    Nice one John. I have an Overlander on the way today from Chris. I have a new/unused Christopher Bradley 3.25 handle, my preferred length, to pair it with. Can’t wait. Thanks for your great videos. You hooked me on to Oaken, my favorite soap cooker at the moment. I think he might be coming out with an oud/patchouli soap, hints from instagram. 15 more inches of snow up here in Vermont this weekend!

    Hey John, have you tried the Dovo Primo DE razor? It shaves as well as the Overlander, and it might even be smoother and maybe a bit more efficient. It's unbelievable. I've sold mostly all of my razors because, for me, nothing beats the overlander and dovo primo.

    Looks like a great razor, looks aesthetically better with the CB handle. Ill wait around until it comes out is SS, if it does. I also want to see if the claims of the weird suction effect become more prevalent as the initial bluster and excitement dies down.

    Most notably, the handle is decorated with a pattern that is inspired by the centuries-old guilloche technique commonly used Watch Making which I appreciate Karve very much as a Horology Guy and Watch Collector..

    I find I can go against the grain with most razors because I'm a daily shaver and always go for BBS. . The hairs aren't that long really after 24 hrs. Especially the 6S even on plate 6. I'd really like a side by side with the 6S against on the 1st price. I'm betting you'll be pleasantly surprised! I'm going to grab an Overlander when the SS comes out! Great shave John! 🍻🍻🍻🍻

    • @johnshaves1996

      I’ve tried it with a few razors or even gone ATG on 2nd pass and found the shave not as comfortable but it’s a YMMV type of thing I guess. I haven’t tried it with the 6s but that is indeed a great shaver and i find no fault with how it shaves. I hope you end up liking the razor if you end up picking it up. I think if the blade gap was slightly higher it'd be a winner for me. As it stands the blade just feels like it barely touches my face. Like I'm shaving with training wheels on with no blade angle options. Blade clamping is indisputably exceptional though. Still, the Karve CB C plate is working better for me right now. Maybe when he has some other plates in the Over.

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me I don’t mind a fixed blade angle cause for me it just works I don’t have to think about it. But I can see why you would feel that way. Some prefer to have more control over the shave . We’ll see what he does with this one going forward. Thanks again for the hookup

      Ah what didn’t you like about it? Not enough blade feel? . I used the Apollo Razor. One of the best razors I’ve ever used. Very efficient and smooth. Up there with razors like the blutt and Overlander for me

      @@johnshaves1996 I tried to like the Overlander but it was just like you said..no blade feel. I need some blade feel especially if it's bronze. It was smooth and efficient. My Holy Grail razor is the Wolfman wr2 1.55 titanium. Maybe if the Overlander comes out in stainless steel I'll be interested in getting it. I'm trying to get a Blutt but they're sold out. I'll wait for them to come out with a new batch.

    Do you have any hand-tied brush you want to resell?

      Thanks so much for watching. Not in this exact moment. If that changes I could try to reach out. Black Eagles are pretty tough. Declaration and Wald has started announcing drops so I would follow them on IG to see what happened. Varlet should be reopening the waitlist at some point but not sure when. Hope that helps at least a little

    Lothur or Omnibus for best shave performance? I want the slickest stuff out there.

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Omnibus has better density, Løthur has the longer lasting post shave. Honestly it’s toss up for me in terms of slickness. Those are my top 2 bases. When properly hydrated they both have just a ton of secondary/residual slickness

    What's intriguing for me is how it would shave at a lower plate level, should he make one. The C plate is more than efficient enough for daily shaving, so if you're saying the efficiency is E level on this one, he could reduce blade feel and improve clamping by bringing it down to C level efficiency. It would be truly next level.
    EDIT: apparently, they are selling it in aluminum now!

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may have been unfair to say E level cause I’m able to go ATG . It would be better to compare it to another razor after going With and across the grain. I still definitely find it more efficient than the E though. It seems like he’s figured out to get the clamping, exposure and blade feel just right for those who prefer mild feeling razors. Those who really like blade feel in their razors may feel differently about it.

    • @gregb7601
      @gregb7601 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's very easy on the skin, despite its efficiency.
      I have super sensitive skin, and this definitely is the best efficient, yet mild feeling razor I've used.

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lowest gap I’ve used was 1.0. Both the blade feel and efficiency were actually quite comparable between the two. I found the Overlander to be a bit smoother though. Just my own experience. YMMV

    • @catchacoolbreeze
      @catchacoolbreeze 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnshaves1996 Thanks for the reply. I just got the Overlander today and its really interesting. First razor I got that compares in blade feel to the WR2. They are a bit different feeling though (to me). I can feel the blade of the WR2 but it doesn't feel like a blade (almost like the pressure of a smooth thin line that is separate from the base plate or cap). The Overlander - I don't feel any of that I just feel the unit (top cap/blade/baseplate) as one complete thing. Really interesting razor. I'm not sure if that makes sense or how to describe it.

    • @johnshaves1996
      @johnshaves1996  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@catchacoolbreeze that was actually a fantastic description, and I know exactly what you mean. Imo the Overlander has better blade clamping and it’s quite noticeable ATG. If you were to take both to your face ATG at the same time I think you’d definitely notice. Both have their pros and cons but talking out of indeed only shaving experience those are my observations.

    • @catchacoolbreeze
      @catchacoolbreeze 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnshaves1996 Glad you understood what I was trying to say! Your comments on blade clamping are interesting because the WR2 clamps the entire blade while the Overlander is at four separate points. I don't fully understand it but you would think the WR2 would be stiffer. I'll have to play around with it more. I have always loved the WR2 for its super comfortable WTG pass but ATG for me required a more precise angle or focus (I am probably in the minority on that one). Sometimes even with a new blade it could feel tuggy. Either way, after 1 day, the ATG is better for me with the Overlander. The geometry seems to present the hair and skin at a better angle for an easy cut - less tugging. Thanks for introducing me to the razor.
