    I never saw Wybie blowing off his hand as a sign that the magic wouldn't work in the real world. I think he was showing coraline that like everything else in the other world he is fake, an illusion. She wants him to come with her back to the real world and he's showing her that there's no need because he's not real.

    • @TheFangirlWatches
      @TheFangirlWatches  8 ปีที่แล้ว +161

      That is a very, very good point! The only thing I can't figure out then would be why Wybie looks so upset and/or afraid of the Beldam then. If he knows he's not real, and he can't feel actual emotions or sensations, like pain, then why act like it to Coraline?

    • @brunswick14w
      @brunswick14w 8 ปีที่แล้ว +100

      Maybe he can feel, only in the other world. Pain, emotions, and sensations enters the body through the mind. If the button wybie is a soul or just a made up entity, he can feel things and be punished by his creator in that other world. Only certain characters seem to exist in the other world, only if the other mother allows them to exist. Just like the other mother allows the mice to go back and forth and even her hand. Without the creators permission, he can't leave or will cease to exist in the real world. The only issue i have with my own theory, is the cat, who seems to break all of the rules.

    beldam prepared the world for the twin not for grandma so when thee twin takes grandma to the other world, grandma see's the real beldam and the truth about the other world and escapes but the twin stays because she see's the wonderful and magical world not the truth and when the twin doesn't show up anymore grandma knows why so she protects wybie because she knows about beldam

    • @stephanielagares4817
      @stephanielagares4817 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You're theory makes sense under the assumption that the Grandma actually does enter the other world. They never say weather the grandma enters the other world. They just mentioned Grandma's missing sister, and that Grandma doesn't want kids living in the Pink Palace. Coraline tried to show her Mom the portal to the other world but it was bricked up. Another assumption can be made that the twin tried to show Grandma the portal just like Coraline tried to show her mom. But when the twin sister opened the door opened the door it was bricked up, Grandma didn't believe her, than the twin goes missing and Grandma is scared, because even though she doesn't know what happened, she doesn't want kids living there because loosing her sister gave her PTSD.

      Maybe she kept the doll because the doll was her former twin and wanted to keep it so her twins soul would be safe but something happened that changed everything. Maybe the doll was a way to keep keep an eye on her so when she got a grandson who constantly kept going to the Pink Palace for some reason made grandma worried. Maybe her grandson got stuck with the Beldam and she had to find another kid to take her grandson place because the doll was connect by family being a twin and all.

    • @QueenOfPrankstersXD
      @QueenOfPrankstersXD 7 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      JustRonnie K Yes there was. If you noticed in the scene before that when Coraline escaped to the real world, the beldam was descending down the stairs which meant that she was making the doll for her parents in the room that was seen in the beginning of the movie. That's why the dolls act like spies for the beldam and when the parents woke they probably woke up in the other world where she trapped them in the snowglobe

      @weirdowithnobeirdo2.o533 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      JustRonnie K, Yeah to me it looks like the Bedlam made two dolls of the parents ( Because it's pretty hard to make one half of two dolls them sow them together.) then ripped the two dolls in half then sowed them back together. But yeah that happened in the movie.

      I think Coraline was making fun of him because he said his name was "Wyborn" shortly before that. She's definitely not a fan of his, which makes an arguable point as to why the Beldam made a copy of Wybee instead of creating copies of Coraline's friends from Michigan.

    two words: The cat.......maybe ,hear me out on this, its the cat considering that Wybie (however its spelled) kept the cat. Grandma gives the doll to the cat to deliver and uses the boy as a distraction, keeping in mind the cat does move pretty fast and has some magical value (how he disappeared behind the Pink Palace sign at the end of the movie ) it would be easy for him to make the delivery and still be able to catch up with said children by the well. Like the cat and grandma could both work for the Beldam and she could be pretending to hate cats only because she like to play "games" and deceive people. I Know I'm late and this might be already covered but just in case it might shed some sort of light on the subject of the doll getting to Coraline issue.

    the whole Wybie leaving the doll on the porch before seeing Coraline at the well most likely isn't true. when she get the doll from her mum (mom) it is the next day as she says "i could have fell down a well yesterday mom" or something similar) it implies that a whole day or so had passed. Wybie could have easily found the doll in the trunk then, wrapped it up and in the morning left it on the porch.

    The doll and the mice contain very little of the Beldam's soul sand which is why they can survive in the real world. But people like the Other Father and the Other Wybie contain a lot of it and cannot survive outside the Other World. And her hand made it because it is not a biological part of her. It is metallic.

  • @misunderstoodducklings5069

    My theory for Wybie: the buttoned eyed one was created by the other mother and when the other mother was chasing Coraline, the other mother's world was disappearing. And because that buttoned eyed Wybie was created by the other mother, he was starting to disappear too. When his hand blew away- he was proving to Coraline that he didn't have control over himself. In the comic book, it's showed that the father was created my the other mother- and that she created this world. Does that make sense?? Idk if my theory works😅

    • @TolerateDaMilk
      @TolerateDaMilk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Misunderstood Ducklings it makes sense because during the movie the dad seemed nice, and he even said while chasing coraline "so sorry, mother making me do this" and then gave her the child eye before he fell through. when he was playing piano he almost told her what mother was doing but the piano hands stopped him

Like I don’t want to believe that ever since she went through the door, she was stuck in the Beldams lair like forever.

While Coraline tries to run away and ends up walking towards where the old well should be she's talking with the cat who states that it's a small world created to what would make the child happy or what would seem appealing enough for them to stay

    Cool theories, but there are a few things that I wanted to say. Your theory says that Wybie's grandma has some kind of a deal with the Beldam. Ok, so far, so good. But I don't think what you said makes really much sense. You asked why there would be only one twin sister who got lured into the other world. My personal thought here is that one of the twins was unhappy, maybe because she didn't feel loved and her parents would prefer her sister (Grandma). Maybe it is also important to know that Wybie doesn't exist in the novel. He was invented by the producers because they didn't know how to picture Coralines thoughts without making her look like always talking to herself. So, there is actually no grandma in the story to begin with, the side infos are told by a narrator. I hope this helps understanding why I don't agree with you in this grandma point, but nevertheless, this is actually a good video and I like your theories. Have a nice day. :)

      Love the comment! I have been working my way through the Coraline book. I've already finished the graphic novel, and I did note that the doll and the Lovat family are all missing there. But, films and books often change, so the film can be taken as a separate work from the book. If not, we need to question where the creature in the corridor is in the film and why the Beldam has a spider form.
      But the fact that they took the time to animate Mrs. Lovat may be a clue at her unspoken importance. After all, animation is difficult and time consuming, so why not let Mrs. Lovat stay a voice in the distance over designing a body for her? Her appearance wasn't important to thr plot. The Beldam vanishes after her hand is vanquished, and suddenly Mrs. Lovat enters for the happy ending, moments before the cat uses a portal again. Seems off to me. Why not show Grandma in the beginning instead? Why didn't she warn Coraline about the little door? Why did she leave the key in that apartment to begin with?
      I will say in later theories I've started focusing on the cat as being more involved with the Beldam than Grandma Lovat, but I still think there is some connection since Mrs. Lovat never explained why she let Coraline move into the Pink Palace after having a strict "no kids" policy for decades.

      Kimberly SnowyOwl I agree. And the one with Wybie bringing the doll to Coraline was a bit false when The Fangirl said at the same day. Coraline said to her mom that she almost fell down the well "yesterday." Meaning that would give Wybie enough time to find the doll, rap it up in newspaper, write the note, and put on the front porch. And maybe the doll was in grandmas trunk at the time and the other mother was able to go between worlds to get it, change it, and put it back. It could be that Wybie was just poking his nose around grandmas things one day and just found it randomly. Which would mean that when grandma wanted the doll back, she might have not known that the doll changed to look like Coraline. In fact, she may not have known much (if not anything at all) about the other world, and wanted the doll back because it's the last thing that was left of her missing sister.

      Very interesting theories! :)
      Perhaps the reason why Coraline and her family were allowed to go to live in the Pink Palace is because that Mrs. Lovat's son, (Wybie's father), probably ignored his mother's "no kids" policy and decided to let them in anyways. Sure, there's no mention of Mrs. Lovat's son, but it's still interesting to think about it.
      Even the Theorizer came up with a theory maybe Mrs. Lovat was sick for a little while and her son took over temporarily and decided to have Coraline's family live in the Pink Palace apartments despite Mrs. Lovat's "no kids" policy.

    I think the Mrs. Lovatt (sp?) being in cahoots with the beldam is a bit of a stretch. anything is possible, but I think it's a pretty complicated way to explain some of these things.
    My view on the doll is: Mrs. Lovatt kept the doll after her sister's disappearance not realizing it was evil or magical (she just wanted something to remember her sister by). I don't necessarily think the doll had to return to the other world to be transformed either. I've always viewed the opening sequence as more figurative (I think it's more meant to show that there is some mysterious force "creating" the dolls, and that Coraline isn't the first, not to imply that she is actually physically sewing them). I don't think the beldam has to actually physical sew the doll into Coraline any more than she had to physically build the other house with a hammer and nails. It could easily just be done by magic. Things in the other world transform (and deconstruct) magically without any physically interaction from the beldam, like when the room transforms into a spider web. Maybe the doll is in the trunk, and the other mother transforms it magically knowing Wybie will find it and give it to coraline. The transformation, assuming it is magical and instantaneous, could happen at anytime. When Mrs. lovatt wants the doll back, I assume she doesn't even know it has been transformed. SHe probably thinks it's the doll that looks like her sister (perhaps Wybie told her he gave that old doll she had to the new girl...)

    • @TheFangirlWatches
      @TheFangirlWatches  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I could see Mrs. Lovat keeping the doll for sentimental reasons. But, why would the Beldam allow it if she needs the doll? Now, if the cat is working for the Beldam, like I sort of learn more towards in Part 4, then Mrs. Lovat might be blameless. Or she might not have known that the doll changed. But somebody had to give and take the doll. It is possible that the intro scene was metaphorical, but it's unlikely. If you're going to make a paranormal movie where we are supposed to believe that the magic and danger is real in the plot, then you can't mix in symbolic gestures or it becomes too convoluted.
      If you've seen Dawn of Justice, there's a scene in the beginning where a young Bruce Wayne is physically being lifted up by a bat vortex, and that is supposed to be a symbolic moment BUT it doesn't work with the film, because a few minutes later I'm supposed to believe that another character can really fly and use laser vision and all that. So, you either have to make these movies all symbolism or you have to commit to a fully paranormal world.
      But, even going back to the cat being the main Beldam accomplice, there are some things that don't make sense about Mrs. Lovat's actions. 1) Why does she suddenly decide to rent to a family with a child after years of refusing to do so? 2) Why did she leave the key to the Other World in that apartment? Even a little bit of cement in the key hole before they wallpapered over it would have prevented anyone else from returning to the Other World. 3) Why let Wybie constantly go up anywhere near that house? I'd lock that boy inside or move completely if I were afraid of the Other World and the Beldam. She even sends Wybie to the Pink Palace to retrieve the doll instead of calling her tenants or going by there herself, so she has to know that there is no danger for him.

    • @donhitemusic
      @donhitemusic 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The only problem with the all symbolic or all literal thing is the bedlam is shown releasing the doll into the void (or outer space)... if we are to take the scene as entirely literal, then she didn't need anyone to deliver the doll to the real world. This is further reason I think the opening sequence is symbolic...
      Plus I think since it's during the opening credits, we have more liberty to interpret it figuratively. Thanks!

    I like your theories but one thing bugs me. You pointed out how alot of the stuff we saw and that happened where Coraline could see it was an act planned by the witch. But when other Whybe (? not sure how to spell his name) started to look sad and other mom told him to smile 1) he looked sad and Coraline never saw it so what was the point of that if he's controlled by the witch and 2) Why did other mom have to instruct him to smile? Also when Coraline wasn't even looking what is the point of that?? If he's a puppet under her control and everything he did that made coraline trust his actions, was meant to help trick and trap carline what is the point of him looking sad (without being seen) and other mom telling him to smile?? She could just make him smile and not have to tell him to smile know what i mean?

    Maybe the Beldam lives in the well . I remember Wybie saying that the well was so deep you could see stars even though it's in the day. That kinda explains the opening scene, or maybe Wybie's grandma's trunk is some sort of portal to the other word since she made a deal with the beldam so she can get the doll when a kid lives in the pink palace and changes it .
    Anyway these as somethings I thought about, even though they have some gaps that aren't so clear

  • @cmNorwood
    @cmNorwood 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I know this is REALLY late.. BUT I have a theory that when Coraline first got to the house, she entered the other world by pushing that button that said "do not push"; which makes sense because that would be why Coraline's mom knew which key to use. After that, she met Wyborne, which could've been a distraction so that the Beldam could leave the doll at her door. this lines up with her meeting her neighbors for the first time, which didn't happen until after she found the doll if I'm not mistaken. And that's why Spink and Forcible read her tea leaves and told her there was danger, and Mr. B telling her that the mice said to stay away from the little door. They were trying to deter her from going back through the portal so she would be stuck in the other world forever.

    I am liking this theory so far. So glad I rewatched Coraline yesterday so my mind is fresh and ready. Never suspected Whyborn before but in the other world the people are opposite. If the Whyorn doll guy is nice and quiet then what is his flesh version? Something to consider though personally I don't suspect him. The grandmother however is another question. She has a grandson then suddenly this monster has returned and a kid happens to move into The Pink Palace? Me thinks when her grandson reached a certain age that someone came calling and when the grandmother realized he was being tempted, she made a deal. After all the cat was hanging around him and then went to Coraline alot once she visited the other place. Plus Whyborn came to believe her pretty quick towards the end. This show is indeed rich with theories and I'm excited to see your next one in party 2.

    Theory: Remember the first time Coraline opened the little door but bricks were there? Her mom said that they divided the house up for apartments. Could that be the Beldam room in the beginning of the movie? Plus, I support the idea of the well being another portal
    Edit: here’s a thought. Maybe the well IS a portal and the room in the beginning of the movie (possibly behind the bricks in the little door at the beginning of the movie) connects through a tunnel that leads to the well and one of the Beldam’s rats would take the doll and move it or if the Beldam moves it herself somehow? Maybe her needle hands come out of the portal when Coraline goes shopping and then she comes back to the doll in a different place?
    Edit 2: here’s another theory (more coming later); remember how when Coraline’s parents went shopping and she could go though the door but when her mom opens it it’s just bricks? Here’s the thing; when the parents of the child are asleep or out, the door begins to form the portal but when the parents return, the portal begins to close and return to its normal, brick state. Plus, I doubt the parents would believe a soul-eating doppelgänger with buttons for eyes lives in a tiny door meant only for children (her victims)

    One explination for how the doll got to the Beldam in the beginning is multiple portals. I think The Theriozer talked about this in his videos too and it wouldn't be too far of a stretch because we know there's more than one way to get to the other world. For example the little door in the pink palace, the well and at the end of the video we see the cat disapper into the sign. Also did anyone else notice that Wybie's grandmother looks like she could possibly be blind? Theories on that would be cool.

    Btw. When she gets home and sees the doll, earlier in that scene Coraline is found saying " I almost fell down a well YESTERDAY mom" and when was she found exploring near the well??? Yesterday, with Wybie. So, he didn't do it when she got home. He dropped it off probably in the morning or later that afternoon.

    Okay idk if you've noticed this (you probably have) but in the opening when the other mother makes the doll she sends it through a portal with stars, they say if you fall to the bottom of the well you can see stars in the middle of the day

    @The Fangirl I'm LOVING these videos! i just have one thing to point out... in the scene where Coraline's mother gives her the doll that Wybie left on the porch, Coraline was wearing completely different clothes in this scene than in the previous scene. in the previous scene, she's seen wearing a skirt and striped tights but in the next scene, she is wearing jeans. the only same thing that she is wearing is the raincoat and rain boots. i believe its a different day altogether, which would've given the poison from the poison oak to affect the skin on her hands as well as enough time for Wybie to find the doll in his grandmas trunk. as for the raincoat and boots, i believe that Coraline put those on expecting her mother to let her play in the rain. I don't think that its the same day because i doubt that Coraline would change her outfit in the same day for no reason. just a little food for thought.

    There is also another reason I have about soulsand and the underworld. I don’t know if it has to do with anything, but in the game Minecraft, the nether is the version of the underworld, in which you can only find soul sand

    I think that the doll was found the next day because I don’t I think the poison oak could have developed that quickly on her hand. I think that the next day was when the doll was dropped off and that Coraline hadn’t simply returned from the well but an entire night had passed.

    I think that the reason the Beldam only aims for children, even though it is shown that she can get parents, is mainly because children offer more nutritional value to her than an adult would. Think of it like this. The beldam needs her pray (children or adults) as food. But she can only feast on their souls until they go rotten, (which would be until the age they would die). So the reason she goes after children is because the adults would go rotten (or die) quicker than the children would. and I know you all will probably think "doesn't the beldam kill them as soon as the buttons are on?" but if we are going with the idea that Coraline never left the other world, then doesn't that just prove that maybe she doesn't need the buttons, and that all the children would just stay in the other world, and the beldam feasts on their souls slowly until they die, without them even knowing.

      Also, I think that it is likely that Mrs. Lovett's twin sister, also said no to the button eyes, went back to the 'real world' and it took her the 50 years to die, before the beldam needed more food. which would also explain why the beldam was fine for 50 years after getting Mrs. Lovett's twin sister, but then only a few days after Coraline finds the other world, when she tries to escape, it is a whole 'DON'T LEAVE! I'LL DIE WITHOUT YOU!!!!'. i can think of no other reason why the beldam would be fine for 50 years, but couldn't wait another few years.

    In the movie, one of the soul kids told Caroline that even is she found them, she wouldn't give them, and keep her, maybe that's why the grandma wanted the doll back, because she tried to get her sister back, but it didn't work, probably the grandma's twin sister, tried getting the others back, but the witch took her soul, the grandma made a deal to make dolls, to get her sister back, but it didn't work

    In the movie when the mom gives Coraline the doll the *next* day, she says that some kid had brought it for her. So obviously it would have to have been Wybie who left the doll, because Wybie is the only kid introduced. So since it's the day after Wybie and Coraline met, Wybie would have had enough time to find it since it's the day after and not the day of.

    When other wybie blew his hand away he wasn't trying to say the sand would stop working if he left the other world, he was simply showing coraline that he was coming undone and couldn't help her anymore than he already had.

    I think the mice might have gotten the doll in the first place to bring it to her and after it was filled with sand she may have been able to control the doll to walk around while keeping an eye on Coralline. Also I think Wybie might have known what the doll looked before it was changed to look like Carolline but after it changed in appearance he may not have recognized it so he thought it was no big deal to give to someone. His grandmother might have seen it before Wybie took it and she might have known why it looks different.

    I think the Other Mother uses a different type of stuffing for each child.
    Also for why Wybie didn't notice the Doll for so long , until the start of the movie it didn't look like Coraline so he probably thought it was a different doll.

    I think wybies grandma was well aware of the danger as a child and her sister was just more impressionable. Like maybe that’s why wybies grandma was not taken by the beldam because she knew that something was off where as her sister was more curious. Wybies gma probably tried to stop her sister on several occasions which is why she knows so much about it
