muramasa?

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This definitely can get more aggressive than the Muramasa . The Muramasa has more milder feeling settings and might be a little better balanced IMO

    I love my razors but I have to say Rocnel & Rex razors give me my best shaves . (VLS)

    Just got back into wet shaving forgot how much less toxic this community is compared to the fragrance community that I delved into. Very nice people here

    Would you agree with a few people who have the sailor 2021 . It is a WR2 adjustable ?

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far my WR2s are way more efficient but we’ll see how the higher settings do!

  • @stingraysinmyravioli
    @stingraysinmyravioli 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have you ever tried a Hone Type 15? Now that is a heavy razor in brass. Mine is something like 164g with the shorter handle. Mild feeling but very efficient.

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never tried one but I’ve seen it. I would have considered the aluminum but it costed almost $200 and the Ti was $1200 . Just a tad overpriced lol but it looks like a nice shave for sure! Maybe one day I’ll try one of them

    • @stingraysinmyravioli
      @stingraysinmyravioli 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnshaves1996 Didn't realise the Ti was that much! Got mine for $100 second hand. There is a SS version coming soon but not much lighter than brass.

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stingraysinmyravioli how is the grip on yours? I noticed there’s no knurling on it. Wow that’s a good deal I would have picked that up too . I think mild feeling razor is nice on a heavy razor but I’m just biased towards lighter razors I suppose . I’d get it secondhand if it ever popped up maybe

    • @stingraysinmyravioli
      @stingraysinmyravioli 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnshaves1996 Actually mine is polished but brushed for grip. When new they come with a textured handle, not smooth at all. Grip shouldn't be an issue. I got over the weight quickly and don't even think about it now.
