    Little tip: if you left click on the already existing chain and click "mirror chain", it will automatically create new chains with the opposite side of the skeleton :)

      p.s. I found a workaround for mine crashing was to select the body (mine being m_tal_nrw_body_preview) in the the preview mesh of the maximo retargeter before exporting animations. Mine kept crashing on export. But all working great now! Thanks again

    Thank you so much for figuring out what causes that crash, that frustrated me for several hours last weekend trying to narrow down the cause. Never thought to try checking if it was a specific set of bones.

    Thanks for video.
    The best way to set MH_IKRig in T_Pose is to set "Target Actor Offset" in 0, change "Target Actor Scale" to fit the figure and arrange bones using TOP, RIGHT, FRONT etc views.
    After arranging you should set initial values of Offset and Scale.
    Also I discover another bug. When I try to retarget bunch of animations as described at 52:30 program is crushed. But when I retarget animation one by one everything is ok.

    Regarding the CRASH when trying to export the animations - try this workaround: 1. Record the Mixamo animation from within retargeter. 2. Save it as a new file. 3. Export retarget with the newly saved animation. Credit for this fix: @woyame1
    Found it in comments down bellow in a reply. Posting it as a new comment so people can find it with search without opening individual comments threads.

    I think you're overdoing the retargetting work, there's a way to map all bones automatically...

    Sadly there is no anything like mixamo. Because mixamo is outdated old poor quality shit today and looking extreme horrible ( especially in comparison with superior quality of METAHUMANS)

    This is so frustrating. Unreal and nvidia driver interface is probably the culprit, but the selected chain doesn't highlight in the IK rigs in 5.2. Any ideas why?

    Hi! Super cool tutorial,thx so much! i have just a problem,which appears to be a bug: it all work till i try to export the animations to the metahuman,when i do this,everytime the software crashes,does it happen to anyone else? I have a decent enough pc,with an i712thgen,16GB Ram and 3070 8GB,my Unreal version in 5.0.3, i don't think it's something related to the machine but anyway,i can't tell if it's the software. thx in advance to anyone who can help!

    Unreal crashes when when I tray to retarget animations, both ways not working. What can it be, everything else works great up until this point.

    Praise the Lord! First tutorial on the subject that worked! Somethings have changed in UE in the meantime, but found ways to make it work. It changes a lot, so tutorials are hard to find as current. Thanks for sharing!

    yea need to reinstal the ue 4.27 to retarget de animations with hands movement, in 5 i don't have hands movement and i need the hands movment

    One thing I have noticed that made it a little easier in the retargeter is to A) alter the Target Actor Scale to match the height scale of the mannequin (e.g. my character is a short female, so I upped her scale to 1.2). B) change the Target Actor Offset to 0.0. This will place your target directly on the manny. This way you can ensure the legs and arms are aligned correctly. Maybe even the fingers, too. When done, just reset the offset to 175 or so and your scale back to 1.0. :)

      No, you can use resulting animations on any Metahuman usually.

    I tried to follow this tutorial, but when I try to create the new retargeter and chose the rig I created, I give it a name, double click the retargeter to edit it, but the right side pane is basically empty, I cannot chose source/target anything, its just all blank, tried saving the project and restarting UE5, didn't help, any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
    edit: never mind, looking at the tab layout I see I had "Details" tab missing for some reason, Window>Details fixed the problem I had! :D

    I did it in UE5.1 😋 thanks so much. Now I can use any animation from mixamo.. the tutorial was in such a detail that anyone can follow easily.
    There are few UI changes done in UE 5.1 but all I easily find and do it myself.. and if I can do this, who is big noob in UE, than anyone can do it.. 😅

    Amazing tutorial.
    Fyi, if you have constant crashing when retargeting animations, go back into the MH rig and unlink all the metacarpals for each finger (there are two for each finger), then reset the pose for MH rig in the retargeter. And don’t pose the fingers, I repeat, DO NOT pose the fingers. Once I followed these steps, I was back on track.

    Hmm. Everything works perfectly...except that the shoulders are hunched in leaving him with a long neck. I've double, tripled, quadruple checked everything and I don't see a fault anywhere. I've meticulously gone through every chain and everything is a match. I started to mess around with where the chains end around the neck area to see if this changed anything. So here I am..lost. :(

      Try disabling the fullbody IK to see if it makes a difference.

    Hey! I watched a lot tutors and your is my last hope. So i want to ask before starting - does you method works with short type ob MH body? I have tried a lot of different methods. So I almost give up, cuz all tutors works only with Tall MH bode. Thank you!

Just one question: is there anyway to reuse the MH IK retargeting setup so that I don't have to redo all the chain creation for a different style of MH rig? in other words, can I reuse the setup of the m_med_nrw for the f_med_unw? Saving me from having to recreate all the same chains again!

      Yes in newer versions of the engine, you would just choose the preview mesh in the IKRig and IKRetargeter (target).
      You can do it without doing that but in my experience it never seems to work correctly.

    I don't understand why is there necesary so many manual steps by selecting bones. I'm curious that nobody already did plugin for that that autote it.
    I would even expected that the MetaHuman will be fully ready after import since it is directly from Unreal Team.

    thank you... but I have a weird problem.. the metahuman lost a part of the body, that surrounding the neck so now I see the full body up to the shoulders and then a hole and there the neck with the head floating !!! I have UE 5.0.1 and used a custom Metahuman. Please help ! :)

    FYI you did this incorrectly. You need to create an EXTRA chain for the neck bones. or else the lower neck on the target Metahuman will not move correctly. you need to create a new chain "neck" containing the 1 neck bone in the Mixamo IK RIG and containing the 2 neck bones on the target Metahuman IK RIG

      They completely changed the layout of the UI.
      1. Top left corner select "Target"
      2. Select "Edit Mode"

    Is there no way to just open Unreal 5 and open my meta human and start moving joints around to make animations? I HAVE to get a maximo animation to make it work? I want to animate my character to grab another as a human shield and hold them as a hostage. I feel like UE5 overcomplicates something like this with all of it's blueprint non-sense.

      You could create your own animation with Control Rig and Sequencer and bake to animation.
      Or take an existing animation, bake it to a Control Rig in sequencer, modify it and bake the animation.

    I really liked your presentation, but the result of the animation leaves a lot to be desired. In the walking animation, the legs are flying apart and the pelvis is unnaturally rotated.
    Nevertheless, I appreciate your work, and thank you. I wish there was such a normal download preset, in which everything would be set clearly.

      Agreed. I only ever present the basics because,I am not an animator, I do not have much time and I think it is important for people to take those basics and then do the work themselves.

      I have no idea because it has not happened to me in a long time.
      In the Mixamo IKRig and IKRetargeter, try reseting the pose and try export again.

    If i did this for all my Mixamo animations, and seperately for my Actorcore animations. Could i then use them on multiple Metahumans or only the one i used for translation?

    Anyone who's crashing on export, just reset the "target actor offset" and "bone draw size" settings in the retargeter.

    Absolutely amazing tutorial man! You're the first person I've found that's actually shown how to work Mixamo animations onto MetaHumans with the new IKRig/Retargeter system so shout out to you! You've more than earned my sub.
    Is there anyway to pair a facial animation with a Mixamo animation, like let's say someone is talking but with hand movements? Definitely will be staying tuned to the channel for future content.

      Thanks ! Yes you can combine body and face animations in sequencer and then create a single combined animation from there.

    Thanks for the tut! When i get to around 43:00 and attempt to pose the MH_IKRig into T-pose, I cannot move any of the bones. Clicking and moving the rotation gizmo does nothing as if all of them are frozen in place. Am i missing a setting? Thank you

      I attended an after school drama class as a child.
      Only once and I fell off the stage and landed on my organ. A nurse with one eye had to sew it back up.
      That was far more dramatic.

    finally a tutorial that actually worked. I have been struggling with doing any animations. Thanks alot! Made a custom metahuman with mesh to metahuman. and I cant believe it doesnt have atleast an ilde pose. It just sits there in a T-pose looking boring. It was alot of work to set this up.. but worth it. You said that you can use the blue print for other projects. how do yo do that?

      There is something to learn in every tutorial on TH-cam, whichever channel it is on.
      My advice, don't bother, if you find it confusing.
      Buy a plugin to do it for you, search Mixamo Animation Retargeting 2, on the Epic marketplace.
      I have never tried it but it seems to do what you want.

    fantastic overview, but this unfortunately skips the POWER of it being an IK retarget.

      At the time, people were wrapping their heads around a complete change in the retargeting system.
      The IK Retargeting system has evolved a lot since this was made, so it would have been wasted time.

    Hi Jobutsu,
    I'm now using two different metahumans on my scene.
    is it possible to apply the mixamo animations to my second MH using the same IKRetargeter? Or do I need to create a new one?

      You do not need to create multiple retargeting assets. If your metahuman is a different size, you may need to duplicate your Metahuman IKRig and reset the pose and Skeletal Mesh.

    Am I missing something that needs to be enabled? When I right click and add an IK rig, I don't get the pop-up asking me to choose a skeletal mesh. I can assign it in the rig window itself, so it's not that big of a deal, I'm just curious why the disparity 🤔
